I feel the same. I have my Skytrak in my basement which is the farthest from my wifi router and the wifi bandwidth is not that great. When I used Skytrak via home wifi, Skytrak froze several times (one red, two green lights but doing nothing), but when I used the direct connection it seemed to work more flawlessly.

    • Thanks. Wasn't sure if it looked correct. Seemed the number was less than it should be. Maybe it will improve once they release their update fixing their calculations with spin rate.

      • Anyone make a DIY protective shield or anything? I'm sure a couple of my buddies will want to give it a shot but not all of their swings can be trusted if you know what I mean. What portions of the skytrak need to be exposed for it to work?

I was thinking of fabricating my own out of plexiglass using a laser cutting machine.

I was going to use the pictures and pdf files from the shield available from the japanese skytrak site to figure out the dimensions:

Leveling part works great, but the impact resistant polycarbonate so far is a failure as the unit won't register shots looking through it. It surprised me since the polycarbonate is rated very well for IR transmission. I'm thinking it might just be because the poly is partially reflecting the laser beam so I dont get hit detection. I'm going to mill out a hole for the laser to shine through and see if thats better.

If that fails, I'll try to mill out pockets for the lens elements. However its really hard to see through that black plastic as I'm pretty sure its a product thats design to obscure visible light and pass IR which the flash uses. Something like this. http://www.eplastics.com/Plexiglass_...d_Transmitting. That said, I think we might be able to see through that plastic and see what the lens elements look like by shining a really bright IR led onto it and taking a picture with a digital camera as the sensors are typically sensitive to the IR spectrum. Or at least its worth a shot, I'm curious just what it looks like behind that black plastic shield. Hopefully the elements are much smaller than that plastic strip.

Its kind of a bummer but if we actually have to expose that entire strip, the strip is the same height as the diameter of a golf ball. doh

Honestly, I think cutting a hole for the laser might do it.

            • Would just a clear piece of plexi allow the laser/camera to shine through?

              • FYI that sheet in the image above is clear polycarbonate. I just haven't removed the protective film in that picture

Yep just realized that *forehead smack

Interested to hear your results after modding it with the hole.

That's a really nice setup you've constructed there!

Funny, I was just looking at the eplastics site this morning to look at potential materials. I was looking to see if IR transmitting glass was part of one of the sample packs, but unfortunately it wasn't. Perhaps I'll inquire. That particular sheet only comes in max of 1/8" thickness, maybe that's not enough to matter anyway...

I've never shot a hole in one but with my luck, I bet I have a higher chance of someday accidently sending a golf ball just absolutely-dead-center-perfect into that exposed strip....

                        • Milled out a pocket for the laser to shine through and it still doesn't work. I actually hadn't seen this link http://www.sky-trak.com/products/SKYTRAK-KIT which shows that they just cut a window as well. I'm gonna go ahead and mill out the entire window pocket I guess.

                          • I tried to measure how much of exposure of the window is needed and here is the result.

With that opening, SkyTrak captured every shot. I tested with a wedge and 7 iron (I am right handed). I can't try longer clubs because of the low height of my basement. I guess that a driver shot might need more exposure on the left since a ball travels more. I used a piece of paper shown above and I started with a smaller opening and I cut off more and more until SkyTrak started capturing shots.
I am not capable of making a fancy shield, but I am going to find something to place in front of Skytrak for a little bit of peace of mind.

                            • I haven't touched the skytrak in a few days and today I turned it on and can't seem to get it to connect. It's solid green/yellow/red which means it's trying to connect to the tablet but the ipad air2 won't connect. I've tried going to my wifi setup but can't find the skytrak listed. this is highly frustrating. I figured maybe I need to charge it, idk.

If I still can't connect by tonight it's going back tomorrow. I don't want to spend my time in front of a computer instead of hitting balls when I have free time. It shouldn't be this difficult. I have a house full of electronics connected to the internet, I don't think it's me.

                              *updated*
After re-installing the app on my ipad it connected again. I'm not sure what had happened.
I'll give it a go again.
