  • New SkyTrak Won't Read

As the subject title says, I was finally able to get my new SkyTrak set up today. It read 3 or so shots.

    It's level and I didn't change anything.

Their customer service is closed for the extended weekend and the one guy I was able to talk to about it (website chat) was absolutely no help.

I tried it on PC and I tried it on my cell, they both connect but won't read any shots. I tried both modes on my cell and all three on the PC.

Does anyone have any ideas on anything I can try?

Does the red laser pointer come on? Does it stay on if you waggle a club in front of it, or does it turn off and then come back on?

The laser pointer comes on. It stays on. All the lights stay green.

It does constantly say checking license files in the software though and can take forever. By constantly I mean every time I change windows.

I have problems with my Skytrak connecting to my ipad, it does the "checking license files" problem like you said. With my laptop in USB mode, it connects almost instantly.

OK..so all lights are green... that is good. I assume you have a red laser dot. When you swing to hit the ball the I believe the top light should turn red and then green again..does this happen? Reading license again after you finish a game - meaning going back to main screen is normal...which I think is insane. It should read just read the license info once a week. Aslo, why does it lose our username and password every time we upgrade to a new version.

Have you got it working yet?

Sometimes the top light turns red for a bit, but it's still not reading any data. I haven't messed with it at all today, I wanted to, but I also want to hit it into the net so I thought I'd avoid it for the day.

I'm assuming the checking license/username and password deal is poor (read: lazy) programming but that's not my area of expertise.

Funny thing is... the few shots it worked for was before I upgraded the license. Hmm...

maybe there is an issue then that it's not finding your upgrade and is unable to verify it.

Have you tried hard closing the apps? I have had a few hiccups when I go in and out of the ST and WGT apps. If I close them all then restart ST it usually starts working again.

              Multiple times, nothing worked.

Are you hitting off your golf mat or just testing a few chip shots off your carpet? If you aren't hitting off a green grass colored mat or carpet the SkyTrak isn't going to read the golf ball.

I have tried off of my mat (the first one) and just because I tried it off grass and carpet.

Sorry to hear you had trouble over the weekend. We used to check license files only at startup but when people had trouble getting their memberships attached, we changed to every time you return to the dashboard. This meant that when a user upgraded their membership or customer support helped someone get their membership sorted, it no longer became necessary to close the app and restart it. It should be really quick though...if it's hanging, I may need to change that as it should not be disruptive.

Did you have any luck today? Any pics of your setup?

I called in today and was told to send pictures of my setup to an email address and someone will call me. Let's hope that works since I work the opposite schedule of most people.

Can someone tell me why my SkyTrak will not reset? The representative on the phone and the one online on Saturday just kind of blow that off. Today, I was told to restart my router and then reset my SkyTrak... that's not how that works. I'll give it a shot, just so I can waste my time but that's not how it works. I'm also not really positive that it's connecting to my router since it doesn't pick up on the main one (long story short, I have Google Fiber but use my own router. WiFi is turned off on Fiber and my router is set up as an AP to avoid added latency.)

Also, if it was a setup issue... why would it be the same result in multiple areas and work for a few shots before it stopped?

Update: Email sent. Also, like I said, restarting the router did nothing. SkyTrak is still not resetting. I'd really like to just try the basic things so... if anyone can tell me how to get it to reset that'd be great. (I know, the "button" on the bottom. It's not working.)

Update #2: I went back outside to take photos of setup with the SkyTrak. (I assumed that was kind of a given the first time, you know what they say about assuming.) While doing so I hit the power button while setting it down on accident and noticed the top two lights were staying solid red. That could be good, maybe it finally reset and isn't connecting to the WiFi. I snap the photos and go back inside. I set it up in the living room (definitely not an ideal setup, but the space/shag rug are great for chipping practice. Sometimes I love being single. ) Phone app wanted to update to a new version so I did that, and took 5 or so chips in the living room. It didn't read one but I'm chalking that up to the shag carpet (ball sits down a good bit). I'm not sure why it finally reset (I tried multiple times already and it would immediately just reconnect to the WiFi) but I'm not complaining. I think I'm just going to avoid WiFi and connect directly to my phone and/or USB to the PC. I have no idea what happened but hopefully it keeps working.

Do you have your ST set up outside?

I only tried it outside when it wasn't working. Was trying to figure out if it was where I had it set up and simply moved it outside.

This is very sad. I mean can SkyTrak not stand by their products?

Here is an idea: SkyTrak - how about you figure out a way to serve us so we don't have to go onto golfsimulatorforum.com and figure this out? I have ideas, but I don't want to waste my time, but I will because you already have my money and you DON'T care.

I have to hit balls for 30 minutes, getting 1 in 20 to register before A - HA IT WORKS! I am too busy to waste such time.

Maybe you can send mobile people around to come and fix our issues? And if they are fixable, then we pay you? And if they are not, then you deal with it?

                  Bye!

I have called customer service and had zero help. I have communicated online only to be magically disconnected. The manual has been read cover to cover. Trouble shooting has been done. Zero improvements.

Alert! Buyer beware. There are owners of Skytrak who are quietly mad and not getting anywhere.

It worked last year well. This year it does not. I am doing everything exactly the same as last year.

                    Beware.

th3k1ng , to me, it sounds like you had the unit in network mode. But maybe your iPad was bouncing between networks in the background...could that be possible?

                      1) The unit probably reset on its own because you took it outside the range of the wireless network you had programmed to it. The way to tell if the unit is in network mode or direct mode is to turn it on with the app closed. If the middle light goes yellow, it is in network mode. If the top two are red, then it is in direct mode and will omit its own WiFi signal you can connect directly to.

                      2) Is there a reason you want to use it in network mode? Are you using WGT?

                      3) You can make sure the unit resets to direct mode boot priority by connecting the unit to the app in direct mode. Then click device connections and choose the direct mode option. That will restart the unit and ensure the unit always starts in direct mode. If you've used the "go outside away from the network" method of getting it reset, it will still attempt to boot in network mode and search for that network every time.

Using an Android phone on one network or a PC on one network.

                        1) Was never outside the range of my network.

                        2) I assumed Network would be easier. I did try (and according to the app/s) to connect in both USB and direct mode after and it still wasn't reading correctly.

                        3) That would be where we are now.
                    Working...
