After getting to a senior sales person at Sky Golf on the premise that I am looking to buy in bulk for a facility, I was told that the folks over there have been told to expect in weeks not months. was also convincingly reassured of financial viability and the fact that there are no new plans for hardware upgrades any time soon. Take that all with a grain of salt but thats's the word. Topook some coaxing so not sure that was off a script.

Hi Oscar - I just want to make sure I understand you correctly, as your message was a bit hard to follow. SkyTrak will be releasing a software update within the next few weeks? Are you sure the sales person wasn't gassing you up to ensure that you would make the bulk purchase?Last edited by hype03; 02-11-2020, 08:37 PM.

I don't understand why they are being so cryptic and secretive with this "supposed update". It's a bit odd. I would expect something like this from NASA, but not a consumer tech company.

They're probably not quite ready to release it and don't want to spend all of their time fielding "when are you going to release it" questions...

I hear ya, but they have already been being hit with those questions for the past year. Even the guys at GarageGolf are frustrated. I'm going to stay patient, I just wish there was a bit more transparency is all. For example, in responding to KC's twitter question.. why not make that statement publicly? Seems like you could kill a lot of birds with one stone and announce it publicly opposed to sending a DM to one user. Just my opinion.

I agree, it all seems a little fishy. I’ve been on the fence about buying one of these units for the past few months. Once I finally decided to pull the trigger, I started seeing posts about all of the update shenanigans.
The software portion doesn’t really bother me. What concerns me is potentially paying full price for this unit only for them to either significantly discount it, or release a 2.0 unit shortly after. I don’t like the idea of getting hosed like that.

At its price point the SkyTrak works very nicely. The software works fine for me, I've heard that REALLY big hitters/club/ball speeds have some issues. I'd buy it again with the knowledge I have now. I doubt they'll have a new hardware release, a software update could happen but I don't see any pressing need for even that for my swing speed. The new unit/software is just speculation on my part, but I follow SkyTrak fairly closely on this and other forums.

I agree with you! I would buy it again with all of the knowledge I know now. I just recently purchased my ST second hand about a month ago and have had not one complaint. With this being my first LM, I wanted something that was more accurate than the optishot but wanted to be budget friendly as this was my first one. All in all, it is exactly what I need and at some point if I feel the need, I now have a baseline on what I would like to see from a potential upgrade unit.

I'm confident there is no new SkyTrak hardware on the horizon.

I didn't even think about the fact that they could be coming out with another unit. Part of me thinks that isn't likely since the system can be greatly improved/enhanced with simple software upgrades (adding a free course package, additional features to the range, etc.). However, with the units now hitting the secondary market more frequently, that could be incentive enough to roll out another unit to keep up hardware sales.

I don't think the actual system can be improved much in terms of measuring ball data. In fact the unit hasn't been flashed in years. All updates have been in the tablet/PC end. This time there will be flash update to hopefully improve reads for high ball speeds.Part of me thinks that isn't likely since the system can be greatly improved/enhanced with simple software upgrades (adding a free course package, additional features to the range, etc.)
The technology behind the ST is quite cheap and simple, and it would relatively easy to refresh the hardware to improve in all areas of weakness. I wonder if the Rapsodo/Skygolf/Skytrak deal is a one off. In other words, Skytrak have indefinite rights to retail the unit, but nothing beyond that. Rapsodo has no incentive to improve hardware, and Skytrak does not have the capability. Rapsodo did develop their own hardware that was recently released. It is more of a Topgolf competitor, but who knows what they have planned next.

To be more clear and for whatever it’s worth, the sales guy I spoke with was a sales guy obviously so can’t be trusted totally but I am confident he was telling me what he was told would happen internally Re update by senior management as opposed to just telling me what he was told he ought to tell potential clients.
