skytrak metal case needed?

i'm sure people will say the case is there to protect your investment, but has anyone actually ever hit their skytrak with a golf ball?

the foresight simulators have no case, right?

Many, many users have hit their unit with a bad shank or a toed driver. All it takes is one bad shot to break it and destroy it or require repair (if you’re lucky).

I believe gc2 placed in a location less likely to be hit. In any case, the ones at golf town have metal cases.

Mine has been hit exactly once when my daughter toed one I have plastic case. It hit hard enough to knock over, but survived.

I probably should get metal case, but not too concerned as I think the plastic gives some protection. The lens area is not protected.

I'd highly recommend one. While I have not shanked a ball off the case myself, I have had someone else do that. Additionally, when I hit full wedges the ball sometimes comes back far enough off the high impact screen to hit the top of the case.

I consider it essential. Accidents do happen, and a ball striking the unprotected unit is very likely to cause expensive damage.

You may never toe one into your Skytrak, but someone else may. My son-in-law, who’s a beginner, has hit mine twice. First time without the case, most recently with. Fortunately I’m using Qolf balls for now, but will switch over to real balls once my sim is completed. Here’s the metal case I bought on eBay.....

I have never hit mine but I can't think of a good reason not to get one.

I would. Almost didn't buy one....figured I would never hit it. Just got mine set up & my 19 yr son (with 101 mph swing speed) within 3 swings toes one off the driver and smack into it. Would have been an expensive piece of junk.

yeah i just got my skytrak today and that sucker is pretty close to the ball. even seen a few for sale here and there with some golf ball marks on it. guess i'll have to buy a FMJ.

Definitely recommended in my opinion. Since we have had ours installed in Dec. 2019 the SkyTrak unit has been hit 3 times. Without the metal cage I’m sure we would have had damage. Also, I don’t believe SkyTrak’s warranty covers damage to the physical unit. Pretty cheap insurance / protection.

Only knock on the cases is the poor connectivity at times, but definitely peace of mind having it protected just in case....no pun intended.

Couple posts below yours today, is a guy who had his GC2 hit and it cracked it. It had a cover on it. I believe the GC2 cover is not metal like the ST one. Imagine if he had no cover!!. Now picture your Skytrak without a cover.

I had poor connectivity (probably not connectivity but rather misreads) before but have had no issues since I screwed the ST into the case. I had worried that it would be a pain to take it out of the case frequently if I had it screwed in so just had it sitting in the case when I played, however, I seemed to have frequent misreads when not screwed in so thought i would see how it went if I screwed the case in. The misreads have decreased significantly since then. Not sure if that is your issue but you might give it a try if you don't have it screwed in.
