  • SkyTrak and The Golf Club (TGC) Simulation Software

Hi Seth. I'm new to this forum but have been reading as much as I can about SkyTrak on this and other forums. It seems that many experienced sim users think that The Golf Club game is the best simulator software out there right now. In fact, if I'm understanding and remembering things correctly, Bubba22 and Zmax were instrumental (please correct me if I'm wrong) in getting ProTee to integrate their sim hardware (and gc2) with The Golf Club software. So my question to you/SkyTrak is simply this: Has there been any thought to integrating SkyTrak with The Golf Club? And if so, what are the odds that this might happen? And if so, when?

  • Sorry if this has been discussed before, but does TGC have a range? If so what does it look like? Does it show the last shot launch characteristics continually like ST & E6 ?

    • There are over 50+ ranges available. You can also use every course available as a range. Tons of stats are being recorded with nice graphs. Optionally all your shots can be recorded to view online and can be exported to Excel. Example:

Special thanks to rdh for creating a great series of ranges.

      • Sometimes less is more. In the 'Shot Analysis' screengrab, the 'Swing Stats' box displays eight fields of data of which only two are measured by SkyTrak, namely Launch Angle and Ball Speed. Of the six data boxes on the left, only three are applicable to SkyTrak. With this in mind what are ProTee's plans to streamline the experience for SkyTrak users by way of uncluttering the data displays. Permanently showing a smash factor of 1.47 is not only meaningless but misleading. Presumably with additional development time this should be an easy fix? Thanks in advance.

            That's pretty funny Protee.

HarryG, the interface shows every possible measured stat. If you want all of them to be measured, you'll need to buy a device that measures all of them. If you don't have that device, then it'll be calculated. The limitations of the device arent the software developers problem really. You'll have to take your stats with a grain of salt and move on.

        • Come on man, that's just a band-aid!

Don't worry you can switch off club data.

        • Question....With the following rig will I be able to play TGC at 4k with decent settings?

          i7 4790
          8GB DDR3 1600
          GTX970 4GB
          512 EVO SSD

          • I'd go 16 gb at 2400+, and a gtx980ti or so.

Memory isn't a problem, that gtx980ti though is double the price of the 970 *ouch*
Will the 970 not run 4k at all?

Google it - nobody can realistically run 4K.

          • Close to my rig. Settings high, detail 3 and trees 1/3. I think I've replied to that question 75 times in this thread alone.

It looks amazing. The more trees you have the more bogged down it gets. I tried it at full everything and the difference isn't huge. I've yet to figure out what "detail" is but I run at detail 3 because it runs smooth. You can buy a Titan X for 2 grand but I don't see significant improvement so what's the point. My projector is 1080 and my screen is 15 feet wide.

          • I have tested this game at UHD-1 resolution of 3820 x 2160 which is more common than 4K (4096 X 2160) but is what people are talking about when they mention 4K.

I tested it on a powerful gaming PC which is overclocked and has a 2500K clocked to 4 Ghz, the memory is 2133 Mhz (8 Gig DDR3) and the graphics card comes with a factory overclock of around 20% over the standard GTX 980 Ti cards. It is the Lightning variant by MSI.

Launching the game on High settings through Steam and putting all the in game graphics setting to minimum I was able to get 30 fps max on a Links course with no trees and minimal foliage. This was barely playable due to the drop in frame rate below 30 fps at times.

So you can forget playing this game at '4K' until the next generation of graphics cards are released in the spring of 2016 and even then you'll have to buy a pricey one.

            • It's insane that a $1k card is not able to play this game at 4k. When you look at other high end graphics intensive games TGC pales in comparison. Talk about poor optimization.

PS: I tried to search before asking but you can not search for 2 letter words such as 4k, it returns zero results.

Hmmm.... actually the thought that you have to play this sim at 4K is pretty insane. Nothing plays at 4K that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

            • I am happy to do some tests and report back frames per second using various settings if you'd like confirmation.

I forked out for a UHD TV and am hoping that I can find some good links courses to play at a borderline acceptable frame rate. It does look awesome though.

Harry, what happens if you go to the GNCD and create a single hole with virtually no trees or other design elements? If you play that one hole at UHD does it work better? My guess is the issue is the complexity of the courses and perhaps the game is rendering the whole course (and all the details) even though 90% of it isn't on the screen.

That is a great idea! You could be on to something as I've heard from multiple sources that is exactly what is going on in TGC. It renders the entire course even though you play one hole at a time. Maybe they should add golf buggy races to the game so we can make use of this fact. I'll check it out over the weekend and report back. I'd like to post some full size UHD screen shots as well. Anyone recommend a decent site for uploading to? I hope that Admin won't have a problem with me posting external links for these images.

Hmm that's not really a range. You only see one shot for example, perhaps even that shot doesn't keep a tracer on, you'd want the ability to see multiple shot tracers along with their shot profile. The ball stats info only flashes up briefly or your forced into clicking ok between every shot.
Its missing basic range functionality imho.
E6 has the best closely followed by STs own.

Agree 1000%. Are shot tracers and multiple shot data possible on TGC in range function?

            • TGC does not allow multiple shot tracers like Protee or E6. It's primarily a video game where that function wouldn't necessary. IMHO these lacking features do not outweigh the positive features thus, to me, I accept it. If multiple shot tracers and session stats were more important E6 or Protee or FSX would be better options. I personally weighed all the options and an more happy with what I have than what I don't.

              • TGC is not really designed as practice tool. What's useful is the data recorded in SkyGolf 360. A bunch of lines is not.
We will not implement multi shot tracers, because it just does not make any sense. Doe you think the lines shown will improve your game?

Almost every product ships with some sort of range - free of charge -.
We will leave the analysis stuff up to the hardware manufacturer so we can concentrate on great game play.

Yes I do, it's an immediate representation of your dispersion. Different colour tracers also help when choosing between clubs/shafts. Anyhow I'm not going to make a fuss, just wanted to understand what was provided.
