gas anybody put up protection for the errant sky ball?

  • #46
Repeating my post from the facebook post for those that are not members and are interested in another DIY variant.

I decided to DIY an enclosure, building off what others have done. I selected 1/4 inch thick polycarbonate (Lexan), which is considerably more impact resistant than plexiglass.

It was pretty straightforward, a few straight line cuts with a jigsaw and 2 (1 3/4 inch) hole cutouts with a hole saw. The slide-in flexible hinges were key to the angled alignment, and very simple to join the pieces (after applying a bit of soap ease the slide-in). The slotted L brackets are critical to get the angles right when mounting around the VX.

As far as I can tell everything with the VX is working perfectly to include the video (see below photo of the club video). Admittedly, the holes I drilled for the cameras were a little off center due to my measurement sloppiness, but I'm guessing they are close enough for an uninterrupted line of sight for the cameras. I think there's plenty of ventilation on the open sides and the cable slot in the back.

It took about 90 minutes, materials were around $100 on Amazon, Provides considerable peace of mind (note the single ball mark on the ceiling right near the VX in one of the photos - oboy).

Well done! This is the best one I've seen so far. I may have to copy this one. Does anyone know the exact distance the holes should be drilled at for the camera cutouts?

I'm currently using a couple of acrylic circle cutouts inside a 3D printed frame which is then strapped around the unit to hold it in place. But would have better peace of mind with something like this to protect the whole unit and not just the lenses.
