  • Q School question

Whats the process with Q school? I did 3 rounds at the Magnolia course yesterday but i noticed there were 2 schools. Do i need to do both? Is Q School for qualifying or just sort of practice for new people? I would like to compete in the Sentry Tournament but wanted to make sure im eligible.

    thanks

It’s all apart of the same school. You need the 5 round to establish your tour handicap (different than your Regular TGC HDCP) thus the two different tournaments you see.

the non major is 2 rounds and the other is 3.

Its a great experience for new tour players.

At the end of the day though it’s really about getting those 5 rounds completed and your shot recording turned on.

Good luck! Playing in the events are fun!

And handicaps are refreshed every Tuesday but I'm not sure at what time on Tuesdays. If you play your two Q-school rounds at Bethpage today (Monday), your tournament handicap should be set Tuesday and then you'd be able to play the Sentry with your handicap. If you can't squeeze those two rounds in soon, you can still play the Sentry, you would just have to play it at a 0.0 handicap. Then your handicap will be set a week from tomorrow. I can see that your shot recording is on so should be good there. Welcome to the tour!!

Great thanks for the info. I should be able to get the 2 rounds in today. This thing is awesome!

Kenny Zawodny pace yourself. While folks will laugh and joke about playing 4 rounds in a day. It does take a toll on the body. I finished q school in 2 days I think, then played in that weeks tournament. The next week my shoulder, elbow, and wrist was in a lot of pain.

Yeah, this is great advice, particularly if you have a hitting mat that is grabby. Typing "elbow" into the search function and reading some of the hits will help balance the excitement of getting rolling.

Ya i was thinking about that this morning. Playing too much. I remembered i played one round before the 3 q school ones. So i think today i will just play my 5th round to get the handicap before tomorrow deadline and then take a day off and start Sentry after some rest.

I took an idea from this forum with my hitting matt and used the gel pad under my matt which has worked out great. I broke both my wrists years ago so that was a main concern but the gel pad takes so much of the force off of them when i dig too deep.
