Someone made their own with no cutouts and it reduced the camera quality. He cut a hole for the cameras and it was perfect. Note he used a spade bit so it looked uneven but 1-1/2 hole saw would be perfect and still not allow a ball to pass but much better than the entire ir and camera open if you picked the cutout version.Originally posted by BJPJJS View PostI went with no cutouts. At this point I don't think anyone knows if the cover has an impact or not.

I reached out to the mfg of the carbonate cover but no response yet. I am baffled that the original design had those huge cutouts that were begging for a errant golf ball! It appears they may be offering an insert that has a smaller hole. All of this is great but since there is no return policy they are asking us to be beta testers at our expense. I wish they would simply offer some warranty until the product stabilizes, Meanwhile, I did get a my Homeowners policy to schedule a zero deductible full replacement coverage for about 12 per year. I may have to go with that until the cover is proven.

First protee asked for it that way but you can get it without the holes. Issue with that is it will make the camera less clear and you would want to cut the holes out just for the camera. The holes would be like the ones sold for the eye xo. 2nd they do sell a protection plan for ball strikes for like $200 for the year if someone wanted to do that vs buying a protector for now but sounds like you going through your homeowners was the best option cost wise. I think I will make my own or just go without.Originally posted by cvclub View PostI reached out to the mfg of the carbonate cover but no response yet. This was the latest update on my order - seems like this should work
I've had some more discussions with the cover manufacturer. They are not going to do the 'no cutout' version. Instead, it's gonna come with the large cutouts but they will provide inserts you can add that cover the hole but a cutout is done where the camera is. This keeps their stock simpler to have just a single version of the polycarbonate. They have tested it with the VX and the VX works as normal. Here's some pics of how it looks.

That is good news. Would love to see what it looks like but I don’t see the image.Originally posted by BJPJJS View PostThis was the latest update on my order - seems like this should work

Planning to do a DIY protection. Some questions though.
1. What material have you used for the protection?
2. I know people make cutouts for the camera but will the sheet interfere with the infra red?
3. Should the shield be parallel to the unit face or is it OK if parallel to the ceiling?
Thanks in advance guys for any help.

What do you guys use to drill polycarbonate? One, for the screws to mount the sheet and two, for the camera cutouts?

regular drill bit, fast carful when your just about through, if it’s thin you can heat a nail and melt through, you’ll have to saw the cutouts probably with a jigsaw and fine tooth blade, hold down tightly, hope this helps

I'm not clear on the benefits of a perspex shield if the primary vulnerable element, the camera area, is still exposed.
Is there any response/guidance from Protee on this apart from the acknowledgment that a 3rd party was manufacturing a product.

We do not recommend to use any sort of protection which covers the light and camera.
It might work, but it might also not work and cause all sort of issues.
Our support team dealt with a couple of cases where results were off for some reason. It turned out the plastic (although transparant) was reflecting light back into the cameras causing misreads.
It might work if the cameras are not covered and there is no space between the plastic and the lights, but we haven't tested this.
