  • Skytrak zero reads

Hey all, I finally purchased my skytrak, used from someone on this site. The unit itself had the RH laser curtain replaced a couple of months ago (it was a 2017 unit) which I was able to independently verify. After some trouble getting the unit to connect in Direct mode to my ipad, I was able to get everything working, or so it seemed.

For the life of me, I have not been able to get a single read shot from the unit, RH or LH. I have tried both direct mode and network mode on both my ipad and my pc. When I hit in most cases, the laser dot disappears momentarily and the top light goes to red, I understand this is supposed to be indicative of a "read" shot. Unfortunately, I am not getting any thing to the skytrak app at all, even though the app and unit show a solid connection.

I have verified the unit is level and tried it in and out of the metal case. I have tried placing the ball all over the place on both the RH and LH sides. I have tried black clubs, white clubs and normal irons. I have tried full shots, chips, putts, etc and no luck. I have been hitting off of my homemade turf mat (cheap turf from Home Depot). I have also tried chipping off of a very dark carpet as well with no luck.

I have reset the skytrak and deleted/redownloaded the skytrack app on my ipad. I have officially run out of ideas, and Skytrak's customer support is off for the weekend so I thought I would try here.

Any suggestions welcome. I have read through many of the posts on the forum about no reads and tried to implement as shown above.

I have decided the only thing worse than being stuck inside (shelter in place) without a golf simulator is being stuck with a golf simulator that isnt working😂

Try Network mode. In Direct mode, the iPad cannot connect to the internet. Shouldn't be an issue, but worth a try.

GungHoGolf Thanks for replying so quick Ron, I really appreciate everything you have added to the skytrak community. I took a stab at replicating your divot action mat and am currently working on the cage set up from your website.

I have tried network mode as well with both my ipad and my pc with still not a single read.

Wow, that's really weird. Try a hard reboot of your iPad if you haven't yet (different from turning it off and back on). Also, make sure you can log in at https://clubsg.skygolf.com/skytrak/dashboard.php with the same account you're logging into the SkyTrak app with.

Beyond that, I'm out of ideas. It's a very strange/rare problem.

Okay my account is good with the link you posted and I just tried the reboot of the ipad and hit a few shots and still no read, but again, the dot disappears momentarily like it was a read. So frustrating. I guess I'll have to wait until Monday to see what Skytrak says. Thanks again for your suggestions Ron.

Just noticed you have both an iPad and a PC. Make sure the SkyTrak app isn't open on both the PC and iPad at the same time - it can only be connected to one device.

To test on the iPad, from the PC make sure you check Task Manager and don't see a SkyTrak process running in the background (kill the process, or just turn off the PC).

To test on the PC, turn the iPad completely off or put it in Airplane mode.

Good suggestion, but still no luck.

It did get me thinking about my network set up though

Okay, so I went into my router to make sure I had my networks correctly named (skytrack prefers 2.4ghz?)

-So I tested in direct mode with my ipad's celluar both on and off
-I tested via network mode with my ipad on the 2.4 ghz network.
-My pc is wired via ethernet for internet directly back to my router, and I have tried direct mode and network mode here, but there is a chance my network mode test on pc was over the 5ghz network before I renamed them.

              None of the above worked.

So what I will still try is:
-PC with wired Ethernet and connecting the skytrack to the 2.4 ghz
-As well as try direct mode via wifi on the pc (no wired connection).
-I will also try connecting via the usb cable as well.

I hope to have something positive to report back Monday from these efforts or from skytrack's customer support.

Good luck! PC via USB mode should be most foolproof.

You said you verified that it is level, but are you making sure that it is even with the hitting surface? The unit being an inch or two above the surface you are hitting from will cause the behavior you are describing.

Celeras I should have clarified better, I have it all on the same mat so it is at the same level. Then I have verified the unit itself is level with an actual leveler as well, (not just the software or the level bubble it comes with)

                    Morini Yep

I ended up getting skytrak on the phone and they think it is a hardware issue and so it has been sent off for review. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
