  • tgc2019 and skytrak - config/read tips?

Finally got it setup and running on my AlienWare box with Nvdia 1080 card. Still in debug mode myself in terms of setup. I have a fiberbuilt 4x7 station hitting into a net return net right now . Loaded up my local course that was available in Lidar and it looks very good. Only had a 6 iron and 8 iron in the sim area and a putter. Played the first two holes pretty good. Then get to third hole and my approach goes in sand. so I try to hit it out with my 8i and reach my first problem. I could not for the life of me get this shot to register, the red laser just stayed on. Even if I then try to hit a full shot and red light fully on. In short, hit about 20 shots all varying degrees of around the red light, but nothing registered. I shut it down for the night when the wife said the kids could hear all the shots. It was kind of disappointing to see it behave this way. my option to move on was basically take an 11 on the hole and concede it.

Any config/tips suggestions I might have missed?

That’s definitely not normal. Probably just a hardware hiccup. Out of the dozens of times I’ve used mine, something like that happened maybe once. Usually the only no reads I get are when I really botch a shot. Just make sure the skytrak is raised to the height of the hitting mat. Probably a shut down and restart would solve the problem.

If it happens in-game you can hit the windows key and D at the same time shrinking the window and allowing you to get to your desktop. Move over to the system tray and close out the Skytrack interface app. You can relaunch the Skytrak TGC app and reconnect Skytrak without restarting TGC. Once it reconnects just open TGC window and resume hitting. It happens to me once in a while in TGC but never in the Skytrak app.

thanks for the feedback and tips. I tried again today and similar thing exactly. would not recognize a shot out fo the bunker. I conceded the hole again and kept on going. One thing I did notice is when it went into the bunker, I saw notification that Skytrak was in putting mode? Why would it be in putting mode in the bunker?

EDIT_ i guess i can rewind the shot as well. not a point about the score, more about just being able to play. I rarely if ever get any missed shots on the skytrak app with Ipad connected wifi. So I wasn't expecting to see this gap using the sim with a USB cable connected.

If it's in putting mode, you can get out by changing the club.

You can play tgc2019 over wifi as well. You don’t need to use usb cable. I know the TGC interface says to connect via usb, but as long as the skytrak and computer are connected to same wifi network, just click “connect box” and it should work.

Like wbond says if it goes into putting mode like that again just press z or x to change clubs and get it out of putting mode.

I finally got to play a full 18 holes last night. I gave up on putting for now. I basically set it to 1 put within 1 yard and 2 putt otherwise.it would be nice to get a 3putt option if over 40', but anyway.

What I like so far is ability to play my local course that someone built with Lidar. It's very good overall. I can't swing the driver inside, so I play the white tee's to compensate for the loss of driving with a 3H vs. Driver. During the round:

1- The skytrak - USB driver just died, Windows said did not recognize device. switched to wireless. connected ok but...
2- Randomly finish hole and then it completely stopped reading shots either at end of hole or on second shots this happened 3X. All the while the skytrak had three green lights and the laser was on the whole time.
3- Shut off the Skytrak 3x and reboot it just to get it to reconnect.

This interruption and interface issues frankly sucks. I never had anywhere near this level of stoppage on the ipad/skytrak native app and always wondered what people were talking about the no reads and mis-reads. But clearly this application interface leaves a lot to be desired. If there are any tuning tips or anything else to consider would love to hear it. Would be nice to just play through without worrying about if the shot would register or not... Oh well at least get to golf indoors.

If you are using wifi don't use 5g with skytrak. The most reliable connection, in my opinion, is the direct connect method where you use your wireless to connect to Skytrak's own network then use a wired ethernet connection to your PC for internet
          .

Something’s not right with your connection. Make sure the skytrak native app is closed on your pc and turn off your iPad or disconnect it from your wifi. Perhaps your skytrak is connecting to your iPad app. When my skytrak disconnects during play, the laser goes off and the 2nd light turns yellow. I then just have to minimize TGC and reconnect the box in the interface.

If the course you built switches you to putting mode in bunkers causing any actual shots to not be registered I would guess that the course was built incorrectly and the bunkers are mapped as greens... sounds like a course problem rather than a Skytrak issue. Good luck with a fix.

I've seen the same behaviour with TGC official courses, so it does not seem to be this particularly.

The frustration continues. Random locks and constant walk over to the keyboard to reset the interface really gets annoying. It happens at random times and there is no pattern. Whether I am wireless or direct connected, it will randomly stop being able to read a shot.

I wonder if it would help to use a VPN if you aren't currently. It seems like it could be an internet connection issue.

on whim, I took the skytrak out of the Skytrak FMJ and played a round last night. No issues. Missed like 1-2 shots which is easy to get past. It would be hard to believe this is a problem as I don't have the level of issues in the Skytrak native app, but it was a much better overall experience.

I also tried the driver for the first time. On a Trackman, my swing speed was around 110-112. On Skytrak it is about 98-99mph. I'm wondering if that is part of me holding back a bit being indoors or if in fact the Skytrak just reads a little slower. I'll take it to the range in the Spring and validate it. Skytrak does pick up my 6i swing speed correctly at 92-93mph which is what it was on Trackman ~94 if I recall.

How do the ball speeds compare on your driver? SkyTrak isn’t measuring swing speed so it’s not a great benchmark.

At your swing speed you may find Skytrak lags a bit on ball speed as there are reports of this above 150 mph. Mine seems accurate in the 150s but I top out at 160 on Trackman so I’m not the best benchmark for when it drops off.
