  • First round since purchasing SkyTrak

So the weather gods finally cooperated and I got a day in the PNW to play golf outdoors, the first time since I got the SkyTrak in early January. I was playing better golf before I got the SkyTrak, but being able to hit balls at home has kept reduced the urge to go to the range a few times a week or to try to sneak in a round in the cold/rain. I played a course that I shot -3 on in November which was my best ever, and had only had one other round at Chambers Bay in December (definitely not -3) since then.

My observations playing outdoor vs. in the garage.
    > It was really, really weird seeing the ball actually flying outdoors.
    > My ball flight has changed from all the indoor practice but I think in a good way.
    > I couldn't get in rhythm at all, I don't know if it was cold what (was still in the 40's) but didn't have but a few that felt like they were really clean. They went straight, and for the most part hit the greens but were far from perfect.
    > Putting wasn't as terrible as I thought it would be from all the putting off the mat playing sim - some practice is better than no practice I guess.
    > I got on two par 5's in two that I've never been on in two. I didn't make the Eagle putts but being on in two is a direct impact of the SkyTrak. Even with good drives I'd lay up on these holes in the past. Too much trouble, not enough reward, not enough confidence in the 3W. Not an issue last weekend, felt like I should have been on all 4 par 5's in two.
    > Even with only hitting a few really "clean" shots, I still managed to shoot even par, which I've only done a couple other times.

    So far good investment!

You said it all when you said "weird" Dan. I have had the ST for about 4 months now, having only played a handful of real golf rounds. For perspective, I spend an hour a day on the ST. It's definitely different and I don't really feel comfortable during the rounds I've played but all in all the score ends up pretty good. And in my opinion putting (I play a lot of TGC) is sharper than anything. Better in golf is hard to gauge, but hell it ain't no worse! Good luck.

Played my first round after using skytrak this winter - I've always been a low draw hitter. After working on that w/skytrak - I hit everything much higher and straighter. My mat is so punishing that it's taught me to hit the ball much cleaner. Excited to see how the year turns out.

Looking forward to my trip to Scottsdale next week for this very reason. Will be interesting to be back playing real golf again.

I'm actually heading out for the wife's birthday next week. She picked the spot and asked to play golf. Now if I could only teach her to have a hot meal ready for me when I get home from the office!

Dan Frost awesome man! I'm playing Chambers Bay next Monday, I've never played the real course before, only the WGT sim version. I too played Saturday for the first time on a real course since I got my ST just have the new year and I couldn't believe how well I was playing. Went with my 7 yr old son so we just played the Williams Nine at Meadow Park, but I drove a par 4 for only the 2nd time ever, which was pretty awesome. The ST has definitely been a great investment, I'm curious to see how my game will do at Chambers, I'm not expecting anything too crazy, also hoping the rain stays away! Hit'em straight!

Good luck man! That is by far my favorite local public course, rain or shine, completely different kind of golf than anything I normally play. Hopefully they get the greens figured out. I heard they are going to let the native grass grow in so they aren't so spotty. Curious how they look when you are there, they weren't great in December and the grass isn't really growing around here, so who knows what they will look like now.
