    RULES AND GUIDELINES

    Purpose
To offer an online league format that facilitates all that we enjoy about playing the Sport of Golf. To make Tournament settings on each round that compare to PGA standards.

    Integrity
Golf is a sport of honesty, all players are expected not to treat this like a game but treat it as if you were actually participating in live Events. Please do not cheat or manipulate the Game to give yourself and advantage. We encourage play with other online players but one can play by themselves or with a ghost ball. Scores get automatically added via TGC API so no need to enter scores. Mulligans are allowed only if there is a miss read or hardware/game error. Multiple simulator platforms will be in play.

You would. Lol. Call it the KS Open. I'm in.

      • Which Pebble beach is it? I can't find ProTee-Pebble Beach 2015. I find Pebble Beach 2015, 6978yards and Protee Pebble beach, 6237 yards.

          • I think the one we are going to play is Pebble Beach Golf Links (ProTee). It is the same course that mthunt linked just a little shorter.

            • When are we going to get a gross scoreboard?

              Comment

              • Our Tour HCP, can be a rough proxy for a gross score ranking. If the USGA HCP formula were to be adopted someday then the Tour HCP can be a pretty good proxy for a gross ranking.

                • A gross scoreboard has nothing to do with handicap in any way. It is very simple low score wins. It would be nice if this is tracked as the tour hopefully expands in the future.

Yes I agree. Even if points are only awarded for net, let the best golfer actually at least be pointed out.

                • Over the long term, any gross scoreboard would be very highly correlated with HCP ranking. From recent tournaments, a -2 HCP player is in general a better golfer than a 9 HCP player, so on so forth. Is that the sort of ranking we are looking for?

On the other hand, it is fuzzy to me how attendance might get factored in. Do we call a 9 HCP player who became higher ranked on the gross scoreboard (due to more attendance) than a -2 HCP player, the "better" player of the two? I don't know! We may need to vote on that. I am not trying to speak against a gross scoreboard. But perhaps, we need to first let the administrators know what kind of gross scoreboard do we have in mind, no? In the meantime, one might look at the HCP standing to check out the general playing ability of folks.

In comparison, I would rather ask for a more robust HCP rule, perhaps in future tours, that is closer to the one used by USGA in which a good round affect the HCP more than a bad round. This is the best way our simulator Tour HCP can become more uniformly correlated to our real life HCP, and the latter is the one that really matters IMHO.

I guess I'm confused. A gross scoreboard is literally no handicap applied actual strokes taken score. The "better" player would be the player that finished the tournament with the least amount of strokes taken, period.

The problem with USGA vs sim handicap, is that with the USGA system, the course needs to be "rated". So that a 72 on an easy course is not weighed the same as a 72 on a hard course. Not all the courses we play have "ratings". This would need to be sorted out before a better handicap system is employed. Otherwise we have to assume all courses are equal difficulty.

I meant to say that if one chose to, one can use the HCP as a proxy in indicating the would be/could be ranking of a gross scoreboard in its absence. For the HCP rules, perhaps adopting the best 10 of past 20 would be a feasible start. Just my 2 cents.

                • Have a look at myonlinegolftour.com and see if what you would like to see is not already there. We can change or add things and also change the HCP rules. Just let us know what you want/need.

The points are different than the leaderboard on the main page. One shows the leader with 546 and the other shows 498.

                      • All I am looking for is that each tournament has a Net and a Gross Scoreboard. The year long or tour season leaderboard should be the same a net leaderboard and a gross leaderboard. As you can see the flaw in the system when you look at the leaderboard for the AT&T. Many of the best performances are shown at the bottom. Handicap is always flawed no matter how it is adjusted. It is the nature of handicap. Low handicap players are always penalized when handicap is used. It would be nice for the better players to have a leaderboard they can use without handicap getting in the way.

                          Agreed.

Although if we are using a USGA type handicapping system, where your index represents your potential to score rather than your average score, the lower handicaps have a better chance since they shouldn't be playing too far from their handicap vs high capper who's score might have much more variety of strokes over par.

Ie 10 best of 20 rounds...etc. Not average score of your 20 last rounds.

The Xmas event was not part of the tour. Will it count toward the tour?
