  • Course Editor and WGC 2011

I've been doing some research and have run in to questions I can't answer on my own.

    1) Is there a course editor available for the ProTee Play software as advertised on their "Features" page?

    2) If yes--has anyone used it, is there open access to the program, and can we share custom courses?

    3) Does anyone know how this relates to the free courses available from the forum-goers over on GolfSimClubHouse.com with the WGC 2011?

The courses at GolfSimClubHouse.com are the same courses that we use. That's where they come from. The course editor is available on the WGC 2011, CPG, and ProteePlay pc games.

We can't just download those course and use them directly. They have to be convert by Red Chain(maker of those games) first before they can be usable by ProTee 2.0. It's a matter of copy protection.

That's a bummer. So far I've loved everything I've read about Protee except that...it is written to be very misleading.

Do the guys at WGC 2011 forum design courses and then submit them to Red Chain or Protee to have them converted? I am now aware of the 500 Euro fee for conversion. Is this fee waved when ProTee likes a course so much that they add it to the collection?

No. Those guys design those courses and share them with WGC/CPG community to play. After a while, RC, with their permission, grabs a few courses now and then, and converts them for Protee, Foresight, GSA, etc...

RC will then send these converted courses to Protee, Foresight, GSA and other customers to be used on their respective simulators, adding to their library of courses. Protee chooses to not charge for these new courses. Foresight chooses to charge an arm and a leg for them. GSA started charging $100 for new packs of courses.

If you create a good course for WGC/CPG, it will eventually makes it way to Protee. If you want RC to convert a course right away for Protee use(with Protee's permission), perhaps that is where the fee comes in.

Aaron, have you designed courses for games? Have you looked at the course creators for PP and thegolfclub games?

            Hi,

I'm curious about course design as well. Mostly for this reason, I'd like to design a few local courses so I can play them on the simulator (when I get one setup, hopefully by late this year).

The course editor is available on the WGC 2011, CPG, and ProteePlay pc games.
Are you saying it's included in ProTeePlay, where? Are the other editors you mention (WGC 2011, CPG) the same editor, or are there differences?

Have you looked at the course creators for PP and thegolfclub games?
And thegolfclub game, where is this creator, is it the same/different then PP creator? I thought the primary advantage was that the trees are actual objects on PP, and they are not on the others, I suppose that doesn't matter then, it's just the RC conversion that is required, is that right?

I also agree, it's a little misleading on Protee saying that anyone can use the course designer to design their own course, making it sound like there are no additional fees for that?

Please let me know all of the course designers I should look at, and any advantages/disadvantages to using them? Are you saying that nothing we design, even on PP can be used without having the RC conversion? Is there any other way to convert these courses into something playable on PP?

            Thanks,
            -Brett

Read the golfsimclubhouse.com site to find the course creator.

PP is not Protee play. PP is perfect parallel, which is a new simulation software that is not yet finish. They have their own course creator software. Courses you design with this software shouldn't need to be converted.

RC will charge 500 for a conversion. But if you upload the course for all to use, it will eventually get converted for free. But no idea when Protee will get it.

I would suggest you check out the perfect parallel site, In case this becomes our future software.

                Hi,

Read the golfsimclubhouse.com site to find the course creator.
I'm confused at that website. What do I download to design courses? The PGA 2000 Installation package on this page: http://golfsimclubhouse.com/pga2000/utilities.htm

I would suggest you check out the perfect parallel site, In case this becomes our future software.
Yes, it looks amazing over there, but the forums show that there are no ETAs on when it's going to be finished?

As for designing courses, I'm looking for answers on which designer is easier to work with, have you worked with PP, and others so you can compare them for me? I don't exactly have hours and hours to design courses, but if I see it's fun and I can actually play my home course I will get excited enough to do it.

From what I see at these two sites - there are not many course designers serious enough about it, and the ones that are (such as PP), still don't have any idea when their product is going to be ready.

So, you're saying we can use PP Course Forge (or whatever it's called), but I could not even find that to download it from their website??

Any ideas on what it's like using any/all of the course designers you mentioned, for example how long it takes to design a hole using each, how much computer system horsepower I need to do it, etc?

                Thanks,
                -Brett

I don't have any experience but the prospect of building my own local courses (like Covered Bridge) or modifying current ones was enticing. Learning about the 500 euro fee pretty much killed that idea though.

I agree. Which is why I suggested folks check out PP.

Brett, I've never attempted to design a golf course, so I don't have any experience with any software. PP has been very quiet but they did release a short video showing their game. And they are open to simulator integrations.

Yes, I see, ZMax I'm curious if you know of anyone that may have used any of these course designers, or is there anyone reading this that has? Trying to get an idea of how hard/easy it is with the PP one versus others - which I cannot seem to locate a copy of anyway. So, if anyone knows of where I can get a copy of the Course Forge by PP, I'd like to know?

That's what I got out of it too... so, I wonder, is PP ever going to release this??? How much money did they receive on KickStarter, and certainly those investors will be looking for a product. I would guess there's no way it's coming out now, as Spring/Summer are when everyone plays outside, so, likely they will wait until late Summer, or Fall this year. That being the case, I wonder if anyone up here has tried Course Forge from PP, and how easy it is to import that course into ProTee?

                      Thanks,
                      -Brett

I think the CF is in beta. You can try contacting PP to see if you can get on the beta team. Not sure if it's still open. We knew a guy that created one of the courses for the RC game and it got converted for ProTee and other RC sims. He said it was very time consuming. The course is Royal Harare. His username is Sodaboy at the WGC site.

Last I heard PP was trying to release late Spring. Who knows if that will happen. You won't be importing a PP course into Protee. PP courses can only be used with the PP game(Perfect Golf).

Wow, I was looking for something I could import into Protee to play? What are my options for that, one of the other course editors?

I thought I remember seeing on the ProTee website that you had your own Course Editor and that anyone that purchased ProTee could use that editor to create their local home course with it, is that not possible?

                          Thanks,
                          -Brett
