Same smash factor all the time with Driver???

    Same smash factor all the time with Driver???

    Wondering if the smash factor is just a fixed number they use when swinging a driver? Every time I hit a driver, ball speed and head speed change, but the smash factor on my drives and most three woods comes in a 1.47. I wish I was that consistent but I suck. It doesn't seem to change weather I hit it flush or toe it, same smash factor. I'm guessing the machine is just reading ball speed, using a smash factor of 1.47 and giving you head speed based on that?

    In order to measure smash factor you need to know club head speed and that is not being measured with ST.

      Photometric devices such as GC2 & ST do not measure clubhead speed (without additional hardware).

      The GC2 simply assumes a fixed smash for each club and calculates CHS from ball speed.if you hit it clean, it is probably close.

      The ST tries to go a bit further by using the other measured variables to estimate quality of contact, and in then in turn estimate CHS. It is far from perfect, but if your smash is very consistent on ST, you are probably doing something right.

          Hi Gary,

          Unlike the gc2 which uses assumed constant, ST tries to calculate CHS.

          As per seth from a different thread: "It's a good question. We currently calculate club speed based on all measured parameters and if you hit a shot in the center of the club face, the swing speed is extremely accurate. But you are correct, at the end of the day, our PTI is only as good as our club speed calculation"
