Tour Rules

Hi everyone. I think it's important to revisit the rules every now and then as we keep getting new players. Our tour is designed for everyone and every system. It's only for fun but like real golf, we have chosen to allow you to police yourselves. Also like real golf cheating will get you banned. If you are going to play, play by the rules. Everything else is managed by the game. Below are mostly settings.

TGC Tour Rules

Boost and other shot mods:
+/- 5%. Most ProTee/ TGC supported systems have the ability to adjust your settings. This is from having sensor mats and tweaking them. For tour play, you are allowed to adjust any setting by 5%. This means you can add 5% max boost and decrease 5% spin. Believe me, 5% isn't going to change anyone's life. A 20 yard draw would draw 19 yards with 5% adjustment.

Putting:
The standard putting setting was 2. We set it this way because we believed the GC2 would perform fairly at that setting. We recently changed it to allow you to increase the setting so the ball will only go straight. It's your choice what you use. I use 2. Move the slider all the way over and aim with the pointer only if you choose.

Gimmies:
You have to set your system to a max of 1.8 yards. This is done by setting the Gimmie Setting to "Gimmie". If you want no gimmies, knock yourself out.

Wind:
We play without wind. You must as well.

Shot Recording:
Turn it on. You'll see SR in the standings. An X means it's off. We contact those who have it off but sometimes someone that isn't on the form enters a tournament. If it's off, you won't be included in any rankings.

Rewinds:
Obviously a big one. Some systems give errors and strange things happen. Here's some examples:

Allowed:
-A ball was in the FOV of your GC2 and you rolled another couple of balls near by and it read a 2 foot put.
-Your protee said the ball you hit in the middle of your screen went 25 degrees right.
-Your GSX said the ball went 20 yards and it was flushed into the screen.
I think you get it.

Not allowed:
-Your putt lipped out but you think you hit it straight
-Your bunker shot didn't clear the lip but you think it should have
-You sliced it and it's behind a tree
-You hit a 3 wood over water and it didn't make it but you once hit a 3 wood far enough to carry
-You hit a 5 iron and it rolled over the green but you hit a 5 iron outside last week and it stopped
-You hit it in the water and the game put you all the way back where you hit it from. Too bad.

Have fun and play by the rules.

Was unaware of the wind deal, thank for posting. I've violated that one a time or two, won't do it again.

Wind is not that big of a deal. We tried running the tour with the wind for a while. It is better with it off. Rewinds are a big one. Believe me, we have looked at enough data to tell if somebody is abusing the rewind system. Sometimes with the camera systems, a ball may roll into the FOV and mess up the shot...... I once had a putt from 12 feet go 25 yards into the bush..... I assure you that I am not that bad.

Anytime you play with wind you are making your round harder. It may help on a particular shot here and there, but for every shot helps, there are 3 where it hurts. But it makes sense to play the tour with it off, as one fella might get calm conditions and the other windy.

It’d be cool if there was some sort of wind override like they did for the greens. I like the varying winds thing but it would need to be something tracked by mods and is set each week by the tournament mods.

In case anyone needs further clarification, +-5% on club settings means you can move the slider in GSX either way until it says 5 and no more. More means cheating. 5,4,3,2,1 is not cheating. If anyone feels they deserve more, they don't. There are no excuses. It's cheating.

When you take a rewind because you hit it fat, you cheated. These are all on display in recorded shots.

Just to be clear for like the 100th time. If you live in the French alps and your ball speed of 140 produces a carry of 350, you aren't allowed to adjust tgc so every drive goes 350 on every course. You're allowed 5% MAX BOOST!!!

Everyone I've spoken to about doing this says well so and so does it too to match what they see in the French alps. EVERYONE PLAYS UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS, not the French alps conditions. Trust me, I've got a lot better things to do then go through everyone's recorded shots with a calculator like I am now. On another note, I'm not sure how people with ball speeds in the 140's think they carry it 300. The GC2 and Skytrak tell the truth on ball speed and carry. Some people choose not to believe it.

FYI, look at recorded shots. If someone has a carry of 250 listed on a 500 yard hole and the second shot is 150, 1 of 3 things happened. 1. it's way down hill and I mean way. 2. it rolled 100 yards or 3. They are cheaters.

