    RULES AND GUIDELINES

    Purpose
To offer an online league format that facilitates all that we enjoy about playing the Sport of Golf. To make Tournament settings on each round that compare to PGA standards.

    Integrity
Golf is a sport of honesty, all players are expected not to treat this like a game but treat it as if you were actually participating in live Events. Please do not cheat or manipulate the Game to give yourself and advantage. We encourage play with other online players but one can play by themselves or with a ghost ball. Scores get automatically added via TGC API so no need to enter scores. Mulligans are allowed only if there is a miss read or hardware/game error. Multiple simulator platforms will be in play.

ProTee United, I'm a current skytrak owner and looking at TGC.

The schedule looks great and love that "some" pga tour courses match what the pro's play.

My question regarding the schedule is why don't you line up the courses with the ones the pro's are playing?

Are the courses the pro's playing not available on TGC? It just makes sense to me to play the same tracks as the pro's. YES/NO?

One thing you have to remember is that just because there is a course called Pebble Beach, it won't mean it is a well designed course. On top of that is it even playable as a sim.

The courses they will pick are ones that they think have already been designed for us in mind or at least are playable. A course can look fabulous but yet once you try to play on the sim you soon find it is unplayable as a sim and most of the time its the greens being the issue or way too long as playing on a xbox and such, a 320 yd drive is common.

Watch for courses with Protee in the name as they tend to be designed with the sim in mind.

With 82,000 plus courses now, wouldn't there be all the tour courses that are playable?

Yeah I've often thought that it's silly for them to tote the amount of courses that are available. I have yet to play TGC however, and correct me if I'm wrong, it would appear anyone could create a basic course and it would be submitted and likely accepted.

I like what I see from TGC however and hope serious designers are incentivized to recreate tour courses.

luv2golf, We try and get the files from the designers and then move the tee to a forward tee box that the designer has already built into the design. Sometimes this does not work. The reasons being is if the course was designed using a PS4 or xbox the file can not be sent to use for redesign. In those cases a little sweet talk is needed to get the designer to convert the course for us. Many times the designer is not a frequent user of the HB forums and there is no good way to contact them. But like SFR said there may be many courses that have the name TPC Sawgrass or Pebble beach but the course is nothing like the original one. There is a course on the schedule that is a beautiful course called Pebble Beach. Personally I have never been there but almost every hole is recognizable from the Red Chain holes we used to play. The distance of the course is 7200+ yards. That yardage will test even the best of the sim golfers on our tour. The fairways are bit narrow from what we are used to playing on. But the design of the course is so spectacular it is a must play course for our tour. Using the PC version of the game it is not even a challenge to hit the fairways and drive the ball 280-320 yards. So those yardages are nothing for those guys. But when we try and play them a 550 yard par 5 becomes an automatic bogey if the fairways are narrow. So finding courses that fit all the parameters that make up a good sim course is sometimes not an easy task. We tried to find courses that match the schedule but there are several that are just not there and some are just not playable. And if we stick to the schedule we miss out on playing some of the great courses that are late summer courses.

There are still a few spots left open on our schedule. Buy the PC version and play some courses. With 80k courses it is impossible for us to find all those gems. You will soon find out that it's not an easy task. I played Sawgrass courses for 2 days and never found a good one. Courses like that with highly recognizable holes late in the round take time to find. You have to play 16 holes only to find that hole 17 is nothing like what you see on TV. I am not sure why they would name a course after a famous course when it is not even close. But it happens. A list of courses in some kind of searchable format would be great but something like that would require constant updates to keep uptodate. I don't know anyone who could keep it up to date.

We tried to pick courses that are in the 68-6900 yard range. Some of the courses listed might be changed. the course will remain but the name of the course (spelling )may change. Some of those names are hard to single out. Pebble beach, and Pebble Beach get you 2 entirely different courses. We had to play them all to find the exact one we wanted. But yes there maybe a couple long ones in there. We had no choice.

Hoosierdaddy, I really appreciate your zest and dedication to TGC. I'm not going to spend money to try a PC version of something. First off, I don't have the time to play video games, I play golf and that's what I love to do. I find it to bad that there isn't better moderation of the types of course (sim compatible) vs. pc version. To me that's a flaw in the system design at creation. To tout 82,000 courses (but how many are sim compatible) seems a bit far fetched. I think the product looks great and I am very excited to try it out (I hope there will be a demo period). The fact that there is a tour is great too. Playing last year on the opti tour was lots of fun but I wanted more realistic (hence buying a skytrak) and I like playing the same tracks the pro's do (which we matched up as much as possible).

I don't want to drift off topic here, so I do appreciate SFR for addressing the question. At the end of the day, I just feel that it would be nice to see the TGC Tour match it's courses with the PGA Pro Tour. Just my 2 cents. Cheers, can't wait to try TGC.

First off you have to remember that there are 2 versions of TGC. Courses built for PC play can sometimes be used for Sim play. And Protee mirrors the PC side so we have those courses available for us to play (if we choose). Courses built on the Sim version never even appear on the PC version. So there is your separation on state so to speak.

I don't get your comment about the schedule? We tried to match it up as close as we could. The truth of the matter is there are courses that are to good not to play and we tossed those in here and there. And there are courses that are played late in the summer when our tour is over that we thought should be included. But what we did not want to happen was to end up playing a 7500 yard course just because it is named the same as what the pro's are playing. So like you did with your opti tour we did with this tour. We matched up the weeks we could and when we couldn't we put in a big gun. There is nothing happening over the month of December so we threw in the Ryder cup for those weeks.

Are we going to play with handicaps. I do hope so then it will be fair to all involved and give everyone a chance to win.

tell me about it- I looked at about 5 of the 24 sawgrasses tonight and they all were very bad- and some others that it looked like the designer just used the instant course maker and threw it online..
no tweaks no smoothing.. that is what you get when anyone can add courses ot the list- I think they knew this going in- so the rating system will help weed out these weeds.
I made a few courses for tiger woods pc golf and know it takes a lot of time and tweaking to get it right. I am happy to have an alternative software for courses to play -especially with updated graphics,, now --- to find some courses that aren't over 7000 yards... and have par 5s at 600+ and par 3s at 250... sheesh... I don't have the distance off the tee anymore.

Anyway- ;looking forward to this - It's a great addition for those winter time blues.

The 82000 mentioned are all sim compatible. Lots are not very good but all are compatible or they wouldn't be listed on the Protee server.

You can play any course you want.... Any course that is listed will work on the sim side.... Just load it and play. But what we are saying is some are not sim friendly. check out the post above by Tharn. 250 yard par 3 holes 650 yard par 5's that's what we mean by sim friendly. But you are more than welcome to load any course you want... I played one called Morningwood (I knew it was a joke just by the name) the first hole was spectacular. you look out off the tee box and all you can see are... Well you can guess by the name... Tee off on the first hole 250 yards to the middle of the fairway down hill 250 ft. then second shot is back uphill 250 ft to the green. 60 yards away. 8 shots later I am on the green. I got one shot left before the game moves me to the next hole. There are several courses like this in the 82000. You will also find some home made courses that will blow your socks off. When you find one of those I hope you post it someplace. Then just mark it as a favorite and soon you won't have to look through all the courses you can just go to your favorites. this is just another reason to have the PC version. You can skim through courses at light speed.

ProTee United Just a suggestion... Take a look at using TGCTours.com to manage the golf tour. They have a fantastic system and site going on, and it would not only make the entire tour more submersive and realistic, but it would give it a ton of structure and provide a very large audencience of golf nuts to hear about ProTee's TGC offering. It would be one heck of an combination!
