  • Protecting Skytrak

So I received my ST today and love the accuracy/ease of use. However, it makes me nervous having it so close and slightly in front. Anyone have any protection ideas until the protective case is released? I was planning on using it with our First Tee kids but I am holding off until the unit can be protected.

TWiG can you try hitting a shot with this standing just in front of the ST to see if it registers? Saves you the work of building something if you can't get a reading (hopefully you can!)

Will do lads I'll gonna build a mdf enclosure any way to protect from bounce back and general protection, the Lexan is so thin I'll be able to slide in and out

Here is an enclosure I just built. It's not going to win any awards, but it works. I'm going to cover it with turf. I did a video but it was having a hard time uploading. Lexan will work.

I left the back open but it does not seem to get hot. I'm at 8500' and it stays pretty cool.

That is made of polystyrene, will that scratch and then not be able to work? It seems some of the others are using Lexan?

plexiglass is nothing like Lexan except for you can see through it. Taht is the only quality they share.

It might work. But they cost $73.00 A piece of Lexan is $4.98 The rest was scrap wood from the garage. I feel the case needs a little weight or be attached to something like Pguttu did.

Maze, maybe a dumb question, but did you remove the protective film from both sides? I think one has the writing and the other side might have a clear film. I think i purchased the same piece from HD but ended up cutting out the window before i even tried using it in front of the lens on the skytrak.

If you did, looks like the lexan is a no-go, at least the one from HD.

                Actually it's 0.093 = 3/32"

Thanks mate, that makes sense now 2.36mm.

I'll let you know how I get on with the 1mm when I get something build and get chance to test.

Covering the whole unit with some plastic or even glass will not work. Want to know why, try to take a picture with your flash equiped photo camera thru a window at night.
The glass will reflect a significant portion of the light and therefore crete so much noise that the ball will not be visible. For the line laser to work you would need the cover to be optical glass that will not bend the laser at all in any direction.
Only way to create a cover that will stop a ball is to cut out holes in front of the lights and sensors.
I already tried that but would need to spend a bit more time to fine tune it since it did not work with the first try.
But as I wrote in an earlier post, I gave up on that since I really don't think I need it.
If I ever turn it in to a simulator and want to let the kids try, I will have to reopen that activity.

The Lexan .093, sorry TWIG for the confusion, worked fine yesterday and all the shots registered, today they would not. I'm still working on it. I hope SkyTrak gets one out soon.
