    SkyTrak v4.0 - Beta 2

    Hi All,

Many thanks for your help and your patience on this. The custom bag issue we discovered (actually going back even to v3.4.2) was much more complicated than we thought and had to be addressed in this release before it grew. While that was being worked on, we took your feedback and reverted the follow ball camera view, reduced the tracer shadow opacity, and a few other fixes and optimizations. Please give this one a go and fingers crossed we can push it live quickly!

    V4.0.2 Release Notes

    - Improved Range Graphics
    - Improved Tracers
    - Improved Camera Views
    - Limited supported characters in Profile Name
    - Restricted Altitude and temperature to realistic values
    - Fixed duplicate club bug in Bag Management
    - Fixed Bag Mapping bug in offline mode
    - Miscellaneous bug fixes and improvements

Seth, thanks. Any chance of adding a multiplier (Handicapper) setting to let use compensate for Indoor Swing Syndrome, or simply ego, that lets us adjust the Carry Distance to match our expected results. Put this multiplier number on the screen for tournament purposes and as a reference. Some have resorted to tweaking the altitude setting to try to accomplish the same thing, but a multiplier would be more overt and more usefful. Thanks

Yes, a "boost" option would be nice. Though I don't think it really matters as much in the range as in TGC2019 which already has boost. But what would be really nice would be "normalization" to account for hitting off mat the way Trackman does for range balls. It could be as simple as just lowering VLA by x degrees for irons and adding y% spin. Or as complex as a custom profile based on club, ball & mat for an individual golfer.

Those are both good suggestions. Regarding a 'boost' feature, my biggest gripe with that is when retailers use it to sell golf clubs. It's also quite hard to find a blanket normalization that covers everything that can result from indoor swing/mat/room/etc. However, the first step towards something like this I believe would be a conversion factor for limited flight balls.

Yes, sadly boost features can be abused. I am sure that altitude is already used this way. The normalization could be an advanced user option that lets users set it by percentage as I mentioned. Then I could quite confidently groove my wedge carry etc. As with Trackman ball normalization, it is not perfect, but far better than nothing.

I really think the benefits of normalization/boost far outweigh any potential misuse. There are not many club sellers using skytrak anyways. If you allowed the user to set parameters, the community would create profiles for limited flight and low spin balls in no time, which would be a great for those who can't hit regular balls in their setups. If this implemented at the API level it may cause some disparity concerns in the sim community, but strange things are already happening. A former skytrak user who is a serious sim player went to GC2 because (among other reasons) , he had evidence indicating GC2 shots stop quicker on TGC2019 greens for identical ball data.

Thanks for the thoughts on boost. I can see how it could be useful for practice. As you mentioned though, there is no way we could apply this at the SDK level because cheating in the sim world would be rampant. I'll throw it around here for practice though.

I’m pretty new to the skytrak software / interface, but this new beta wouldn’t work for me. I installed it, and it wouldn’t find the skytrak which was in network mode. I did the hard reset as per the instructions, connected the pc to the internal wifi, but the software still wouldn’t find it. I also tried usb mode but still would not pick up the device. Eventually I just reinstalled v3 of the software and was able to connect in direct mode right away (then back to network mode once I re-entered the wifi credentials)

Did install the C++ 2012 Redistributable Package that came with the software?

Yea, it actually seemed to require an uninstall of the c++ package then re-install as part of the v4 setup

Oh, I think I know what's happening. Try installing v4.0.2 again. If it still doesn't find a connection, then delete the SkyTrak folder in C:\Users\[current user]\App Data\Local Low. Then reopen the app.

I wouldn't worry about abuse, cheaters are always going to find a way to cheat. The fact that the Boost Factor is shown onscreen should help with that.
If possible, allow separate boost settings for each club, or a setting for irons, metals and driver. A boost function would end most complaints regarding yardage accuracy, and also add validity to practice sessions, bag mapping etc. Seems like it would not be difficult to implement and would add a lot to usability. Thanks.

Can't you already do it with Altitude though. I live and play at 6252 ft. I was a little taken back on my first swings, before I figured it out. It's still a little short, about a club difference. In TGC we play +5% in everything except the wedges and it seems fine for our expected distances, so boost is needed we feel. I haven't tried the range at 9000 ft though. It seems defeating and pointless unless you want to play like BoomBoom though. Hard to know unless you have 2 systems running in parallel though because unlike those TXG guys I'm all over the board and probably have a little INDOOR Syndrome too.

I don’t understand why a boost option would be necessary. If the unit is accurate (which it seems to be) then what’s the rationale for it? A conversion factor for limited flight balls makes sense to me and I think would be a great addition, but I’m struggling to understand the desire for a blanket boost option.

Depending on the ball you use, skytrak give different results ( for example almost, callayway ).
