After testing 1.8 for about an hour today I find the spin rate and distances to be a bit better but it's still a really clunky app, seems slower to register shots, my history has been wiped and it still refuses to sync with the 360 server.
I'm also hoping this time next week ( the PG show is next week ) we will know what the official announcement of a sim partner will be.
Guys, I will be in Orlando all week starting Monday and attending both the demo day at Orange National and the show on Wednesday. I will stop by both the skygolf and the E6 booths and get an update as to a timeline for a release. I have to say I am not that excited about the WGT integration although it may be a far less expensive alternative to actual sim software you would have to buy or pay a monthly fee for.
I had similar findings based on an hour or so this evening. For me, I was pleased to see my wedges and 9 iron seem correct, but now I'm carrying 7 irons and 6 irons really far. I plugged some numbers into flightscope's optimizer. It used to be quite comparable to skytrak's output, but now is way off for the 6 and 7 irons I hit this evening. I was just curious and I raised elevation to 1000 and temp to 80deg in the Skytrak settings to match my typical playing conditions here in GA. Result: 210 yd 6 irons on the fly... WAY out of the realm of possibility for me, especially when flightscope trajectory optimizer says 190 when I put in 1000 ft elevation.
As an update to the above RE: v1.8 software:
I hit a lot of 7 and 8 irons tonight and plugged several random shots into flightscope trajectory optimizer to check for carry correlation. Some shots were within 1-3 yards predicted carry, and others were 10+ yards longer on the skytrak than the flightscope webapp. It seemed like my 8 iron shots correlated poorly, and my 7 iron shots were pretty good. So that leads me to believe it has something to do with the spin algorithm they implemented. Maybe my 7 iron spins below the spin "breakpoint" in the v1.8 algorithm, but my 8 iron spins above it.
As a comparison point-- prior to the v1.8 update, every 4-8 iron shot I had entered into flightscope was always really close to skytrak's predicted carry. I'm sure SkyTrak will get it all sorted out in the near future.

Have you considered that you might actually have nearly identical lofts on both your 7 and 8 iron?
Same issue here for the 1.8. The numbers for 6-8 Iron are skewed, even compared to flightscope trap. Here's a quick pic i made this morning showing about a 10 yard difference now in the mid irons when you hit some spin/launch point?
I keep observing the similar results. I hit wedge though 7 iron this morning. Let me explain focusing on the ball speed. I hit from 25 mph to 113 mph. When the ball speed is below 70mph, Skytrak's carry distance is almost identical to Optimal Flight and Flightscope Trajectory Optimizer. But, from 70 to 113 mph, Skytrak's carry distance is 4-10 yards longer in a consistent manner when compared to OF and FTO.
I have a few questions about ball and skytrak placement . For you low handicappers have you noticed a difference if you move the ball around slightly. Is the ball supposed to be right on top of the laser dot or is there an acceptable diameter the ball can be placed around the dot. When placing the ball on a tee should the dot be on the ball or at the base of the tee. Lastly, I know the skytrak needs to be level however does the base of it need to be the same height as the mat. Example if you have the ultra monster turf or CCE mat which are almost 2" thick can the skytrak be on the ground or should you elevate it approximately 2" so the base is even with the top of the hitting mat. Thanks.
Has anyone made changes to the elevation to see if it changes the shot distances? I tried moving them any where from +800 to -500 ft, and the ball seemed to go the same distance IMO.By same distance I mean 20-25yards longer than they should. I didnt play with the temp settings yet, but I get the feeling that these new options are not actually having any affect on the ball flight. The only way I could get my distances back in line was to set the wind to blow 10-15 MPH into me.
If anyone has 1.7 can you try the following? I have an ipad 4 and an Ipad air and would like to put 1.7 on one of them to compare. What if I don’t have a backup? You can ask any of your friends who *might* have a backup of the app in its older version. Obviously, you cannot sync your iPhone/iPad on their computer so you can simply copy the app. To do this (on your friend’s computer):
Click on “Apps” section in iTunes
Find the app and right-click → Show in Windows Explorer
You’ll find the .ipa file. Copy this to your system.
Once done, you just have to drag-n-drop this .ipa file on your device in iTunes.
Can anyone send me the ipa file of 1.7 version? I really would appreciate it. I wish to do a side-by-side comparision of 1.7 and 1.8.

I think in real life, 6000 feet adds about 10% to yardage. So to see any change you might need to be 2000 and up and then 2000 might only be a 2% increase.

Last night I thought my LAs were being affected by the unit height in relation to the mat I have (1-1/2" turf"). I leveled it completely and saw no discernible change. Although the difference before and after was only 3/4" in height.

I think this is right, I recall hearing that 4,500 feet above sea level has about a 7% difference.

I don't think i understand. I don't think it should matter for this comparison, right? I'm plugging in launch data into the optimizer, and the launch monitor doesn't care what loft the club is.
