  • Protee VX spin and club data issues

Hey everyone. Ordered my Protee a couple months ago, got it in mid April and finally, FINALLY got everything set up over the weekend. I've hit about 120 shots so far and I am so pumped to finally have my own simulator set up.

I am looking for some advice and guidence from more experienced users. My protee is about 10'2" off the ground, so slightly higher then the recommended setting. And I'm just a little over 3 feet from the launch monitor for my hitting area, which I know is supposed to be 3'7".

So a couple things. When I did the calibration, it says place the board in the middle of your play/hitting area. I did that. Half the board was outside the box, even after expanding it to "max". So I moved the calibration board to the back 3rd of my hitting area so it would be more centered to the hitting area box that displays during the calibration process. 2nd, for the two images during calibration, the left image was perfectly centered, the right image showed the calibration board at a significant angle. Is that normal? I have no idea how I would manipulate things so the calibration board is showing dead center/straight to the screen on both images if that is what you're working to do during calibration.

So unfortunately now I have to stand at the very back of my 12x12 base and literally use just the last 8 inches to put my ball down to hit so it's inside the hitting zone.

That actually wouldn't be an issue, the real core issue is the club data and spin numbers don't need to match up at all. I am hitting the ball way straighter then I know I do, lol. My theory is because i'm too close to the launch monitor it's not getting enough time to accurately pick up spin numbers. Thus the low spin readings and straighter then expected shots. Clubhead and ball speeds seem consistent to what I get on a Trackman 4 I've used over the past two winters. But I am wondering if my calibration is messed up too because the club data, specifically face angle, seems way off. It is displaying a value for open face at impact but the videos show consistently, a closed face (specifically a problem i'm going to be working on, not closing the face through impact).

I was thinking I would move my entire set up back 6 inches to a foot, which will be a painstaking process of using a mallet and gently going around the back as disassembling the entire thing and putting it back together just seems way too daunting a task. And if that works to clear up the data issues then I can move it back and remount the protee. But I thought I should reach out and ask other users before I go through all that effort if there is something else I should be trying first. I've attached a couple photos that show a 6.3 open face but on the images attached of the club right before and at impact you can pretty clearly see a closed face.

I changed the handedness from "detect" to Righty just to see if that could have been the issue but alas, no change at all. Any advice or feedback would be so greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Matt

Important to know is that all data points are measured individually. The ball flight uses only ball data. Club data readings have no effect on the ball flight.
The ball ball will be launched using speed, spin and angles. All the club data shown is not being used to actually launch the ball and project the ball flight.

Looks like rou're hitting it very fat. The club is hitting the ground before the ball. The VX will not be able to get a perfect face reading. The bottom of the club is burried too deep into the turf.
The ball spin will be accurate but then might not make sense compared to the face to path, because the face reading will not be perfect.

The first image is showing the face just before you hit the ball. On the second one the ball has been hit and took off (follow through is visible). The first image is the one used for the face angle.
The dotted lines on the image are what the VX defines as "straight".

For accurate face readings, make sure you hit the turf after the ball so the VX can see to full club face or pick up the ball clean.

The calibration looks fine. You need to place the board in the center of the camera feed. There you configure the play area.

Our team can see what happend and why if you send in a bug report from ProTee Labs. The bug report will send the full calibration, all the images and all the data points. Its very hard to tell why something happend and if a reading is correct from just 1 image

Thanks for the thoughtful response and insight to how the unit operates. I can’t imagine my strike was too fat, it was an 88 mph swing speed producing 121 mph ball speed with a 1.37 smash factor. But to entertain the idea I just hit some balls until I picked one clean. It’s not as “open” as the original image, but I think the images displayed clearly show a closed face angle but the data is saying it’s open face angle.

I did hit the report issue button this time. This hasn’t been isolated to these two swings, I just used that one picture as an example of the theme of the issue.

People are having better results on spin when the make sure the ball logo is facing the VX or by using marked balls.
