  • Club head speed

I hope someone has an answer. A golfer came in today and asked if he could use his Garmin computer to see the accuracy of the ProTee system. We began testing with a 7 iron finding the club head speed 20 mph slower than on the Garmin, although the distances were pretty much consistent with the two programs. Next, we tried to move the club head speed up in ProTee while increasing the drag factor of the ball. Although not perfect, we found the measurements to be more aligned.

The curious part of this experiment was we went to a 5 wood where we found the club head speed was only registering 8-12 mph for 10 swings on the ProTee system. We went back to a driver and we were getting readings that were consistent with the Garmin. I have cameras, but they do not work. The shadow of the club from the lights are clear. Should I go to a brighter halogen lamp or is there an LED light that would work? Do I have to adjust for each individual club for club head speed and ball drag? If anyone on this forum can help me figure out what caused this, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

Hmm. I have a separate unit that I use for club head speed when I am not using my protee. I have used it in conjunction with protee and found it it accurate to 1-2mph between the two. Check and make sure your light is directly over the tee hole. Also, are you using 50w halogen bulbs or do you have something different in there. That can make a difference. Also check Tom make sure there isn’t debris in your sensor, you can hit debug in the interface and see if any sensors might be disabled too. The cameras don’t matter and club head speed is not used to calculate carry distance only ball speed, Launch angle and estimated spin rate.

Thank you for your response. I have 50w halogens right now and lights are 10' above sensors. We plumbed the lights over the ball area. I have an after market track lighting system with these fixtures https://noralighting.com/product/ntl-250/ I have attempted to use the aluminum tape to direct the lighting into a narrower area. The sensors have a Lexan plastic covering to prevent debris from getting to the sensors and we checked the sensors and it was clear.

Are you using an aftermarket top on your sensor or is it the fiber built one? Mine doesn’t have any plastic
covering the sensor opening. I wonder if you are getting some reflection off that?

Yes. I have an after market country club turf that was custom made, but no thicker than the original mat.

After further review...I believe it has something to do with TGC program. I hit every club on the range and in different bays. All clubs seemed to have good data, except for the 5 wood. Each of the bays showed that the speed with the 5 wood was only 6-12mph. Is there an update that maybe I am missing to the TGC program? I have version SDK 3.5.0 of TGC.

Sounds like you need the system setting up correctly especially get your cameras working correctly. The perspex is not a great idea and was tested but and determined to cause too many issues.

I am also having similar issues buckygolf I just finished my build and started hitting on the mat yesterday. I was getting very accurate readings in the protee interface, then I closed it out and opened up TGC 2019. It seemingly worked but didn't seem like it was reading right. So, I closed it out and went back to the Protee interface. Then, my club head speed is only about 1mph with all clubs. The ball speed is also decreased to about 300rpms, because I believe it's calculated through the club head speed. Nothing at all changed in my setup, except opening tgc without having the protee interface open. It seemed to glitch the club head speed. Now I'm frustrated and stuck. Ball and club face/path, launch angle and everything else are good though. PROTEE UK ? On a side note my V-cam is working good and picking up excellent ball streaks.

Feel free to email me jamie@proteeuk.co.uk and I'll take a look for you.

I have never seen this issue to be honest.
The game can only show what the interface is sending to it.

The game does not have the ability to change the data.

Bad speeds is generally set up related or something blocking sensor activity in the mat like shadow, debris or damage.

I will happily check it out for you just email me to book a time slot

My problem is solved. I ended up not having the correct lighting and had debris deep inside my hitting mat.

A huge shout out to Jamie at PROTEE UK for his amazing customer service and working out the bugs for me.

I cannot recommend how important it is enough to follow Protee's recommendations to a T. I want through about 10 different types of halogens, as well as configurations, but nothing worked and looks as good as the recommended lighting setup. Ar111 50watt halogens, mounted in the proper locations.
      Working...
