DO NOT Remove the protective film cover??

So I just got my skytrak and this warning was in the document bag. Its referring to the thin film ( i assume) on the front of the skytrak under the aperture area. The film has bubbles in it etc. I cant imagine wanting to keep this piece of plastic on...

Yeah its a strange thing to put in the document. My skytrak window was all scratched up (on the inside of the case) when I bought it new, so the protective film seemed a little optimistic!

I removed it.

I have kept mine on and it works fine, just have to dust it off on occasion. I did read in a post recently that SkyTrak_Seth wrote that it is okay to remove the film. However, I haven't and I got my ST in December so I figured why change now.

yeah now that its in the protective case, its hardly visible or obvious. I usually leave these type of things on anyway, so I guess i will here. its so gratifying removing it though

Mine worked better with it off. It had a bunch of air bubbles in it too. Can't imagine how a protective film does any good after shipping, especially for a camera that needs precision images.

Removed mine day one. I always thought they were referring to the plastic cover and not the film. Oh well, if I read instructions I might be better off. :-)

Lol, does the user guide still state "be sure to remove the protective film from its optics lens" like it did when I asked the same question 18 months ago in the thread below? I took mine off and have no regrets.

I just received mine yesterday. Protective film was halfway falling off, creased and has bubbles all over the part that was left stuck to it. Looks like unit was previously opened and repackaged. Either it was opened to test or upgrade or it was a return that was used (which I would not be happy about).

Anyway film will be removed when I put it in it’s Metal Case.

If a lot of users left theirs own, that may help explain some of their misreads and issues.

Imagine sticking that on to a camera lense and then take a photo, even without bubbles it would certainly degrade the quality.

Took mine off. No issues. The flimsy piece of film looked like temporary protection to avoid finger print smudge and scratches during packaging and shipping. Therefore I assume that the film they warn you not to remove is something else, perhaps tinted film that is meant to be permanent.

Is the film clear, or tinted? If it's tinted, it could help prevent overexposure in well-lighted and sunny locations.
Do you guys remove mattress tags too?

Clear.

No I do not remove mattress tags. They are not in my way nor do they impact it’s functionality.

But I do remove all of the temporary packaging and protective film with pull tabs from the screens of new devices. Such as cell phones, laptops, iPads, monitors, LCD TVs, and SkyTraks.

This temporary film may have bubbles and scratches and typically does not have the appropriate optical clarity, and may scratch easily. They are only there for protection during packaging and shipping.

Do you leave the protective wrap on the heads and grips of your golf clubs?

I think the confusion is that the SkyTrak has a real screen/lenses protector. Similar to the ones you buy for your cell phone. It is underneath the temporary one with the pull tabs (at least on mine and some others anyway).

Grab the tab and pull to remove the temporary ones on the front and back. They have pull tabs for a reason.

Do not remove the second one, under temporary one with the pull tab, on the front lens. If you look very closely, underneath the temporary one with the pull tabs, you should see the rounded corners of it near the edges.

I think everybody is confusing the temporary film (the kind one you find on every device you buy) with the "hard" one (like plexyglass). The second film is rigid and should not be removed. I had to change it once because a ball broke it and it saved my skytrak which had no damage on the lenses thank to the rigid film.

There is also what appears to be another flexible piece of film screen/lens protector on top of the hard plexiglass (at least on mine and others I have read about.)

It is only on the front. I could see some of the edges and rounded corners under the temp, removable one with the pull tabs.
