  • Right / left handed play

How easy is it to alternate between left and right handed play. Could you play a round alternating between left and right handed players. Do you need to re calibrate when switching

I agree Hoosier. Taping the spot where the unit should sit, for lefty and righty is the best approach. It's a bit of a drag but doable. Better option than the PositionTrak in my opinion.

Your right luv2golf. This issue with lefty/righties with a floor based launch unit like a GC2 or Skytrak has been around forever. We have discussed this at length with th GC2. Moving it is certainly not convenient. It's a pain. But as you mentioned taping where it should sit and moving it is the best option. It allows both hitters to be centered to the screen, whil the positiontrack or any swivel unit will place the hitters slightly offset.

Ok, so I thought I'd mess around and try something out. I set the unit up as if a righty was going to play - so yes, I was swinging over the unit.

It worked GREAT!!! When I went to hit a cut, it cut. Didn't do the opposite and draw, every shot I went to play it was true. I had a couple issues trying to hit flop shots and the unit not registering.

Well for me, this is good news. So when I have my friends over, we don't have to move the ST. I'm ok with standing over it, that doesn't bug me. The only downfall is taking a practice swing, I have to go behind the ST to make my swing. I'm a 7 cap getting lower and my coach has ingrained a pre-shot routine, so that's the only issue I have right now, I can't do it with this setup. But honestly, for the occasional round every week or 2, I can live with this as an alternative to moving the skytrak for every shot.

I'm curious, SkyTrak_Seth have you tested this in your offices? I'd like to know your input on this and if this is truly a solution or did I just fluke out tonight?

That's great news Luv2golf I was hoping that would be possible , I'll only be playing with a lefty every now and again but would certainly make it much less hassle .

Yes, I agree, once we have full sim play out, I'll have my buddies over and give it a whirl to see how a full round plays. In the meantime I'm going to practice some more have the ST setup right handed, but swinging left over top of it. For those who want to try too, please post results.

Surely there must be someone out there that will come up with something that makes left/right handed play less of a pain? If the lasers pointed from opposite sides for lefts/rights it wouldn't be so bad as to position the unit in the middle of two hitting mats. Minor details.

They haven't come out with a great solution for the GC2 so not sure something will happen for Skytrak. Gc2 solution was to buy 2 GCT, which is twice the cos and not a great solution. I tried setting I up for lefty and swing as a righty standing over it and didn't like it personally. Either doing that or simply marking the area and moving back and forth is the best option fo now.

Why didn't you like it? Can you explain...........Were you getting mis reads? Were the shots not on the correct line? Push or pulls? If you can elaborate as to why that would be great.

I didn't mind it. I hit about 30 balls and it seemed fine. There were no mis reads, the lines were correct, distances were acceptable.

My issue with buying 2 skytraks, is you then aren't hitting the middle of the screen and need at least a 12' wide screen, just doesn't seem feasible. I'm hoping Seth will chime in here next as to what testing they've done regarding how the Skytrak reads shots when swinging left handed and standing over the skytrak set up as right handed golfer.

It just felt very uncomfortable swinging with the Skytrak below me. One bad swing and there goes the unit. I will be moving it back and forth personally but those comfortable with this should try it.

What's your cap? I didn't see any issues at all (I'm a 7 and have a descent swing). Actually if this doesn't affect the numbers, it's the way I'll play with my friends. I have no problem swinging over it. I could see Charles Barkley having issues - especially 1 handed swings. LOL!!

Cap has nothing to do with it. I play to a 3 handicap. It's all about ones comfort. Some may find it ok and others may not. For me, it's not happening.

I think cap does have something to do with it. I think it's more likely to shank a ball and hit a skytrak then it would be to step on it hitting over top of the unit.

Either way, it could be a moot point if the orientation of the swing vs. the ball flight impacts how the ST takes it's readings. Really eager to here what SkyTrak_Seth might have to say regarding any testing, ect.

I'm curious also, what are you using to level your unit? Have you tried playing a round with a lefty to see how easy/difficult it is? I can see it being a royal pain as my mat isn't level (on slab) and each time I'd have to move the ST I'd have to re-level every time.....you could be looking at as much as 70 times per round, moving, re-leveling, ect.

I'm going to play some WGT tonight and watch the cowboys hopefully spank the giants. See how after a couple hours everything is preforming.

Again, I agree, it's all a person's personal preference, for the couple of times I've stood over it, no issues so far.

Non issue for me luv. I have a ProTee that allows for lefty/righties.
