  • Tournament Play Course Management

I am curious what everyone is doing for course management during tornament play.

Do you make notes on best positions, ball placement, club selection, pin placement and green contour during your ptactics rounds?

Or do you make mental notes?

I'm going to try making notes in the next season. I did it once over the summer and it worked well. It just takes a little more commitment during practice rounds. I'll then save them for future use in case the same course comes up again.

    So, what do you do?

At this point I'm still not a consistent enough shot maker to keep many notes other than maybe if a hole has a surprise water spot/out of bounds spot. Couple of mental notes of if not to come up short or go long on certain greens. Other than that it's just play and try to put quality shots together in a row :-).

I hear ya. With my drives, I'm happy if they are within 10 or 20 yards of the fairway.

My notes would be more of the layup veriety, water and more on approach shots. I like to note if I need to be left, right back or short of the pin so I'm not leaving myself roller coaster putts.

It'll be nice to have the notes, even if my execution of the shot won't end up where I want it 90% of the time haha.

Perhaps in the winter. Now I play 4 times a real of real golf so really not time for practice rounds in the tours.

It would probably help me just to slow down some. I'm starting to get to the point of playing too quickly. I finished one tournament round in under an hour last week I think it was.

need to make notes but i don't. too lazy.

that said, with pebble coming up @ 7000+ yards, I've made a couple...

            - Try to reach the fairway
            - Don't break 3 iron till last hole

No notes no practice rounds and no practice swings all my rounds are under an hour. Tend to play better that way.

No notes here but I make a mental note of which club to use on par 3's. I will hit autorewind on the par 3's during a practice round. I usually hit about 10-15 to each green. If the green has a crazy slope, I may make a mental note of landing left, right or short. Autorewind is great for making the club selection for par 3's. Sometimes I may use AR on the drives...... if there is a benefit to cutting the corner.

Definitely agree on this. Practice rounds for me are all about getting the right clubs for the par 3s. A lot of times I'll just concede the holes to get to them
