Yep there are certainly ways they can combat it, however there would be many different ways to obtain the data and some of them may be unfeasible for them to try to avoid.Originally posted by aja View Post
The real issue is, is there any interface data available to be used to integrate with another company's software. As I understand it, the SDK is short for "software developer kit" or something like that. Dennis of ProTee explained it quite simply - if the device puts out human readable (understandable) output - then it can be tailored to be compatible with ProTee software. If the device's output is "proprietary" - that is, can't be understood by anyone else, you are SOL! Without specific knowledge or "reverse engineering" you aren't going to "hijack" anyone else's software.
I take it online multiplayer game developers are far more skilled then the developers working at SkyTrak and yet every game seems to fail to stop hackers from having their way with their software.

Almost!
The package came with only one camera. But, I'll admit that I like the price that I got it at in the end.
On e-bay, the price has been trending down recently. Don't think it will go much lower since soon TGC will be part of the package.

Thanks! I spent almost a whole year "on the fence", but I'm pleased that i've come to this decision.Originally posted by Bubba22 View PostCongrats Aja. You made a good choice.
Now just awaiting delivery, and for sure I'll be looking for tips and help from yourself and Zmax with ironing out install issues.
Cheers!

I was holding out with hope that the skytrak would be a good option for a launch monitor. I was primarily interested in just a LM so I could work on my game over the winter and not subsidize the golf ranges so much (~$500/year). The choice of the Apple os platform was disappointing - I run android, windows, and Linux systems in my house and they pick the one OS I'd never buy of my own choice (overly costly, predatory profiting off others through the app store, transaction taxing profit model, just an evil company).
Then I learn that skytrak "improvement package" is a 1 year license at $99 - following the skycaddie subscription based model (bought an original uPro because of no subscription fee). So, bad Os choice, and subscription based software model - that's two strikes and that is enough to make the skytrak unappealing even at its reduced pre-order price. I'm sitting on the fence to see if they ever get decent PC based software (overpriced e6 can kiss off) and what other ways they find to make the seemingly low initial price a way to gouge you over time.

I didn't know was the case. This makes no sense. But then again....Originally posted by northgolf View PostThen I learn that skytrak "improvement package" is a 1 year license at $99 - following the skycaddie subscription based model (bought an original uPro because of no subscription fee).

I recall seeing something that said the subscription was not needed, but that by buying the subscription it allowed more options. I think this was in the description for the add on within their website. Thus, the subscription seems to be an added feature.Originally posted by Smacc View PostNothing I saw when I purchased had anything about a subscription. Just was a one time fee.

I see the $99 advance game improvement and challenge package but it doesn't say anywhere that it is a yearly fee? Just says you get more options and games with the current software and the ability to play full courses later.
"Adds significantly more game improvement features, challenges and progress tracking to make you better and have more fun. This package also opens the door to many optional features in development that are coming soon, such as ability to play some of the best courses in the world in 3D. "
Again who knows haha. Maybe I'm missing something.

It'll be interesting once I get up and running! I'm in a different time zone - Eastern Europe. So who knows whose schedule I will be able to match up with!
Major issue is to get up and running so I can get some practice in before my big trip to Myrtle Beach in February. I'm still building my sim room, and there's a long way to go.
No worries - I've "seen the light" and my future is Protee!

I have been looking through many threads, but this is the first post for me, so hope this is the right page.
I had been looking at the Skytrak. Reading between the lines I am hoping there will be a new LM option next year that will work with TGC, which looks amazing. Sure this is obvious to many, but is there a chance that there will be an option to use a LM and TGC without the need for a ProTee base? I can play golf all year round here but we only have a hitting net (nowhere to watch ball flight other than the course - rounds are expensive). I have a garage with a net set up and my ideal scenario was to have a portable device (indoor and outdoor) that may also connect with TGC. I used to be a 2 h'cap (now a 4) and can still shoot low rounds but my bad rounds can now be over 80. I need a better idea of ball flight when I am practicing (club path would be great too!). Sure I am missing some facts here, so any information would be great.
