Was a bit frustrated by 5, with 2 birdie chances from around 15 feet in a row, one ending a bogey, then 3 putt the next as well, so suddenly +3 after 5 even though I was hitting it well. Then I put it in the water twice on 7, would have been nice to make the 12 foot putt left after the 3rd attempt landed close, but missed for a nasty quad. However, was very pleased to close it off with +1 over the final 11 holes, even if I should have parred the last for an even back nine.

I hear ya. I put two in the water on six during my second round and waster what was a par score for the day. I had to shut er down after nine to hang out with the kids but it was fun playing my home course

On another note, I noticed that the 18th is a par 4 but it is actually a par 5 in real life.

OK, home course, nice. So the big question, do you ever break 80 IRL? I thought 18 was a monster par 4, I'll take an unofficial even par back 9 then

I have never broken 80 but I am also not hitting off a perfect lie every shot. There are a lot of slopes on the real course. I think my best score is 83 but I am also half in the bag when I golf there

I have recreated a few of my local courses on TGC and I find that whatever score I shoot on the sim, if I add 10% to the score, its in line with real life scores. Do you find that accurate at all?

Well, hit 3 more in the water today, but far from a bad round, I really had a lot of my game going well today. My favourite part was picking back up after hitting it into water each time, and not allowing it to cause future bad shots, very pleased with that. First tournament for me with 2 rounds in the 70's.

I find the 10% to be pretty accurate

Well, I definitely should have warmed up before starting this tournament. Hit the water on my first 2 hits. Hit over the green twice on my pitch and chip shots. Started hole 1 with a 10.
                My courses:
                Aldeen
                Butler National

                Canyata

I feel your pain...first two shots of the tournament in the water. Had to make a 10 footer to save a 9 on the first hole.

Is there a way to tell if a water hazard is going to give you a realistic drop option or make you re-hit from the same spot? I made a bad swing on 18 (2nd shot), then got mad when it didn't give me a drop, made another bad swing into the water...finished with a solid 9 on that hole for the 1st round. I sucked on that hole, so my fault, but that decision making comes into play on a lot of course whether I try to lay up or not. Stroke plus distance is a lot worse than just a stroke. Just curious...

I don't think you can drop on this course at all, I lost 5 in the water, had to rehit all of them, even when water was beyond green.

I have not figured out TGC's thinking here either. It seems really random, but I did get a drop on my water ball in my first round, so maybe sb944 was just unlucky? Hopefully someone chimes in and gives some insight, if there is any.

I think whether or not you get a drop is up to the designer and how the course was created. I agree that this is super frustrating and impacts course management.
I also did get a drop (I don't remember on which hole) during a practice round on this course.
              Working...
