  • does the metal skytrak case require a hole in the mat?

I just got my skytrak this past week, I'm planning on putting together a build post soon. but so far i'm just frustrated with the number of misreads or more correctly non-reads. I have the skytrak in its metal case sitting on the hitting mat. that raises the skytrak monitor about an inch (including the legs and case) from the hitting surface. is this causing my non-reads, or am i just on a newbie learning curve. to achieve level, i clearly would have to cut a hole in the 1 1/2 inch thick mat to sink the housing in.

    thought i'd ask before cutting...

Just take the legs out of the case if it's on your hitting mat. You can put the legs in upside down for minor leveling if you need to.

thanks Scoop i'll flip em over tomorrow and that will lower it a bit. Also bought some of the callaway soccer balls (truist i believe) to see if those help with the readings.

You need to have the bottom edge of the Skytrak to be at the same height as your hitting surface. Have you tried placing the Skytrak next to the mat (instead of on it) and then using the legs to raise it to the same height as the mat? That is the recommended way of doing it. You can also try removing it from the case and placing it directly on the mat to see the difference that makes. You should expect maybe 1 no-read out of every 20 swings or so. If you're getting much more than that you have something environmental going on, most likely the height issue.

        Other tips:

Make sure the logo of the ball faces the Skytrak.

For driver, tee it up a few inches behind the red dot. Putts should also go several inches behind.

For wedges and chips, just slightly forward of the dot.

I had the same issue when I first got the skytrak & case with tons of no reads. I was too obsessed with trying to ‘level’ the unit using the bubble on top of the case, and tried legs both right way and from the top

after a couple of frustrating days, I just removed the legs completely and with the case flush to the mat all my no-reads disappeared. Now I’m unlucky to get 1 in a round

via the skytrak app my unit is now reading 1-2 degrees tilt, but this is within the 5 degrees tolerance that can be autocorrected by the unit

in summary, for me getting the unit flush to the mat was WAY more important than trying to get it precisely level. Just ditch the legs!

^^ This is what I do, just case flat on the mat without the legs. It won't be too high that way and should be level enough, unless the ground under the mat is not close to level.

Yes, correct height more important than level due to auto level correction.

Ditching the legs solved 90% of my problems, no its mostly short putts that are difficult on the TGC 2019. i'm trying to "putt through the dot." and that seems to help, but i'm still around 50% or less on reading short putts. long puts are no problem. just need more time to work with the dot. I got the Callaway balls with the soccer ball print on them (can't recall the name). now i don't bother with the logo, i have no problem with it reading drivers and irons.

I place the ball probably 8-12 inches behind the dot for putts and get maybe 1 no-read per round in TGC. Try moving it back a little further and see what happens.
