  • SkyTrak display ratio when using Apple's digital AV adapter (lightning to HDMI)

    Hi,

Has anyone been able to get the iOS SkyTrak app to display / be projected to any other aspect ratio besides 4:3 on a projector or TV? If so, how?

I recently bought the Apple digital AV adapter (lightning to HDMI) to use with my 6th gen iPad for projecting the SkyTrak app through a projector. The SkyTrak app displays on the screen, but it's fixed to the iPad's native display ratio of 4:3 and is much smaller than the full display / projection. It's basically a smaller floating image in the middle of the projection with black surrounding the top, bottom and left/right. I tested this on a TV as well as an older computer monitor and it's the same issue. However, Netflix content (and I'm sure other media content) are recognized and displayed in full resolution - fully filling up the space much nicer.

I'm not 100% certain if this issue is due to Apple's "mirror" display that doesn't allow any adjustments to recognize the target device's display resolution or a software / app issue that could potentially be fixed from SkyTrak. I'll play with the projector display settings the next time I have access to it. From an initial assessment, I wasn't able to zoom in further or stretch the projected image.

    Greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

Yea that one of the negatives (maybe) of the IPAD is the 4:3 ratio. Movie content (Netflix, prime, hulu) will display on the IPAD as 16:9. Those guys have a separate mechanism for displaying video.

The fixed 4:3 is mainly due to the shape and size of the IPAD. One of the reasons I purchased a gaming laptop and gave the IPAD to my kid.

I believe some projectors can zoom the picture and this might fill up the screen a little bit.

Thanks for the input. I'll try playing with the projector next time I get access.

What specs do you have on your gaming laptop? I'm holding out for a good deal <$800.

Cool - $699 seems like a great deal. Are you able to run TGC at 1080 resolution?

Will PM you a picture, but yes it’s 1080 and runs at 60 FPS.

Thank you! Looks great. So tempting to splurge and get all this stuff - but living in California and being able to play year-round makes the purchase seem more unnecessary. At least that's what I'll keep telling myself until I see a great deal on a gaming laptop, projector, TGC 2019 comes out,.....

I've used the Apple Lightning to HDMI adapter with my iPhone and it displays as 16:9 so maybe use an iPhone if you have access to one ?

      Ah, cool - makes sense!

Unfortunately for me I have a Pixel 2 XL which looks like it does NOT support alt mode (secondary display) through the USB C port.

If your just using the skytrak app. The laptop reqs aren't as demanding. My work laptop will run the app faster than the IPAD.

Cool - good to know. I have a fairly powerful work computer, but it's a Mac.
Working...
