  • SkyTrak and WGT

    Hi all,

I have seen many people asking about skytrak and WTG and it seems like that the people who are beta testing TGC and E6 have never
played or tested WTG. It seems like nobody in this forum has tested it. There is no videos ... nothing. But from what I keep hearing
skytrak is coming out with WTG first...? Is there anybody who has some more detailed info or talked to somebody who tested it ?
I'm only interested cause I'm pretty sure it will be the cheapest of all versions and to test it out it would be that big of an investment.
I own a skytrak since about 5 month and can't wait for course play. The problem is I'm on the road a lot so I will not be able to play
on a regular basis. That's why TGC ,even that it seems to be the best choice, doesn't make much sense if it's going to be a monthly
prescription. Really hope to get some infos or even videos about skytrak with WTG.

From my own perspective I'm not overly fussed that their closing the doors. I've played all 3 Wentworth courses and their OK - not amazing. I think they largely get tournaments and a high profile status because of the proximity to London and being surrounded by mansions which are now mostly foreign owned. It is unfair that others will no longer get the chance to play though. I also think the European tour should have serious think about whether they want their HQ attached to such an eliteist venue. Surrey still has plenty of nice courses that the public can play if they have deep pockets and the UK is still litered with accessible top quality courses. My favourite is Trump Scotland near Aberdeen its incredible twice as good as anything on the Wentworth estate.
Scotland will be 2017 for me. Going to Ireland in May 2016. Here's the lineup:
    • Old Course at Ballybunion – legendary and historic, ranked No. 8 by Golfweek in Great Britain & Ireland, with Tom Watson as a past Club Captain.
    • Old Course at Lahinch – Old Tom Morris and Alister MacKenzie amongst the designers, ranked No. 11 by Golfweek.
    • Waterville Golf Links – a top-5 course in Ireland, first opened in 1889 and renovated in 1973, with Payne Stewart as a past Club Captain.
    • Tralee Golf Club – Arnold Palmer’s first European design, a links course at its finest.
    • Trump International Golf Links at Doonbeg – designed by Greg Norman, a marvelous links layout on the Atlantic Ocean.
    • Old Head Golf Links – one of the most spectacular and recognized links settings in Ireland.

Then we are taking an extra few days and going to NIR to play Royal County, Royal Portrush and Portmarnock.

Any suggestions you might have re: caddies, ect.

I went to southern Ireland for a golf trip in 2008. Played five courses and all are on your list (didn't play Trump Doonbeg). Of the four main Links style courses my favorite was Lahinch and then Waterville. Ironically I didn't think too highly of Ballybunion however I'll admit that our caddie wasn't great and that really impacted the experience.

Old Head in my mind was a completely different experience than the other four. I absolutely loved it and the views and landscape were incredible however I didn't feel it was a traditional Links type course. That being said it was my favorite course on the trip. The view from the tee on one of the holes (I think it was 12) is unreal. I still think of Old Head as perhaps my favorite golf round played of all time topping all my rounds at Bethpage Black (grew up near there), Whistling Straits and Pinehurst #2.

You will have a blast on your trip. I did my trip with my dad and hopefully if my son (currently four) gets into golf I will certainly return with him. Sorry to go so far off topic but couldn't help myself.

ks-man, thanks for your input, these forums go off topic all the time, I was asking for input and that's what you gave us. My daughter is 3 and half and I'm doing these trips now so that maybe in 15 years, I can do them again with her. I know exactly what you mean!!!!

  • SkyTrak_Seth just curious if there is an expiration to the coupon code? I didn't notice anything on the e-mail, but wanted to make sure that I don't need to use it within a certain amount of days or anything like that. Thanks.

I don't believe there is. They are one-time use though.

  • What types of things can you do with the WGT/Skytrak for practice? Can you select a hole on one of the courses and hit multiple approach shots from different distances? In my golf room I can only hit irons, so at this point I cant take advantage of the full simulation. IMO i still think it would be worth the purchase if I could use it for practicing my irons rather that the standard range simulation/GIP with the Skytrak APP.

    • Right now it is just stroke play. I believe they are working on an option to be able to drop the ball anywhere for practice.

      • I never got a coupon code and bought mine in November 2014 with the GIP. Who do I need to contact??

WATCH THE 3rd SHOT. THANK you SKYTRAK AND WGT.

