  • SkyTrak alignment w/ narrow temporary setup

    Newbie here!
I ran across Ron Hornbaker's (gunghogolf.com) article about SkyTrak alignment in this forum earlier today. I had never made any of these adjustments so lots of complaints from friends playing! Issues for me (see pic) - I have a narrow setup (5' wide main mat, 1' wide ST mat) with the ST off the right edge (no left handers invited!) and ST, main & ST mat get put away after every use, screen rolls up out of way.

Using Ron's excellent article, my questions are:

#2 Zero-out the tilt & roll: I’ve got it leveled per the bubble level on the actual unit and when I connect to my SkyTrak, on screen it shows the level in the lower right corner as ‘center bubble’. There doesn't seem to be anything in the program to 'level' it just a graphic showing what tilt & roll means. Am I am missing something?

#4 Use a center-line target: I finally stumbled into how to adjust the center-line on the practice range using <Settings > Session Settings > Camera > Offset> (see photo) but sometimes the option to show the center-line is faded out and sometimes not - no idea why. After adjustment (see pic), I'll be hitting down very right side of mat / screen to keep ball/screen perpendicular. Am I better movign center-line back further left and angling ST unit even though ball / screen won't remain perpendicular?

#6 Mark ST position - I figure I'll need to use tape along front edge of ST and mark where edge of main and ST mat get put on floor unless someone has better idea.

Unrelated to the article, is it possible to move the computer back in my house (avoid wear and tear of dust/heat/cold) and just have a monitor on stand shown or does ST and E6 performance require cabled connections between monitor, projector & computer?

Any other thoughts on best practices for this type of flex setup that gets put away every use would be helpful., I will guarantee you that my next house will be designed with a conditioned space laid out for a sim room using all the info I've been looking through on this forum!

    Thanks for any input!

Aligning your SkyTrak is critical to getting accurate shot data. Here's a quick guide on the best way to do it.

    2. The internal zeroing is what matters, and if it shows center of bubble, you are good. Even if you aren't skytrak auto-corrects up to 5 degrees I believe, but good idea to be level regardless.

    4. For most people hitting at an angle is a bad idea, and will mess with your head, and probably your swing, usually leading to inadvertent draws. However, if you are extremely offset, maybe you need to angle it a bit as hitting at the very right side is not good either. A bit of each perhaps. Don't forget to also angle your mat.

Not sure what you mean, but the skytrak doesn't care how you display. You can use a cheap chromecast to connect your PC. If not using a projector, why not ditch the PC and just use a phone or tablet. Other than size of display, exactly the same thing.

Morini - Thanks for the responses; for background the main use of my setup is to play using E6. Based on that follow up below:

      4. I guess I don't understand how E6 & SkyTrak interact. I have a projector so If I move the center-line per Ron H's instructions and then load E6, what should I be aiming for on the screen - the red/white aiming stick or point where I moved new center-line? If the latter, i guess i need to figure out a way to mark screen or mat to show where people should be aiming?

Computer Setup - I am somewhat computer technically challenged, I really don't understand what hardware and connections the SkyTrak/E6 w/ projector requires to play efficiently. Is it possible to move the computer inside my house (adjacent wall to garage) and run the software from a touch screen monitor and projector linked to it via cable(s) or WiFi? If this is possible what is the smallest number of holes/cables I'd have to pull thru my wall to the office computer? Since I have a WiFi mesh that reaches the garage does that reduce what needs to be in the garage?

Forgive the novice computer questions, I am in a little over my head here. Just trying to figure out what each piece of equipment does and how it needs to be connected - I appreciate any insight you can provide.

        4. I have never used E6, but assume it is similar to TGC2019. What is read is ball movement relative to Skytrak (what is projected is irrelevant). Best is to temporarily mark your screen/net with something like tape or perhaps hang a string. Since you should have target line perpendicular to screen, this the target will be on right side of your screen obviously. I'd even lay down an alignment stick to reinforce target line in your mind. Chip balls at target and adjust skytrak until shots that hit target read straight (zero HLA). Now the skytrak is aligned. If you keep the target on the screen, and fire up E6, any shot that hits the target (regardless of projected image) will start travelling straight down the E6 aimpoint, probably from middle of the screen. This will look and feel weird. So you need to shift this aimpoint from middle of screen to the right until it matches up with your marked target line. Now you are aiming straight down the E6 aimpoint (or whatever you want to call it)

You have some options. You can pull a long hdmi cable from your computer to your projector. Up to 30 feet shouldn't be a problem. Longer than that and it might get complicated, especially if 4K. You could also simply use a cheap chromecast and stream it to your projector. That is what I do most of the time, and it works fine, with minor quality loss, minor extra delay, and a few digital artifacts from time to time.

Chromecast works for getting the Projector or TV feed to the sim room but not for remote control of the PC. For that you need something like a local laptop with a remote connection into the desktop (e.g., Google Remote Desktop) or a KVM switch. See these two threads:

I'm currently planning my simulator build in my garage however I have a gaming set up in the basement with a 5600x and RTX 3080, dual monitors. What I'm hoping to do is run the garage simulator off the computer in the basement. The only option that seems to work is basically running fiber HDMI cables (2) from the basement to

Does anyone have their PC far away from their sim room? Currently my gaming PC is in my office and the simulator I am building is located in my garage. It would be very difficult(and expensive) to hard-wire from my gaming PC to the projector or my incoming Launch Pro so a wireless solution would be preferred I also don't

Air Keyboard would work on an ipad or if in a pinch, even a phone. There is a template for TGC2019 which looks great. Not sure about E6.