We are going to start cancelling your wins and scores and post your name on the forum.

5% max. Final warning. First time, warning, second cancelled scores, 3rd you're gone. If you want to match what you believe you hit it, feel free. Go ahead. Have fun. If you want to play on the TGC Tour you are allowed to adjust your club setting by a max of 5%. That includes all settings including spin.

Simple

In addition to the 5% maximum boost rule. A new rule of having players match their systems to sea level is being proposed. I think that the pros far outweigh the cons with this discussion. I apologise in advance for the length of this post.

This post is more for GSA and ProTee users. The rules have always been no more boost than 5%. I think all of the launch monitors are set at sea level so that makes sense and is easy to do. GSA and Protee users generally set up their system to match their local conditions. So if a player in Denver sets up his GSA sim to match his local game, this could give the player an 30-50 yard advantage off the tee compared to a player at sea level. Here is a great article about the effects of altitude on the golf ball.

https://www.titleist.com/teamtitleis...ll-performance

I am assuming that ProTee is very similar to GSA. A plethora of adjustments to have ball flight match your local conditions. With GSA, one can adjust the scale until the club of choice is travelling the correct distance. Or you can take out the tape and measure and calculate your scale…. I tried that and it didn’t seem to work out for me…. My short irons went too far and woods and driver, not far enough. So there are adjustments per club… or a scale based on LA. In my case, I applied speed decrease based on LA. The higher the LA, the more the decrease. It seemed to work okay. Distances matched what I saw IRL. However the numbers looked fudged when compared to sea level.

For GSA and protee users that don’t have access to a Trackman or GC2, they can reverse engineer their ball speed by using the Trajectory optimizer. For example. I hit a couple that rolled out to 300 during my last round at 3500 feet. My average was about 284 total distance. So let’s pretend that I don’t have a GC2 and I don’t know what my ball speed is. Trajectory optimizer can be found here. https://flightscope.com/products/trajectory-optimizer/

When well struck, I know I have been hitting about 11-14 degrees on average at the range. We can use an average of 2500 rpm or so. Since I am at 3600 feet, I will use a hard surface for my calculations. Users that are closer to sea level can use medium settings for the surface type. Say my average IRL was 284 total distance. Unless you have a volunteer to stand out there watching your ball, you will have to use total distance. Enter 13 degrees LA, 2500 spin, 3600 feet elevation, Spin axis and direction can be kept within 2 degrees of dead straight for this calculation. For your calculations, enter your average LA and your local elevation.

Now, you just keep adjusting the speed until , you have a total distance of 284 which in my case is 148 mph or so. So now that you have a close estimate of your ball speed, you can check your GSA control panel and adjust the scale until your average drive is about 148 mph. During my last trip to the range, my average ball speed was 151.... so this is pretty accurate for me right now.

Systems are to be set within 5% of sea level for tour events. In the past users could set to their own elevation. This leaves an uneven playing field. We all would like our sims to match our local distances but in fairness to the Florida players, high altitude players will have to try to be within 5% of sea level. Spin levels are to be set within 5% as well.

We may be soon adding the verbiage " Please have your settings matched to sea level with a maximum boost on any settings of 5%
In a perfect world, tour play will match the elevation of the actual course. So, players in Florida that are playing a event in Banff Canada (4000 feet) will automatically get boosted to that elevation. Players in Denver will have their speed reduced the appropriate amount. The would be a great feature for TGC2.

I never thought about the elevation factor applied towards the tour, but that makes sense if we want a level playing field. I would recommend setting a number vice percentage since it doesn't make much sense trying to figure out what 5% of 0 elevation (sea level).

Perhaps we should separate those two statements. "Please set your sim to match performance at sea level" and Maximum boost allowed is 5%.

Matching sea level should be easy to do for the camera based systems. Trajectory optimizer is a great tool to help with that.

There isnt a setting for elevation for the skytrak in TGC. You can adjust elevation on the skytrak driving app, but its unrelated to tgc.

So pretty safe to say Skytrak users are against people adding 50 yards to their drives because they believe that's how far they hit it at home.
