Can ProTee Putting Sensor be behind off-center of ProTee hitting mat sensor?

Hi all ProTee people,

I'm finally getting to setup my 2nd hand ProTee with a putting sensor. I spent a little extra to make sure I got Putting Sensor, but now I realize that with the 14' total depth (back wall to screen), that, if I place the putting sensor where it is supposed to go I will end up with 5' from putting sensor to screen!

With the ProTee system, I want to be able to work on my putting as well, and for sure I want to work on putts longer than 5' (probably more like the 10'-12' range MINIMUM), as I would like to drop a cup into the floor at the screen, and would prefer that be more like 10' to 12' range. The only way to do that (with my 14' total depth) is to try to place the putting sensor behind and slightly off center from the hitting mat....

I know this may not be something supported by ProTee, but I wonder if there is some way to set an 'offset' for the putting sensor - in ProTee Golf, or in TGC2019, so that I can actually line-up and hit putts of greater length? I know that the putting sensor measures off-center putting motion, so it seems to be built for measuring putts left/right of center and this leads me to believe that there may be some way to trick the sensor into thinking that I am hitting a straight putt - when I am lined up slightly off-center?

Is it possible? Has anyone else done it?

Hey Brett! Build the system as ProTee designed it. Put the sensor in front of the base unit.

The putting sensor does not care and does not see what happens to the ball after it crosses it.

The putting sensor takes the information it picks up and feeds it into the sim. You are putting whatever the sim says you are putting, could be a 30 footer, could be a 7 footer. The sim does not care where the putting sensor is. However, if you want to experience what the sim expects you to see, put the putting sensor where it's supposed to be - when you look at the projected image, it should show the view that you would have on the green...

If you want to practice your "putting", do it the old fashioned way. Get a putting cup, drop some balls and putt.

Don't screw up your ProTee install. Put the putting sensor where it's supposed to be!

Thanks aja - I was just trying to find a way to be able to get 10' distance or so to a cup, cut in the floor, in front of the sensor, so I could at least get distance/feel for hitting putts of that length. I know it will display on screen properly, but with such a short distance to the cup (4'-5'), I don't really see a need for a cup dead center as I will be ramming it way further than that and that 'visual' of the ball flying over the cup, even if it is dead-center, will not help me get feels/distance for 10', 12', 14' or greater putts, which I would say majority of my putts are, if they're not of the 30'-50' variety

I get it, I'll probably setup something like a 'birdie-ball' green for 14'-15' putt along the side of the sensors then for practicing putts when I'm not playing on the sim What kind of mat do you use for those longer putts / practice? And, does it matter than which mat you get for the rest of the 12'x15' space, should I try to find something cheap that still runs at 7-10 on the stimp?

I think you'll find as many opinions as there are golfers about whether putting on the sim helps with real world putting. Same for practice putting indoors helping your real world outdoor game.

I'm the wrong guy for that part of the discussion. I have three putting cups in my sim room. Idea was to use them for practice. In reality, I almost never use the ones at the sides, since putting is not the problem in my game, generally. (Read, the rest of my game is so bad that that is what I concentrate on.)

I do however use the cup that is in line with my putting sensor. But really as a visual aid when putting on the sim.

You could offsett the sensor but the lights will not line up so you will have a darker area to detect the ball on either right or left so not ideal.
personally having a cup in front is not a great idea.
For a professional point of view, if you have a 20ft out, do you really want to see the ball smash into the back of the cup or fly over it?
Not great feedback for distance control.
Why not put a cup down one side and practice putting there working on holig out and puts within the allowed distance of your set up?
ProTee is great on putting green area for helping you develop some feel, ie ability to use length of stroke and pace of stroke.
If you have a 3 foot put then you will be seeing the ball coming up short of a cup so not the best way mentally to improve

Thank you for the feedback on this. As someone who's mid installation, I was curious about the cup idea, as well. I'll forget that idea now.
