What's next from SkyTrak?

Hey team!

I've converted two garage bays into a golf simulator with the SkyTrak and a Carl's place setup. It's fantastic, and the skytrak is a great piece of kit. I just can't stand the misreads anymore, it's legit 10-20%+ of swings in my setup ... and frankly, one misread when you hit the exact shot you wanted in game is devastating!

So what is next? What does the team here think would lower the misreads and ideally give me even more data to continue improving my game?

What are you seeing with the misreads? You mean it's reading the shot but giving bad data? Any more details you can describe?

Mis-reads with SkyTrak are very rare. No-reads are more common (maybe 5% normally). Which is it?

Also make sure you have nothing reflective/bright behind you that the cameras may pick up, use a white ball with a clear logo facing the unit on each shot, and play with ball placement (up to 3" behind dot for driver, to 2" in front of dot for lob wedge). When SkyTrak is positioned properly (height and tilt/roll) the red dot should be 11-12" away from the unit.

Yeah I get very few to no misreads. I don’t get many no-reads either. One a session maybe and when I fire it up I tend to go for a few hours.

Only time I seem to get no-reads, is when I am in a rush and forget to place the ball in correct spot with logo facing the camera, For an iron shot, I place the ball about an inch behind the laser and have the logo facing slightly upwards towards the unit. For a driver, I have it teed up pretty good about 2 inches behind laser, and the logo not pointing up so much. For wedges, no more than an inch in front of laser. Putter, 1 inch in front. IF I do this all the time, the only time I get a no read is if I have terrible contact on the ball.

I echo the above, you need to give us the exact detail of what you consider a mis-read. Do you feel it is off in direction? distance? spin?

I'm pretty sure nowadays that my own Skytrak is accurate with ball flight, I know my swing well enough to sense if I'm shutting my face and how much I'm drawing, and the data seems to also match when I purposely cut the ball. Where the ball contacts my hitting screen seems to correlate with what my Skytrak is telling me in terms of direction and launch. The only time I've questioned the data is when I've used it outdoors in sunlight. But I normally use mine in the basement with consistent LED ceiling lights and everything seems to work as it should.
I also follow GungHoGolf's alignment articles religiously, I think those are essential.

I'm not sure what you mean about "getting even more data"... I think what you get in the Skytrak game improvement apps is what you get. If you're looking for club data, then you'll probably need to look elsewhere for hardware.

For me ironically I get very few no-reads similar to above percentages (5%) - even fewer when I use TP5 PIX ball. However it is the only ball I've every had a few mis-reads with (can still count on one hand - but in a golf simulator round not worth the risk on skytrak range its fine I can delete the shot).
Again to be clear:
No-read is I hit a shot and it doesn't register
Mis-read is I hit a lovely flush 7iron and the sim ball sputters off at 45 degree angle at head height...

Never had a “misread” to my knowledge, but have had a few no reads. It seems the no reads happen when I feel I have hit a perfect shot 99% of the time, which is sad because that doesn’t happen very often, lol.

Overall I am quite happy with my Skytrak, but I can say that my machine does not like my 60 degree wedge. My 52 abd 56 are black vokeys and my 60 is brushed nickle or whatever and it just doesnt like reading it. Which isnt a big deal, I just try to flight my 56 in that situation.

I agree though misreads can be quite annoying.
