  • SkyTrak is unusable in the sun

I know some have said that the skytrak works fine as long as the sun is not shining directly into the unit, but I'm not seeing that. If the sun is out without cloud cover, my skytrak reads inaccurate numbers more than 80% of the time.

Does anyone have any hacks for this? Do I need to shield the entire unit and the ball?

Others might disagree but the sktrak is indoor only. I have used in the evening in the shade hitting into a net, but during the day I would forget about it.

I have never registered a shot outdoors. Tried 3 different occasions, different ranges (different sun angles). Off grass and off a (dirty) mat. Prob 20 shots at each range. Nada. Would like to take it somewhere covered to try, but don't have that around here.

I use mine in my driveway exclusively. It is usually shaded because I hit in the evenings and my house blocks the sun.. I hit 80-100 balls per session and get about 3 misreads per session. I use only the SkyTrak app in Practice mode. I've only owned it for 3 weeks, but so far I'm happy with it.

My skytrak picks up every shot in the sun. The problem is, the numbers are whack. I'm consistently in the mid 150s with my driver and play an exclusive draw. Yesterday I was hitting my driver during the day and was seeing the ball go straight right with ball speed numbers of in the low 130s.

Timely post. Our range set is where the Skytrak faces West into the sun. I tried to use it the week--but only could get 1-2 reads per 20+ shots.

I do use mine in my driveway---with no issues--bit my set up is completely shaded.

I appreciate the shared problem solving that occurs in this forum. Have you tried using a "sunshield" such as an empty golf ball box on top of unit?

Just an update--I used mine in the shade last night. I hit 40+ shots---and only had a couple of misreads. I will also try the sunshade mentioned above.

Seems that overexposure is the most likely cause. I wonder if a piece of Neutral Density (ND) film might help? Also, I've place black foamcore board behind me in my indoor sim as a background. Not certain, but I think it cut back on No-reads.

This is an interesting idea. I'd love to give this a try. Do you have any links to something that might work?

And speaking of "film", I still have the plastic film/sticker on my unit that says, "do not remove". Is this actually not to be removed?
