  • Winter Match Play Challenge 1/29 - 3/2

18 holes double elimination/consolation match play tournament. Month long but no real deadline. Will run concurrent with other tournaments.
It will be seeded by the current points standings. Starts after the Abu Dhabi Championship. 6 different courses will be used, one for each stage.

    Here's how it will work:

You will set up the game as stroke play, because the game does not figure in our hdcp's.
Enter your scores in mleaderboard as usual.
We are playing all 18 holes. Stroke play, one on one match.
If there's a tie after 18, then use the scorecard to figure out the winner. Start with hdcp #1 hole.

Or if you and your opponent choose to play your match as match play, subtract your hdcps. Then give the strokes to the higher hdcp guy, starting with #1 INDX hole. i.e. a 10 is playing a 5. 10-5=5

The 10 hdcp will get 5 strokes starting with #1 INDX hole. On the scorecard, the winner of the hole will enter a 1 for that hole. The loser of the hole do

It appears this event may take longer than a month to complete. Its been running for a week and only 3 of the 8 1st round matches are complete. We still have more than 20 matches to go before its decided. That means there can't be many days go by without a match being completed or it will run long.

Just saw this. Booooo! That's not match play. We can still play stroke in the game but with match play rules. ie win lose or tie the hole. All that needs to be reported is who won/loss. handicap is used on the hole based on ranking for a "pop" based on handicap. wish I saw this sooner.....

This is what happens when people don't speak up. I decided on that 9 days ago.

I think so far the matches that have been played would have still turned out with the same winner even if they played match play rules with the HC and ranked holes. I checked that out using their scores and the hole rankings along with the HC.

If that's the case then I'd rather go by match play rules. One of the benefits of match play is a blow up hole won't ruin your chances. With stroke play one hole can take you out.

As long as those matched already played would not have changed with the outcome then I would be ok with playing as actual match play.

If that would create issues I am ok to continue with things as is.

You would just have to determine the stroke holes if any ahead of time and figure how to enter scores. Could just have how many up a person is on the score as long as it does not matter what you enter for a score.

I'm confused. What are you guys saying? The way that I thought is if you select match play in the game it will not take in effect the handicaps. If we do it like the rules already picked which was play 18 and the handicaps effect the strokes for the final outcome.

So you guys want to play a strict matchplay winner of each hole regardless what your handicap is??

No, it works like this. Say you have a handicap of 5 and you are playing a guy with a handicap of 1. On the 1 handicap hole you would play straight up. On the 2 handicap hole the 5 handicap guy gets a "pop". Say the 5 handicap get a 5 on the hole and the 1 handicap gets a 4. This would be a tie or halved hole. The 5 handicap player would get the same pop on the 3, 4 and 5 hole handicap holes as well. Every other hole is played straight up. If you are a 20 handicap you would get 2 pops on handicap holes 1 and 2.

                          Make sense?

In the beginning I thought that we were playing match play rules. But then the stroke play notice came out and I pretty much forgot about the match play rules. But none of the matches would have come out any differently using either set of rules so now is the time to decide. I vote for match play rules. But we finish out the 18 just in case there is some confusion.

Bubs I think what we are trying to do is if you have 23 HDCP and I have 3 then I have to give you 2 strokes on the index holes 1 and 2 and then 1 stroke on the rest of the holes. Does that make sense? Sometimes that can hurt you if your don't have enough points to make it to the end. If that number 2 index hole is in the last 3 and your down 4 well then your not going to get the full 20 strokes. And you miss out on the 2 stroke advantage hole.

I am ok with whatever is decided.

As far as my match with Rick for round 2. I got to give it to you. Really nice round. We were neck and neck up until hole 15. Then the water bit me hard. Nobody to blame but myself. I pulled a bubba watson and let my nerves get the best of me. Quail Hollow is a tough course, very narrow fairways with a lot of water. Tricky too on Hole 15 I got a water penalty without going in the water. It was weird but maybe there was a red stake I did not see. Oh well Rick deserves all the credit he beat me fair and square.

Great round bubs. I played pretty much my best and you were great up until 15. Was lots of fun. We should have someone look at that. I'm new to this game so I'm not sure if its normal but his ball did go about 2 feet from a water hazard and the game played it as though he was in it. Is this normal? As for the course, its really hard and long. Good round bubs.
