  • PGA Merchandise Show 2018

The show is coming up here i think in about two weeks...was wondering if anybody on this forum was going or lived in the area. I see skygolf has a booth...wonder what they could be showing...hopefully coming out with something new...any integration between anything and skytak certainly would be welcomed!!! Pretty excited...Im here in missouri (kansas city) and we have our yearly golf show in february. Time to start revving up the new year! Tell me what you guys expect to be on display this year? Anything new or more of the same. Also let me know what its like if you've ever been to one of these Merchandise shows. I usually just catch clips from youtubers

Just watched the video, looks like great addition. Would love to test if you need testers

The dog leg functionality is going to be a great way to practice tee shots--nice! What would really be sweet is if you could design a hole with this functionality or even better 18 holes! No chipping or putting, just FIR and GIR statistics. NEXT LEVEL!

I was just thinking the same thing. Give us non-sim users just a taste of sim golf, and make practice a bit more interesting. Choose fairway shape & length. Choose green size. Hit away. Nothing fancy.

Hey SkyTrak_Seth not sure if this has been brought up or not...reviewed this thread and didnt notice anyone mention. First of all loving all the new hardware additions and the software changes for changing fairway lengths and such. I had a question in terms of the skills assessment front.. Was wondering if within any of these "to come" updates were any additions being made on that behalf. I currently love the skills assessment but as others have mentioned...setting it up everytime does become a hassle (even with it remembering the last one used) Will the software changes of shaping the fairways and things be included in all aspects of the software or just practice mode? For instance can i do skills assessment and make a dog leg 6 iron shot but straight 7 iron shot and narrow the fairway with a hybrid shot? Just was curious if there were any tidbits of software changes coming that werent addressed in Cory's video. Any thing you can share would be great!

Yeah, we will be adding a bank of saved configurations as well as a randomize feature based on all your requests. It won't be in this coming release but the next.

SkyTrak_Seth is the club data something that will come up on screen automatically after each shot for 5 or 10 seconds to view or only if you go into the club data menu can you see it?

          Contrived hypothetical scenario:

Player 1 hits a dead straight shot with center face impact, zero face angle and zero path to target line.

Player 2 hits a dead straight shot by swinging slightly faster 5 degrees in to out, face 1 degree closed, toe hit.

Without additional hardware, Skytrak cannot possibly differentiate club head data between these two swings as measured ball speed, VLA, HLA and spin will be identical.

That's where the SkyPro data comes in, no?

Yeah, for now we can only base off center hits.

Yes, if skypro data is fully merged, and statistical analysis is applied, it is a totally different ball game. Who knows what data can be mined. For example, when hitting off a tee, it might be possible deduce where on the club contact was made by analyzing the twisting & deceleration of the club head after contact.

Originally, that's how I had it setup. But going through it in practice, it wasn't a good user experience. I kept wanting to either see it more, or see the range instead, so that's why we split it out to it's own screen. I suppose we could still let it be a popup now that users can access it on it's own screen at any time, but the popup still got in the way for me.

It would be great to have dual monitor support, that always displayed club data on the second window. There are probably other controls that would be useful.

As someone who doesnt hit in to a screen and uses my laptop and monitor and skytrak is always on computer monitor i second this notion! plenty of room on the monitor for both to run side by side would be great!!!

Dual monitor support is a great idea and has been mentioned before. I will try to get that in.

SkyTrak_Seth thats fair enough... i guess if there is a setting that users can choose weather it is on screen after each shot or not just gives flexability. i like the visual of it... very clean look graphics wise.

I'd like to be part of the beta group too. My Skytrak is in the mail to be delivered next week and already have a skypro.

@SkyTrak_Seth - Will you be releasing a way to mount the skypro on multiple clubs easily like the r-motion does? It probably wouldn't be easy with the current design I guess, but interested to know your thoughts.

That's more of a SkyPro question, so I really can't answer that.

The release of club data has me wondering... is SkyTrak already attempting to measure club head speed somehow? I always thought that was a generic number based on ball speed...

I'm surprised you guys are excited, I too am excited, but I can't help but feeling there should have been HW upgrade. Skypro is almost 2 years old product, there hasn't been any HW breakthroughs in 2 years??

Yeah I was hoping for some new product to measure club data. Skypro is unreliable. I have had 2 of them fail within a few weeks of use. See the Amazon reviews...lots of others with the same issue. No way am I going to buy a 3rd.

That being said, its good to see Skytrak adding some software features. Getting the calculated club data will likely not be very accurate for most shots, but the level of effort required to build the software is large. I am happy to see Skytrak spending the time and money to add such a feature to the existing product. They must be doing well. This gives hope that they will continue releasing new hardware and software in the future.

I am sure there will be a Skytrak 2 at some point, hopefully with some reliable club data.

For the time being...and based on other launch monitors I have seen at PGA 2018, Skytrak is still the best for home use. Ball data is very accurate. Price is good compared to anything else. Lots of sim options.

Its a shame there is a such a huge gap between Skytrak and GC2/HMT and GCQuad. Something needs to come out to fill that gap. Ball + Club data for $3000, hopefully that will exist at PGA 2019...

My guess is that the market for club data is MUCH smaller than that for simulation/basic game improvement. Teaching professionals who are in the market for club data would be happy to pay HMT/Quad prices in return for the increased accuracy.

Having said that, just like you, I am one of those game improvement users who would happily pay a low four figure amount for reasonably accurate club data.

I am going to give the skypro a chance. I bought mine as soon as they came out, and it still works, though the battery is only good for 50 swings.
                    Working...
