Club fitting mode for SkyTrak?

Hi All,

I finally got my SkyTrak and Net Return all set up on my rooftop balcony and I am very pleased with the setup. I had originally thought I might spend most of my time actually using this at the driving range but I haven't taken it to the range since I got everything set up for my house (I did take it to the range when I first got the SkyTrak in order to confirm the accuracy of distances). I have really enjoyed the game improvement settings of bag mapping and wedge matrix (I haven't used the skills assessment yet).

One thing I am wondering about is whether or not there is a setting or a way to easily do a club fitting. I have a driver with Surefit hosel and weight technology and I was wondering if there was an easy way to compare the different settings with SkyTrak. I have done the practice round with the different settings and exported the results, but it would be nice if there were some kind of function like bag mapping where you could customize the club and settings (it seems that currently, you can only use generic settings such as driver, 3W, 5W, etc.). This would also be a really good feature to compare shafts and different clubs as well.

Does anyone know if there is a convenient way to do this or if this is something on the horizon?

Is there still the driver 1 2 3 settings? I think then you can paint each tracer different colors.

I haven't seen different driver settings, but might be missing something. I was really thinking something more like the bag mapping function where you can really compare the different club settings, create a report, etc. That would be a really good way to compare clubs, club settings, shafts, etc.

You used to be able to do club compare. I think you select driver and it names it like driver 2 or something. Been a while since i had my skytrak,

You can still do the club compare in a practice session. I did it to compare a bunch of golf balls. I’m not sure you can rename or save the Driver 2, 3, 4 etc so it’s not going to work over multiple sessions but unless I’m missing what the original poster is striving for the feature is there.

Hi Gresh12, I just re-read your post and did notice the "Club Compare" function. I haven't had a chance to test it out yet (will do over the weekend), but this sort of looks like what I am looking for. I will be interested to see what the report looks like. I would really like to try various settings on my driver to see what gives me the best results. Will report back after I give it a try. I still think having the ability to set custom names for clubs or settings and doing this in a bag mapping would be best because you can save presets. I guess one option would be to save a preset and call each club setting as driver, 2 wood, 3 wood, etc. I may give both of these options a try and see how the reports look.

Hi All, quick update on this. I realized that Skills Assessment mode is probably the best way to do a direct comparison as it gives you all of the stats as well as the graphics/dispersion, etc. I did this to test out different balls with the same club by setting the target (say 230 yards) with the Driver and selected x number of targets. Then I could select how many swings I wanted to take and how many I wanted to use for the numbers. This could work the same way for club fitting as well. I may give this a go when I have some time.

The club comparison mentioned earlier should provide what you're looking for. You can display both the flight paths and dispersion circles for each "club". I used that function when testing new balls or new/different clubs. I prefer the club comparison tool over the skills assessment since you don't need to set any sort of parameters, just add a new club (+) and continue hitting. You can then use the session review to see the top down view of distance and dispersion.

I actually like the skills assessment since you can export everything, including the graphics. With the club comparison, at least what I exported, I only got the numbers. With skills assessment, when I export, I get the graphics as well as all of the numbers. Also, with the skills assessment, I kind of like to be hitting towards some specific target and one of the additional numbers that you get is "distance from target". Additionally, the skills assessment gives a "dynamic handicap" number which, I don't know how that is calculated, but it does give an additional number to look at and compare.

Within the skills assessment, I did a ball comparison of 7 different balls and 6 different shots (20-yard pitch with 60 degrees wedge, 55-yard shot with 60 degrees wedge, 75 yard shot with 56 degrees wedge, 100 yard shot with PW, 150 with 7 iron and 225 yard with driver. Then I looked at the numbers that I felt were important for each shot (e.g., higher backspin with wedges, lower backspin with driver, lower sidespin, lower ball dispersion, dynamic handicap, distance from target, etc.) and ranked every ball from 1-7. In the end, I totaled up all of the scores and assmed that the ball with the lowest score was the one that was the best fit for me. Turned out the Titleist ProV1, and Callaway Chrome Soft tied for first with the ProV1x coming in behind in 3rd. I then went for putting and feel to ultimately decide what ball I was going to go with (ProV1).

I am sure that if I went for a proper ball fitting, they might be looking at different variables and parameters and come out with a different conclusion, but I don't have easy access to a ball fitter and I figuerd this is something that I could do at home and with my SkyTrak.
