When I first started using my skytrak, I noticed the ball was going left a lot on me. (I'm left handed) Once I realized there was an alignment option, I turned it on and noticed to get the two red lasers straight at my target, I have to turn the skytrak left a bit. Does anyone else have this issue? I have the metal case for it.

The alignment dots are known to not be accurate. Putting an alignment rod on the FMJ is also not great because the case may not be square or the unit may not be square on the case. I would say dont get too caught up in trying to get everything perfectly measured out. Pick a spot and mark it by either putting tape on the floor or hanging a string. Start by hitting short chips/pitches that are flying over/hitting your mark. Rotate the unit until you see straight shots. Next hit a few left and a few right. Check and see if they go left/right. The unit may not look perfectly square to your hitting position. But it is aligned. This is the fastest and easiest way to go about it.
If it not looking square really bothers you, try and take it out the FMJ.

Great advice here. I’d add that using a strip of blue painters tape on the floor extending from pad to screen serves a dual-purpose of training you to use an intermediate point for on-course alignment, if you’re so inclined.
The only caveat is that on-course, your target will look to be in a much different position when you turn your head, since it’s only 8-10 feet away, so don’t get too used to that perspective.
I have the best success with using an intermediate point 2-3 feet in front of the ball, and trusting it for both sim and on the course.

I'm in the same boat as you, OP. I'm right handed and noticed for the first few weeks that the ball always seemed to skew left and it was close to impossible to hit a fade. Then tried shifting the angle of the case/box a little inward and now the machine reads far more accurately.
Also, on other thing to think about is whether the light is hitting the machine/laser at an angle or coming far more from a particular direction. That can cause a right or left misread.

In the same boat OP. I Guess we just live with what should be considered a defective unit. We should be parellel to the unit but seems like most of us have to have the unit pointing in a different direction in order for it to read properly.
I’m planning to send mine in while it’s still under warranty.-KillaCale8

It can tell that you are frustrated by this, but if you can learn to live with the case not being perfectly parallel, you may well have a fully functioning unit, and can enjoy some good sim golf instead of returning it or waiting for another unit that may well have the same issue.
You are probably tired of me saying this, but it is the internals of the ST you want to be aligned, not the external case. The need to calibrate exists in everything that requires precision alignment. Rifles come with adjustable sights for a reason. With ST, the only calibration option a user has is turning the case. Externally, it may look slightly offline to the eye, but the internals will be perfectly aligned, and all measurements (ball speed, spin etc.) will be totally accurate.
When I first got mine, I was out in the garage with laser levelers, t squares, chalk, and I was absolutely p*ssed that I couldn't get the unit to line up. Thought about sending it back, but I let go of my inner scientist and calibrated it trial and error. Very unscientific, but as it turns out very accurate. Like I posted earlier, my average offline for the past 100 shots (mix of whole bag, lob wedge to driver) was 0.85 yards left. My unit is deadly accurate overall, in every regard.
And if you haven't, you really really should try it outside of the FMJ.Last edited by Morini; 04-28-2019, 03:55 PM.

Morini not at all! It makes sense, and you’re probably right. The more I think and look at everything and pay closer attention to what’s happening as well as reading others comments... it’s as if the +/- tolerance is skewed to be - more often than +. I’ve never seen a shot that starts left be calculated as starting right. But every shot that I see start right either says right or ends up showing left. I haven’t seen the opposite.
This could also be just the way it’s aligned. I’ll take it out of the case sometime this week and check.

This probably goes without saying, but don't have your drunken non-golfing buddies come over and hit shots while it is out of the case. I don't want that on my conscience. Seriously though, 80 degree shanks and toe hits are extremely rare, but no need to take risks. Chipping is fine for checking alignment.

Looking down at the skytrak in its metal case, I can see that it's not perfectly parallel with the metal case. It's closed a bit and thats probably why I have to slightly open it. I'm assuming the screw holes are off a bit. I will try it out of the case and see how I make out. Thanks for all the help and tips!

I'll have to check mine out, I can't imagine why this would be but stranger things have happened.Originally posted by chrispj09 View PostLooking down at the skytrak in its metal case, I can see that it's not perfectly parallel with the metal case. You might want to try the alignment without the case, and then hit a few balls (or Almost Golf Balls). For two years, I was afraid to do this, but now, thanks to the Skytrak, my swing is consistent enough that I would give it a brief test. It could just as well be that the cases are the culprit.

Currently, there doesn’t seem to be a fool proof way. I’ve done laser, alignment sticks, measuring etc. the only way I was able to get correct readings was to just hit balls and adjust as needed. It’s super annoying but that’s what we get at this price point. I feel like my unit is not square within the internals so it points slightly left in order to get it aligned. Good luck

I bought this laser level on Amazon. Does a good job. I also put a piece of tape on the screen.
