  • SkyTrak and WGT

    Hi all,

I have seen many people asking about skytrak and WTG and it seems like that the people who are beta testing TGC and E6 have never
played or tested WTG. It seems like nobody in this forum has tested it. There is no videos ... nothing. But from what I keep hearing
skytrak is coming out with WTG first...? Is there anybody who has some more detailed info or talked to somebody who tested it ?
I'm only interested cause I'm pretty sure it will be the cheapest of all versions and to test it out it would be that big of an investment.
I own a skytrak since about 5 month and can't wait for course play. The problem is I'm on the road a lot so I will not be able to play
on a regular basis. That's why TGC ,even that it seems to be the best choice, doesn't make much sense if it's going to be a monthly
prescription. Really hope to get some infos or even videos about skytrak with WTG.

I'm pretty sure, it would make sense. If it's not there now, I'm sure they will add it in the future.

    • Has anyone else had the machine pickup what essentially would be a putt? Today, i tried to move the ball into position on the mat with the club and it rolled forward like 5" or so and i look up and it registered as a hit. Not great on the challenge when you end up over 300' from the hole plus the penalty. Too bad there wasn't a mulligan, i was doing halfway decent up to that point.

Yeah that happened to me once. I chuckled.

    • I have been out of the loop for a while - not much use for simulation or Skytrak during the season. As the Michigan weather gets crappy, I checked-in to see what was going on - saw the par 3 challenge and have used it. Very nice. I also see pricing on skytrakgolf.com for full simulation. Without reading 14 pages worth, does anyone know if they are planning on making the simulation multi-user (Can I play a round with some friends)? I would be interested in buying the subscription if it was multi; not sure I would spend the dough if not.

@ 1:37 it looks like he's using a foam ball/almost golf ball of some sort - What do you guys think? It would be nice if on occasion you could use foam balls (for less skilled players for example)

      • They should cut the yearly subscription into half. I wont be playing simulator golf in April-November and I really don't want to pay for it when I'm not. I hope they come out with lower end packages for people who enjoy playing real golf outside.

That's completely arbitrary. How do you know the original price wasn't $200?

      • The price doesn't bother me if the simulator does what I want to to do. I spend a lot more than the yearly subscription price at indoor simulators every winter. If I can play with friends and get a few bucks from them toward the cost then I am good.

        • Agree they should cut price in half as most golfers would rather play golf on course when weather is good outside - simulators are only alternative to "practice" at home when unable to play outside.

And yes need to be multi-user (i.e., not multi-user playing w others online but multi-user meaning can set up w up to 4 players on your iPad and invite friends over to play a round or play a round w other family members at home) - or else totally not interesting.

Again, totally arbitrary. We can jack the price to $200 and give you 50% off if it helps

Other sim options will have multiplayer. But WGT actually expressed an interest in this.

        • Are you guys referring to $100 US per year fee? Really?????? That's a round of golf at some of the tracks my buddies are members at. Shaking my head here, I guess everyone has their own value they put on items.

Personally, $100 a year ($200/year with GIP) is dirt cheap. Very happy with the pricing structure so far. Now if you talk about dumping a G note on TGC, then I agree 150%.

Just my early thoughts on this. Happy to hear other opinions as I think we're all in the same boat on trying to pick the best sim option.

I agree with you that dumping a G on TGC seems pricey, but WGT doesn't necessarily seem dirt cheap to me either. Not sure what the general life expectancy of a Skytrak is, but I'm hoping to use my Skytrak for 4-8 years. That's $400-800 for WGT over the life of product. I just got my Skytrak and am just starting to explore sim options, but it seems like TCG has some benefits over WGT (e.g., number of courses, course designer, practice options, rendered environment vs. static images, etc.) Assuming it's true that TGC is actually a more valuable product (I'm not saying it is), then paying $400-800 for the inferior WGT doesn't feel like a no-brainer.

Plus, the nice thing about buying sw up front (versus subscribing to a service) is that there's less downside if the service/company goes away. Let's say I've paid for WGT for five years ($500) and then WGT goes under or discontinues the Skytrak service for whatever reason. That $500 is likely sunk and I have no residual benefit. At least with TCG, I'd think you could still play some offline courses if ProTee went under.

That said, the nice thing about the subscription service is I can stop at anytime and switch to something better. I guess for me, the bottom line is the prices for the two options don't seem that far apart over the life of product (and both seem pricey). It will probably come down to which product is actually better for my needs.

Edited to remove my quotation marks around dirt cheap. They were showing up as weird text strings...

neboruchi, I agree with you 100%. Personally, I want to see all the software out before I commit anything over $100.00.

