Just wondering, as I'm aware this tour and game play will only get better over the years.
Royal Troon is new. It didn't exist when the courses were picked and no one noticed the new version

The 2016 version looks to be pretty accurate. Next year for sure.

Next year won't be Troon Keith. LOL.

Finally had a decent round in round 3. Shot 2 over and put my drive in the water trying to go for the green on #10.

I play a course in Madden, Alberta, Ca It's a short course with 3 par 4's that are somewhat driveable. The first one, you have to drive down a narrow alley and you must be able to move the ball left to right about 40 yards to have a chance with this one. The second one is an elevated tee at about 270 yards. Water in front and the back right protect a small turtleback green..... Oh and around that green is 10 inch high rough. This hole is nasty even if you lay up. The third one is about 275 yards with a blind shot to the green. Water in front and trees behind protect this green. You have to carry about 235 yards of bush and then carry another 20 yards over the water to hit this rather large green.. I did it my first time playing that hole but after rounding the corner and seeing the obstacles, I never tried again. All 3 holes are less than 300 yards but are well designed to discourage long ball hitters from going for it.

What I don't like about 10 is that if you hit it in the water, you have to go back to the tee (at least I had to.) That makes zero sense to me.

Agreed. I should be able to drop it around that creek.

I like the course. The distance is better for me - finally was able to get some par's and bogies. However, first nine went in the water on almost every hole so still shot a large number, but starting to feel more comfortable on the sim. Fun stuff no matter what.

I have to say that I really like this length course too. I can't bring myself to hit a driver inside, so the longest club I play is a 2 hybrid which only goes 240 or so. It is nice to hit some short iron approach shots finally and not have to scramble on every hole. My first two rounds have been really solid. I have been reading David leadbetter's A Swing which has given me some swing thoughts that are working at the moment. Hopefully I can hold it together for one more round tomorrow.

Just looked at the scoreboard, great rounds! Especially without having a driver available. I think its safe to say that you got this major locked up. Lapped the field and then some this week haha. Might have to check out this A swing myself, heard good things about it.

Thanks! I definitely got a benefit from joining the tour a couple months ago when all of the courses were long which artificially increased my handicap. But I will also say that I have hit the ball much better this week than in the past. All of my misses on approaches were within 10-15 yards from the pin, and those are a lot easier to get up and down than the 30-40 yard ones that I was seeing on the longer courses.

I saw someone else post about the A swing. I had never heard of it, but it sort of encourages my natural "faults" which are keeping my hands low and getting across the line on my backswing. It teaches a somewhat unique grip, where you have a strong left hand and weak right hand. When you combine this grip and backswing, you can just start the downswing by shifting your weight to your left heel and it drops the club nicely into the slot for a baby draw. I'm still working on it but it has eliminated the duck hook and my misses are now a push draw that only ends up 20 yards right instead of deep in the trees.

In watching "Live at the Open" on the Golf Channel they had a segment about how the shorter length of the course being played will provide the players to potentially have many eagle opportunities on the front nine. Even though we aren't playing the same course, the distance of what we are playing seems to share this similar theme of the real tournament. I like this course choice for this event because of that.

Played my first round today. Didn't play terrible, but there is always a few holes I mess up on.

        Need to find more consistency!

Played my second round last night. Had two holes that killed me, hole one and the second par 3 which I took a 7 on, ugh.

Quick question for those who record their rounds. What program are you using and what settings?

I forget the program I'm using, but it can also live stream (witch I don't use). When I'm recording I'm seeing a lot of lag, and I have messed with the FPS, but can't seem to fix it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated as I had to stop my recording half way through my round because of the lag.

Most people report that shadowplay works the best. Unfortunately i have to use a laptop and shadowplay doesn't work on laptops with TGC. I'm using Open broadcaster to record and depending on the course my FPS drop quiet a bit too.

Thanks Sascha, that's the program I use as well. I had a tough time of it last night on The Belfry. I'm going to try it again tonight and see how it goes using lower fps for the "selfie" box

all the 3 rounds the greens on 17 and 18 got me. My approach shot was always short of the ridge and would roll all the way down the green - hello 3 putts.

OK guys, I have to post this. Last night after playing two practice rounds on the wrong course and one really bad tournament round I desighted to play another practice round. Long story short in my practice round I discovered something I didn't know was possible. I'm sure most of you know about it and it was probably covered somewhere on here as well....I didn't lol. This is for all the people who don't and might find it as awesome as I do. In the video below at about 14:50 I hit a ball in the water. I wanted to rehit since it was a practice round so I hit esc, one down and enter. Problem is I forgot to hit enter before to drop the ball first. Long story short instead of rewind I enabled turn order. Didn't think much of it but watch about two minutes later . I think it's awesome. Way more like real life. I always play with ghost balls but from now on I will play with ghost players. Meaning turn order on. Maybe only two instead of 3 but I love it. You see there shot shape, break in puts..... A lot more like real life. Don't watch me too much in the video, I was beat. 4th round in a row lol. I just had to post it lol. https://youtu.be/gBy76_Sw9h8

Yea im using shadowplay. I tried OBS when I first started and was getting the big lag as well. Switching to shadowplay and just adding more light to room so the camera doesn't have to try as hard help wonders for the lag I was seeing. I will say that I have since not used as much light just because it was washing out the screen for me a bit while playing, but shadowplay has still taken care of most of the lag by itself

Nice round, cool seeing the different camera perspective then the usual behind. Im sure its just the camera angle and the wide view but it makes your driver look like 55 inches long haha. Also just a suggestion, I know you probably did it to get the mini map in the video, but I actually like the video in the bottom left, I think its more fun and interesting seeing the distances people are hitting their shots in the bottom right more than just the mini map. But either way, its fun having another video guy on the forums and ill be peaking in on them for sure!

That's a good point. I'll do that next time. The box with me in it doesn't show up on my screen during play, so it won't block the mini map.

Well I had an awesome round going in the first round until the first water hole and I think I put four in the drink. Just sad really. It was downhill from there. I played the second round right after and hit the ball a lot better, but couldn't score to save my life. The chipping is still giving me fits. I think I went 88/84, which for sim play is not very good for me. Very disappointed in myself so far, especially since I was able to keep my driver pretty respectable in both rounds. Didn't strike the ball very well for the most part in the IRL tournament I played today, so I'm ready to get out of this little funk. Have to wait until tomorrow though :-). Movie night with my kiddos.

Thanks ProTee. I did come across the full rankings on this forums home page. I almost never go there any more, as I come straight to today's posts. If anyone is looking for for their spot on the full season leaderboard, it's on the forum page on the right toward the bottom... After the current tournament rankings. I can see I'm a bottom feeder! 😒 One of these days I'll get better at this game... Just not today. 😂
