Did they say what might have caused the motherboard failure? Sucks that it was 25% of the normal cost, that's not cheap by any means.

Agree with all above... Get the Case! You may not hit it but if you have friends over, especially newbies... They can and will hit it. I had the plastic case on mine and just had to send it in for a new motherboard repair and housing... $519.00 plus shipping.

I believe that mikemcd22 mentioned that in an earlier post. It was sent in for false low battery issues, but inspection indicated damaged motherboard. It appears a ball strike years earlier did damage that didn't affect the unit for some time.

I have plastic case. It took one ball from toe hit. Enough to knock the unit over, but no apparent internal damage ... whew. In hindsight, should have gotten the metal case. I honestly didn't think it would ever happen, but it did.

Unfortunately all they said (through a "do not reply to this email, email) was that the motherboard and housing needed to be replaced. I suspect that the mount or maybe one of the corners broke loose from the impact. They apparently have various "levels" of repair that get a flat rate (in this case, $519.00) called (on hold for ever) and asked to speak with the (or a) tech working on it but basically got the call center. Interestingly, when I got the unit back, the invoice said "motherboard repaired" not replaced. Bottom line: it works.

Received the case today. Nice quality, looks good and sturdy. Did not get a template for placement of the bubble thing. I just put on the top middle on the ST.

I'll be the dissenting opinion. Unless you need an easy way to level the unit (using it in different spots often, etc) or you have very suspect golfers using it, I wouldn't get the case. I can't even fathom the kind of mishit you'd have to have to actually hit the skytrak with a ball. I'm no pro golfer (about a 7-10) handicap, I've hit shanks, blades toes, you name it and not even come close to hitting the skytrak.

i couldn’t ever imagine hitting it either until while making a casual practice swing the ball glanced off the tip of the club hitting the unit. Yes I have the FMJ thankfully.
