  • Computer needs to minimize shot delay only for Skytrak app ?

    Hello all,

I was wondering what was the specs for minimize the shot delay in Skytrak app. I know what is the best for Skytrak + TGC but I dont know if we can save $ with a config only for Skytrak practice range.

Is only a CPU matter or does the GPU is important too ?

    Thank you for your help.

Minimize it to what? It will never go away, i think the best time is about 2.5 secs so if you are close to that, you are already there.

Yes sorry for the missunderstood, I know the shot delay will not be under 2 - 2.5 secs.
I have 3 Skytrak with TGC with that short delay. My question is for a friend who just want Skytrak app, not simulation software. I am just asking what computer requirement are needed to have the best shot delay (and if the video card is important ?)

I believe the minimum delay is around 2 seconds. This is the time required to send the photos to the computer/device, and the fastest computer in the world won't be any quicker. Don't quote me, but I am fairly sure that any reasonably modern PC will have very close to minimum time delay. You don't need a gaming computer or fancy GPU. Any newer gen ipad will have similar delay.

Just to clear this up, it's not the transfer of data that takes the time - it's the image processing on the computer/iPad before we can fly the ball. So USB 3.0 wouldn't really make any difference. There are checks and rechecks in place for accuracy, hence why we can't just be instantaneous.
That fits with my experience that the faster the machine running the app, the shorter the shot delay. I've seen some older iPads and Android tablets take 8-10 seconds.

Interesting. There is ample anecdotal evidence of lower limit around 2 sec. Is there anyone out there with extreme performance PC who are experiencing sub 2 second delay. If it was purely image processing, delay should drop linearly with CPU performance ... but it doesn't. So clearly a bottle neck somewhere. I'm sticking with time it takes ST to offload images.

Iss a network thing you will never get better than 2 second delay. I have a 32core gaming rig....

                Thanks for the reply

So you all agree its just a matter of CPU for the Skytrak software. Need to figure out what is the CPU to get the less shot delay ...

No it will never be faster than 2 seconds

My guess is that you will get two seconds with any reasonably modern PC, whether a $500 or $5000. Perhaps the $5000 will be 2.0 seconds and the $500 one will be 2.1 seconds. I could be wrong, so if anyone out there has data, it would be much appreciated.

I first used a cheap android table that had an older snapdragon processor. At least 10 seconds, sometimes much longer. Went to new ipad (2017), and it went down to under 3 seconds, probably closer to 2. Now that I have to retype login info every time, i switched to older notebook. It is about 2 seconds as well.

SkyTrak is four year-old technology, so it really doesn't need much in regards to where compute tech is today. These topics has been discussed ad nauseum (minimizing shot delay and maximizing ST performance on a PC) and I'd recommend you follow the recommendations in this thread (https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...hat-runs-great) as a minimum standard. If you buy more than this all you are getting is a bit of 'future-proofing'.

I believe that thread is about TGC. The OP was wondering about CPU requirements for ST range ... and they are much lower than TGC.

You are correct. I was just suggesting using that as a good reference point.

My question was what we need just for skytrak app, not TGC which has been talked a lot as you mention ;-) But I guess I will follow all recomendation here with a new gen cpu and it should be enough to get the shortest shot delay. Tahnk you all !
