  • Help with software decision for SkyTrak

I recently set up my golf sim. I have the SkyTrak with the GIP. I'm trying to decide which software to add TCG 2019 or E6.
Any thoughts? I have a gaming PC with a higher end graphics card.

I tried them both and ended up going with TGC 2019 because of the volume of courses and the course designer. I am so happy that I went with that decision. When I am not playing the sim, I am really enjoying spending the time designing my home courses. With the ability to use publicly available LiDAR data to get very accurate course details, it is fantastic.

Would you say the big name courses are accurate? I have read some reviews saying that you do not know if you are playing the real X or a version of it. I was also showed how few Scottish courses were on the list last time I looked.

Here's a comparison of the two I recently wrote up: https://gunghogolf.com/articles/tgc2019-vs-e6connect

I started with Skytrak, iPad and WGC. Then, upgraded to a PC and E6. Then, upgraded to TGC2019. Then, upgraded Skytrak to a used GC2. I never looked back at any of the changes, including E6 to TGC2019. I have not tried E6 Connect, and hear it is very good. If I still had the Skytrak, I would want to keep TGC2019. I understand that E6 Connect is now available for Skytrak - that might be a good option also. Regular E6 graphics are terrible - game play is solid. Note: TGC2019 with all of the courses is a massive plus - many of the better ones were created by users on this forum! Hope this helps!

Yes, I would agree with all of those statements above. A good friend of mine who has used both Skytrak and GC2 said it best - "while Skytrak is fun, reasonably accurate and well-worth the cost, the GC2 is actually like playing golf indoors." He and I both found the misreads on Skytrak (chips and putts mostly) and the shot delay to be too distracting over time. Again, Skytrak is a great product and works well especially for the cost - GC2 is just at a level above Skytrak (IMHO) but also costs more so it should be better. Hope this helps.

Very helpful. Hitting on range, delay was non-issue. On sim, quite annoying. Chipping on skytrak is very frustrating. If there was auto-chip, I'd turn it on.

Yes, range delay is not bad -- game play is fairly slow. We found that chipping and putting to be the worst part of Skytrak. Note: I started with the plastic case then switched to metal FMJ case. We hated the metal case - it seemed to increase mis-reads by 25% especially on chips and putts. If you have a metal case, try without it and see if the mis-reads decrease. Still a great unit for the money - never regretted the purchase!