WGT at $100/year (with zero commitment, seems like a no brainer). Who knows how much Perfect Golf will be? Who knows what E6 cloud pricing will be?

We have many unanswered questions here. I'm just sharing my thoughts on the matter. I personally, will look to buy a sim software rather than paying a monthly or yearly fee. I shop at Costco for a reason. I don't mind paying XX dollars upfront to benefit from the future value of the investment.

Just gotta wait to see what the other players come to market with.

        • I tried out E6 today and will stick with WGT because I think its way better, I don't need trees swaying, I need accuracy and the graphics WGT provides are perfect for me. The Price for WGT is 200 on the skytrak site, currently unavailable. I still think thats alot to fork over to play 4 months a year on. Unless TGC blows my mind Im perfectly happy with WGT full version.

          • Do you think there are accuracy issues with E6 compared to WGT?

I think E6 is pretty accurate distance wise. I played 2 rounds of 18 last night and all my distances were accurate. Word on the street is that E6 should be out in November.

          • I think WGT is more accurate than E6, distances can be longer in E6. Also I've never liked the rough in E6, you can normally just hit a big club straight through a tree and then other times it can take you 6 to get out - you just cant tell.

            • I find I'm farther in E6 vs WGT or Skytrak App. I think the algorythm that E6 uses is better though. I'd like to use the range more, but it keeps crashing my brand new WIN 10 pc.

I bought this PC for E6/WGT/TGC/PG, but it's going back. Gonna try my laptop tomorrow. Very dissapointed in the fact the it's crashing the following:

              Intel Ci7-4790 / 2TB HDD / 12GB RAM / Windows 10 - GTX 745 graphics card with 4GB of discrete video memory.

Anyone have any thoughts way this PC is sucking wind?

Thanks JohnMeyer, I agree, after doing some research the fact that it's 4GB dedicated means jack. I can't justify the $$ for a GTX970 so I have a GTX960 on it's way.

I also found that there was a setting where my machine wasn't using the full setting on the video card. I've changed that and hit a few balls last night and it was much better. Going to try and play a round today to see how it preforms.

            • Wgt is so much better than e6. The ease of using an iPad and the great graphics are winning me. In real life u don't follow the ball anyways. Wgt is perfect and suits my needs. E6 is not good enough and laggy. Hope beta for tgc is released soon.

              • Its a dilemma for me, to test TGC assuming they release a beta i need to buy a new pc (around £1200) as it wont run on my existing laptop, thats quite a lot for a test and E6 is real slow on my current laptop.
Whereas WGT works perfectly and the image fits my screen exactly.
So do i live with what i have or spend the money for the new computer? This computer would never be used for anything else. I think if i buy the computer i'll be forcing myself into buying TGC or E6 as its a complete waste otherwise. Perhaps i can find a short term pc rental.

Have you got Perfect Golf, game is/was available on steam for £15 I think, I've got it and it runs on my terrible laptop, albeit on the lowest settings possible, so if your laptop is half decent should run on that, and from what I gather Sim product should be similar if not exactly the same software in terms of what it takes to run. Its an early access at mo so buggy etc but at least may give you an alternative to the big outlay depending on if/when PG option becomes available

              • Tricky dilemma. Not sure if this helps but perhaps you should just see how you go with WGT when it's released. If it is satisfying your needs then job done. Once you are able to play full holes and rounds it will become so much more enjoyable. Will it have all the features you require? Such as offline play or playing friends locally. How will the putting be, etc, etc. WGT does look great and once you get used to feel of the game it's quite brilliant. I know as I played it a lot before I got into playing real golf and got really good at it.

I've also played TGC a fair bit on PC and PS4 and, for me, it's way out there compared to everything else I've seen with the exception of Pefect Golf. These two sims outshine E6 and its dated graphics by a decade. TGC is a poorly optimised game and doesn't support dual graphics cards setups and the developers have no intention of addressing this which is an outrage. It will bring the most powerful PC setups to its knees and won't run smoothly or look great unless you have invested in the right PC gear. £1200 on a custom PC is a good budget.

I think the dark horse in this race may turn out to be Perfect Golf. TGC gets a lot of attention but once PG reveals itself and we compare the two features sets, suddenly a lot of people may be thinking about jumping ship.

If you can get to Scotland, you can demo TGC at my house when it comes out.

Exciting times! The longer we wait the more I wonder if the delays are because the sims will release together.

I agree davray666, it's all about making sure they get their $$$.

TGC and PG don't even have their SDK's yet. Or if they do now, they are still a ways away.

PG will be out on the GC2 very, very soon. I have signed up for tournament play on PG when skytrak finally releases it.

In the mean time, when WGT comes out, I'll pay the $100/year (at least for the first year till PG gets full release).

                  Happy golfing!!!
