  • 1st sim build w/sky tracker advice please!

Greetings everyone. I am doing some homework on my 1st sim build and have a few questions and will definitely have more.

    1. Do dual surface mats (IE rough and fairway texture) work with sky tracker? If so what are some recommended ones
    2. I plan to mount a projector on the ceiling of my garage. It would be about 10' from the impact screen. Any recommendations on 1080P projectors?

Here is my current list of items for the build, let me know what I am forgetting! I am really looking forward to being able to practice at night. I have a little one and finding time to play a round on the weekends is tough now a days!

    1. sky tracker $1700
    2. sky tracker armor $150
    3. TGC subscription $900
    4. 96"x96" impact screen $175
    5. projector ???
    6. gaming PC $500
    7. garage protection ect $150 ish
    8. hitting mat ???

$500 won't get you a gaming PC that will play TGC very well.

I wouldn't bother with a dual surface mat. Moving the Skytrak unit back and forth and keeping it aligned properly would be a pain, unless it was on custom rails of some sort. Suppose a mat could have an interchangeable cutout area, but just seems like more trouble than it's worth.

Agree with Keither that $500 is too cheap for PC. $800 will do it, though. nVidia GTX 1060 is a good affordable graphics card that runs TGC at full res nicely.

For projector, I love my BenQ HT1075 that I picked up new on eBay for $550. It throws around 7x10ft from 11 feet away. Killer feature is the horizontal keystone correction, so I can just set it on a short table behind ST and not fuss with ceiling mount or have my head casting shadows.
