    GSA or Protee

Going to be building a new home and will have a man cave basement and putting in a new Golf Simulator. I have Skytrac now, but I of course am left handed and my buddies are right. For the bang for your buck so to speak to easily do left and right to keep less than 10k which do you think is the best?

Never played on GSA but I'm a big fan of ProTee.

There would hardly be a golfer around that has extensive experience on both GSA and Protee. I have a GSA PX5 as well as a GC2. ProTee and GSA use similar if not identical tech but there are a few minor differences. Putting is the biggest one. When I first bought the sim, I thought..... who would ever want to work on their putting with a sim.....how could it be accurate? GSA has the best system for putting by far. Your putting area can be moved 12-24 inches ahead of your hitting area. This allows you to put down a carpet that resembles real green conditions. Also, you don't have to putt over a sensor. I have done a rail test with my system and found that HA is accurate within 0.13 of a degree and speed within 1/10 of a mph.

ProTee and GSA are similar in price. Protee is a larger company with stellar customer service. GSA is a small company. While I have not had issues with customer service, there are others that have a different opinion. If you go with GSA, stick with the PX5 as there are numerous offerings. If you feel that you need ball spin data, this can be added later on. GSA systems are modular which allows for simple and easy upgrades. I went from a CX2 to a PX5 system in about 10 minutes.

I have used my PX5 and GC2 to measure the same shot. The results are always very close, even around the green. At times, the SA will differ greatly. This happens on less than 10% of the shots. When this happens, I am leaning towards the PX5 as being the accurate one.

I am currently nursing some injuries that has limited me to mostly working on my short game. I recorded a short video of me chipping and then hitting some easy 9 irons. I will post it shortly.

I would be confident in the accuracy of both GSA and ProTee. One thing that you will enjoy is not having to wait for the shot to be displayed on the screen. Both GSA and ProTee are about 1/2 second delay.

As I am on vacation and don’t have a lot of time but saw this and wanted to respond. Comparing a GC2 that’s giving actual data and a px5 which is giving calculated data plus being able to manipulate interface is laughable. If the px5 is being based by you thinking that you can drive 300 yards IRL and the GC2 must be wrong as it’s giving you 250 I am giving the GC2 the benefit of the doubt and trust its numbers over the GSA.

ProTee has a much larger base of users in this Forum, and I would assume in general, since one of the concerns with GSA is customer support.

Both GSA and ProTee are hands-on DIY systems. ProTee support is excellent. GSA rarely is described as such.

I would argue that "GSA is the best system for putting by far" is an opinion, since the person who stated that certainly hasn't tested both systems side by side. ProTee putting, for me, is surprisingly realistic indeed. You also putt from whatever surface you choose to install to mimic a putting green.

In case it isn't clear, I am a fan of the ProTee and am very happy that I made the decision to go that route.

I have no experience with gsa but i have owned protee and skytrak. I would have a hard time giving up measured spin and would try to find a way to accommodate left and right handed play using skytrak or even step up to the gc2. protee is very good with calculated spin but if it isn't measured, there is more room for error.

an example would be drivers with adjustable weights. let's say hypothetically, you set one of these drivers to extreme draw bias and hit a drive right out of the middle of the face. then set it to extreme fade bias and you manage to make the exact same swing with the same strike, with the only difference being the COG. the ball flight of the two drives would be different but protee and I assume gsa would show the ball flights to be identical since it calculates spin based off of club face, club path, ball speed and launch angles.

I want to jump back in because I think there needs to be some distinction made as to your intent and purpose.

It is true that the ProTee and GSA calculate spin, etc. Now you can juice it and make it so that you can hit 500 yd drives, etc. and if you want that kind of toy then go for it.

However, that same amount of control and "manipulation" can be used to dial in the system so perfectly that you can get as close to actual numbers than the launch monitors that cost thousands of more dollars, require you to tape your clubs, and gives you a artificial 3-5 second delay between hitting the ball and seeing it fly on the screen.

So, my point is don't blame the tool for having such controls.....blame the man setting it up.

I don't care if you are a scratch golfer or 20+ handicap....if you have played long enough, you know how long you really hit the damn ball, setup your system to match it!!!!

Do you want spin numbers? Go gc2
Do you want club face data? Go ProTee
Do you want fixed permanent system or mobility?
Plug n Play or customizing ability?
              left/right or just one side?
Immediate shot results or shot delay?

              You get the picture.......

I was interested in Pro Tee but I bought Skytrak in the end. I could never find detailed data comparisons between Pro Tee and GC2/Trackman so I was never sure about the accuracy. There are plenty of quite forensic comparisons for Skytrak out there though and that did it for me

Here is a video showing GSA’s PX5 vs the GC2 measuring the same shot ( most likely ProTee's results would be similar). The main difference is that GSA calculates ball spin whereas the GC2 measures it.At about the 5 minute mark of the video, I started opening and closing the club face to see if I could get a bigger difference in shots. This is where the GC2 will be superior. The GC2 will be able to measure the exact backspin and therefore have more accurate results. The PX5 relies on measured face angle, path, ball speed and LA to calculate the ball spin. From the video, you can see that it does a pretty good job.

                  During the 9 iron shots,
that difference in HA seems to make a bigger difference.A few times the SA differed greatly. Many of the shots showed a slight fade from the PX5 while the GC2 had a slight draw or vice versa. This could be the difference in HA playing a factor along with a difference in SA.The farther you hit the ball, that +/- 1 degree can make a bigger difference in where the ball ends up.GSA’s face angle is accurate within +/- 0.65 of a degree,so that could mean that their calculations will differ from the actual spin numbers. Also, the slight differences could be because of alignment as well.

Keither, I get some varying distances on. My gc2 based on quality of strike and how it affects the spin. How does the gsa handle that? Would all the shot have similar spin? For example if I catch the ball high on the face vs low on the face with driver and confirmed with hmt, the spin could be over 1,000 rpm different. How would it appear on gsa? Can it detect high face vs low face and make the correct adjustments? Same with toe and heel shots?

That is where the GC2 is vastly superior. If you notice in the first 5 min, the shots were similar. And when I get creative with the opening the face or picking the ball clean, the spin will vary greatly. Toe and heal shots are measured by where the club passes over the sensor..... I am not sure how the interface changes the ball flight accordingly. High or low on the face would not be measured. If a shot has identical club data and ball data, the spin data would also be the same. That is why I changed it up a bit at the 5 minute mark. To show the difference.

A spin camera can be added to the GSA system. That addition is quite costly but for some it is probably worth it. Sensor systems also have trouble with short chips as the ball is measured 5 feet away from the hitting area. Some of the newer mats have direction and speed sensors ahead of the club sensors that would address this flaw. For me, the PX5 has been invaluable in teaching me how to shape the ball and how relative path affects ball flight. Now that I understand that, the next thing to work on is spin control and for that you need a spin camera or GC2.

To answer your question.... sensor systems don't handle mishits as accurately as the GC2. The last few chips in the video I was just punching it out there..... I would think that the GC2 was the more accurate system with those shots.

Both systems were close enough that any player would accept the results from either system as accurate.

Set GSA to default settings then you might have my buy in on this after test as GC2 is not a system you can manipulate unless you want to force it through GSX which should be locked IMO played with a guy last summer who I will not name and on sim game he can hit 275 which is very impressive but IRL was barely 230 with rollout
