How about some par 3 courses. Make it all about the short irons and wedges. If the course is 9 hole play 4 rounds and if it’s 18 holes play the standard 2 rounds.

I haven't played in a while but I like this idea. I think for masters week we should just have a 9 hole tournament on the Augusta par 3. It doesn't have to be for points but it would be fun.

    Thanks for a great job!

    1. I really like playing the equivalent weekly PGA courses. Its fun comparing tee shots and approaches with Stenson, Bubba or Speith and see how the pro's tackle the course.
    2. If the PGA course isn't available maybe you could switch to a European Tour Course that week. http://www.europeantour.com/european...ent/index.html
    3. At the end of each season it would be fun to make the two last events play as finals where the top 30 or something is qualified.(For the fun of it the rest could enter but only the seasonal top 30 makes it to the leaderboard)

There's a course named Bailiwick Grand national that I remember playing with a friend on the SIM and we both said it was like playing a real course. I went and played it on the PC last night and it's a beautiful track. It's 6800 yards and has some water but has lots of elevation off the Tee where you can really bomb one and most importantly the greens hold shots very nicely making it very playable with real clubs.

would love to see someone else give it a play and see if I'm off base on what I think is a good course.

A few more courses that seemed to have great reviews on HB studios forum and have protee versions.

The Arizona Diamonds (Protee version ) Par 71-6500 yards soft fairways, soft greens, slowish green speed. Desert theme.

Le Golf National Par 71-6364 yards.

maybe if "rewinds" were changed to "rehit" and you could take the shot again but it would add the stroke to your score, then you could post in a request to have your score adjusted, i saw a list of users with each LM's but it didn't differentiate between actually ProTee users and GC2 users using the protee interface, what % of users have a protee and how often does it missread, if you know those numbers then you can decide if this approach is doable and it might involve less manual work than checking everyones scores for rewinds?

The GC2 connects through the same interface as the ProTee hardware so in the system they both register as ProTee.

Golf is suppose to be a game of honor and you police yourself. Taking the rewind away in my opinion is a insult to the spirit of the game. There will always be those that cheat in life - lets not change the rules because of that small number. There is enough of that in real life - for example, it is now difficult to buy cough medicine because a small set of people wanted to use it to make meth. So the govt solution was to punish all of us.

I Agree.if people would stop using the rewind button because they just didn't like the shot they hit, then there wouldn't be an issue.

For camera systems like ProTee and GSA, things can happen that warrant a rewind in a tour event. See the video. In the video, a stray ball was laying in the FOV. This caused the putt to read incorrectly. Valid rewinds are clear to see because of the odd data. This shot would have had a 20-30 mph putt from 12 feet or so. With these systems the player needs to pay attention to the FOV. Misreads are not too common though. I can sometimes go through 3 or 4 rounds without using a rewind. When we see a player hit 4 shots, all with similar data, this is not acceptable for tour play. I am not sure what we need to do to hammer this point home. Maybe repeat offenders should be banned from the tour.

Yeah, lol. I left out he pile of 100 on the left figuring there's no way those were the ones being picked up by the machine

I have clearly reduced my balls down to about 100. TP5's were on sale twice this winter. My new ball of choice. I have enough for all summer. They are very durable and spin nicely. The problem with that misread was, earlier I was checking my alignment as the carpet is not secured to the floor..... and I forgot to move my FOV back to a smaller size for putting. Usually balls laying around the screen are not an issue.

I second the idea of using the exact courses that the pros are playing on tour whenever possible. Of course, probably shorter versions of those courses as those tour players are playing some massively long tracks as of late and indoor golf can be a little tough to be striking the ball 300+ yards consistently depending on your setup.

I think a little variety of the longer tracks coupled with medium and shorter tracks have made for a good balance this tour season.

Thanks again for all you guys do to make these tours happen. Very cool stuff!

Yeah it's definitely playing indoors that makes me not hit it 300 consistently

Me too. I’m rarely under 300 outside.

Who knew all this time, that my indoor swing was what was preventing me from hitting it 300. Look out now fellas!

Funny , I just played a round at Bailiwick Grand and chose a guy named Sid as the ghost ball shot as he shot an 80 figuring it would be a good matchup. The dude was carrying the ball about 330 on the downhill holes and a bit over 300 on flat ones!! Sucks being behind someone by 40 50 yards every tee shot...

Is there anyway to choose yourself as a ghost player - assuming you played the course at least once? I thought I did this before but tried today and could not figure it out

Yeah it still works. I just played The Arizona Diamonds and had a previous round there from 62 weeks ago. Got to watch myself get an 11 on a par 4 lol. Cool to be able to see your progress over time If you're fairly new to the software and getting better at it. I beat my previous score by like 12 shots

          • #27
Rewinds.....everyone focusses on hardware but sometimes the course themselves can cause silly issues.....stuck on rocks or bunkers that when a player hits a 60 yard shot it moves 1 foot......or at the bottom of impossible bankings that a player has to just hit 3 shots to climb up them.

My suggestion would to have a zero tolerance policy unless..........the player posts in that weeks thread the reasons for the rewind, the situation, and has numbers that tie to it. I'm not saying let everyone deicide by committee if it's allowed or not but it should be fairly obvious by the explanation, the resulting score and the numbers if the player is playing fair or not. Has to be posted asap and not just after being challenged.

This allows genuine issues of any type to be accounted for in an open and honest way....for those trying to take advantage it should be obvious to everyone.

Ultimately there has to be an element of trust which we can get away from just now. Let's put a process in place to bring rewinds out of the shadows and into the light for all the good they are and all the bad they bring

This is an unplayable shot, not a justified reason for a rewind.

One of your previous rounds should be listed when you add a ghost.

The problem with dismissing these as unplayable is that the game doesn't make it obvious up front.

With regards to sand play, everything is a concession because we aren't playing out of sand. Only to find out after you've hit that the ball was in an unplayable lie and moved a foot isn't fun, and that's what this is all about having some fair fun.

Having zero tolerance is the cleanest way to manage but I wouldn't say it's the funniest or fairest way. From my experience there is the odd situation I come across that a rewind would be fair, not many, but the odd one.

Get it all out in the open in any case would be best way, rather than leaving a select few to play bad cop.

Post the rewinders on the tournament thread, soon stop the chancers.

The problem with rewinds is everyone keeps coming up with their own justification for using them. The rules are black and white. Rewinds are for hardware failure only.

I hit a drive over a lake onto a fairway and it rolled into a lateral hazard 30 yards from the green but it put me all the way back to the tee. That's not fair or fun. Clearly a mistake in the game. Should I be able to rewind those? In real golf the ball rolls into a huge divot. Take it out?

If you are proposing a rules change, that's fine and it'll get due consideration. If you are interpreting the rules to make it what you deem as fair and fun then I have to say "the rules are black and white."

Until further notice, rewinds are for hardware failure only. Be prepared to describe why you took a rewind other than "I know I hit it better than it ended up". Accept the hardware you paid for or get better hardware. Hardware failure is very evident in the shot data.

If it’s just dashes a shot doesn’t register. That is a perfect of example of why we have rewinds. It’s not reasonable for your shoe to cause you a shot. It’s also happened to me where my friend always puts a ball in the FOV after his shot then the flash goes off when I roll a ball back from the screen.

Yeah I've had the left box on the GC2 register a shot while rolling a ball back to my side to hit. I learned my lesson though on that one so I make sure to just roll it back to the side I stand on first
