  • Skytrak protective case static

I am unable to use my Skytrak in its protective case (the metal one from their site) when using USB mode. After a lengthy discussion with three levels or escalation with SkyGolf's customer service, the issue was blamed on static from the protective case.

Note that individually, the case and the USB connection work great (i.e. Case+Network mode is fine and USB without case is fine). So somehow the case is introducing static electricity into the equation. I've tried grounding it, I've tried padding the areas closest to the Skytrak with rubber foam, but never had any success.

Has anyone here figured out how to deal with that?

The most common is electrical tape on cable where it enters the case. It is typically a seasonal issue, and is worst in dry season. I have heard of dehumidifiers, and attempts at a grounding wire. Personally, I'd just try to make network or direct mode work if USB static is bad. Not sure if leaving a USB charging cord (rather than PC connection) will also lead to static build up.

Has anyone found a fix for this issue?

I solved my issue by upgrading to a higher quality power strip for all of the components of my setup. I’ve read that others have had success placing the case on a dryer sheet.

Gotcha… reviving this thread… so used USB the other day… perfect no problems… today dang thing keeps blinking red laser light.. .ugh.. restart, reboot.. trying to change sequence of how I power things up, etc.. all same problem. Switch to direct (sky track wifi) and perfect all shots recorded. Great but then I can’t play internet courses as I’m also wifi to my PC. Yes I have the metal case in garage setup.

So is this the summary of options - anybody recommend one over the other.
A- connect my PC direct Ethernet adapter and then use wifi sky track direct mode? (Seems like most popular)
B- try the electrical tape solution dryer sheet, or upgrade power strip (I don’t even use power strip - directly plugged into outlet in wall)
C- get a usb wifi (does this allow me to have two wifi connections (one for real internet and one for sky track direct mode?)
          D- others?

Just so frustrating when USB works one minute and not the other .. I’ve also tried different usb cables.. shorter etc.

A or C I'd do. When I had a Skytrak I did option C and it worked alot better than using USB

Best solution for sim play is ethernet wired PC and direct mode. Option C does work, but before doing that, why not try network mode?

I am not too sure about all the remedies. May work, may not. And if you are in location with cold winters, USB may work well in a month or two when spring comes.

Did the Ethernet wired and then wifi to skytrak. Played two complete rounds with no issues.. thanks.
