How the hell did JH shoot +1? That's crazy on this course. You need to shape the ball around trees from the middle of every fairway. I think I hit trees on every other hole from the middle of the fairway hitting right at the pin.

LOL, trees? What trees? If you pretend they aren't there this course is easy. I don't know how but I managed to avoid the majority of them but jeesh, they were everywhere! I started to think the sky was green!

Are you seeing the standings any place other than in the game? Just curious if there is a place to check other than there.

Ha, I have to admit that I was not a fan of this course. Definitely didn't seem fair for a simulator crew. Even when I was able to hit a fairway the trees seemed to be blocking every path to green. Hopefully nobody played my ghost ball as I wouldn't know how to explain some of my shots.

I played this course in 1999. I don't remember the trees like that. I do remember some big elevation changes. I find TGC quite generous when hitting uphill. A few of those par 5's are not reachable for me IRL but on TGC I can sometimes hit them in 2. I don't think that TGC takes enough off when you are hitting uphill 45 feet. Also hole number 4 is missing some lava. I had great practice rounds 70,72,74 and then the wheels fell off during the tourney. 81,79. I also had this course on the computer game links 1999. I played it many times before going to Maui. If in Maui, it is a must play. Hole number 5 is awesome.

It's funny but I tought the game took too much off on uphill shots and added too much on down hill.

As for course selection, I think a lot of the courses for the tournaments were picked without anyone playing them. This one was unreal. The sound of perfect shots hitting tree branches are stuck in my mind. LOL

I've seen they as well on the uphill shots. I had a 150 yard shot that was around 15 feet uphill one time and I couldn't get a flush 5 iron to get there (I turned on auto rewind to keep trying). I hit my 5 iron 170-175 yards.

As a rule I have read that on average if you have 10 yds up hill you will need 10 more yards to carry and similar down hill with then 10 less. So if this holds true than 15 feet should only make 5 yards difference.

Also LA plays a big part as a Driver will have more difference in carry compared to a PW which is almost coming straight down anyway.

So I would think that rule may be more for clubs from Driver to long irons and then drop a bit each time as you get down toward wedges.

Looking at the LPGA stats, the landing angle for their driver is 36 degrees, 5 iron = 45 degrees, and PW=48 degrees.

If I drew my triangles correctly and remembered my grade 10 trigonometry, then for every 1 yard elevation change the distance change would be tan (90-landing angle). So that is 1.4 yards for the driver, 1 yard for the 5 iron, and 0.9 yards for the PW.

I was ok after 9 at +7. Then I got the shanks. At least 6 over the next 9. Ended up at +23 for round 1. I have not had the shanks this bad in a long time. Must be the pressure of playing in a tournament.

Yes, the trees are incredible. All you have to do is hit a leaf and you drop dead. I have never seen a course with the trees covering the fairways as much as this.

I will do better in round 2.

I think those are pretty close numbers. I was watching the tournament at the Plantation, which is different from the one played here, but they show the odd time the down hill amount and difference in yardage. Here were two that I wrote down.

224 to the hole 67 feet down hill (22.3 yds) played like 196. So about 1.145 times per actual yards hit.
190 to the hole 57 feet down hill (19 yds) played like 168. So about 1.13 times per actual yard hit.

Have yet to see an up hill comparison which would be interesting or one with Driver distance.

Maybe I was incorrect in saying that TGC didn't take enough off uphill shots. I have been hitting my 3 wood quite well lately. I have been keeping my swing stats and have found that many of my 3 woods off the fairway are very close to my driver stats.

That course was way to tight for days you can't hit much straight. Rough killed me. Had fun and looking forward to the next event. Thanks for all the "ghosts" to play with!

Keep in mind that you're hitting off of a level lie. Irl, when you're hitting uphill, you usually also have an uphill lie.