My beefs Drives still off, but I crushed a 3 wood off the deck for 255. Multiplayer would be awesome and hope they add a practice mode and mulligans. Unless you cant do that in Challenges which makes sense.

Nice. I don't mind the angles they use at all. Looks great. Once they get the driver thing figured out, seems like that is well worth the $100.

      • The lack of multiplayer option is a really big bummer. I'd love to start playing simulation but I'm leaving towards waiting for another option. However I just received my discount coupon code today and want to do a little more investigation just to see if I can justify spending the money! I have a few questions for WGT subscribers.

        1) When I play WGT on my iPad air 2without skytrak ( just the normal game) it takes quite a while to load between holes. Is this the case with skytrak also?

        2) Are you able to select tees, greens speeds, wind, etc?

        3) mentioned that the view is not always from behind. Others have mentioned that the view is not always from behind so how do you choose your aiming point in that situation?

It would be awesome if somebody could post a video of an actual game to see what it looks like!

        • Just buy it if you got the code man. Trust I thought the same thing earlier but I got the code and pulled the trigger. It's worth $100.00. Don't even wait. I posted a few videos on my YouTube r Cushman

              1. No.

              2. Yes in practice mode. Not Ina ranked game.

              3. It defaults to aiming at the flag every shot. Just move the target as needed. I don't see what all the fuss is about really.

I've got used to just looking at the hazards and aiming at my screen for a fade or draw.
It's not ideal on short chips but what can you do.
One hopes that the volume of licensors prompts them to work on better sim features (And Pebble!)

I agree wilson, just mentioned below that if you change your view it's easier to line up for chips and shots.

Tough to say if this is a finished product or not. I wouldn't expect any improvements or added features till next year (Summer, my guess).

            • Played St. Andrews earlier today and got stuck in a pot bunker. Had to take the 10 shot maximum because it wouldn't let me hit far enough side ways and definetely not backwards. I haven't looked into it enough to see if there is an unplayable lie option. I gave it my best lob shot, but just wouldn't come out. Still awesome to play though!

I had the same thing happen in a bunker, I was able after 2 attempts to hit out to hit is sideways.

There is no option in 'ranked mode' to take a drop, mulligan or move on to the next hole. Another bug in the software.

To bad there wasn't more testing. LOL!!!!

            • Had a "funny" moment today. Had a 20 foot putt at kiawah just miss and finish about an inch behind the hole. Instead of the usual "gimme" option it said something like "attempting to auto-putt" then wacked it 20 feet the other way. Of course I miss the next for a 4 putt. Glitchy much??? Cost me a round in the 70s argh...

Thanks guys. I am forwarding to WGT right now...

            • Tekbud, I think we need to start a thread titled 'WGT GOOFS'.

Finished my first couple of rounds today and yep, there are many goofs. Putting, putting and putting. I had countless 'unable to read shot' or worst didn't even detect a shot.

Second, not a fan of the 45 degree offset, but what I did to remedy that was to switch views and look at it from the back of the hole. This then gave me a target at the flag or where I wanted my shot to either cut or draw (mostly draw).

This is my biggest piss off...........on the WGT for Skytrak web page, it says ' Tee it up with WGT Full Course play on 10 of the world's most famous courses

And you look at the ten courses. Well I was all amped uo to play Bandon Dunes.............BIG FAIL. It's a par 3 mash up of trail, dunes, pacific, old mac and preserve. I've been to Bandon twice and was so stoked to play my second favourite course ever (whistiling still the best) and what did I get.......... a whack of cheesy par 3's.

              Why do this?

My other gripe, which I new before was there isn't full course play of Pebble Beach. Why put on Pebble Beach and make the course par 3's? I don't get it.

AND OF COURSE.........I can't have my buddies over to play.

At this point I'm not really sure if I like it or not. I am very disappointed after all this build up.

This is very much spot on. I too was disappointed with the other courses not being fully available. Putting is ridiculously challenging IMO and it wouldn't let me putt from off the fringe.

I want a ball tracer view that is like the TGC.

Ive had several people ask to come play, but I had to tell them it was only single player. I really like this overall, but I will be keeping an eye out on the other options when they are available, especially TGC.

Csarran, I agree 100%. I was thinking WGT and PG. Well now I am more and more interested in seeing what TGC looks like.

Also, I tried multiple times to putt off of the green.........won't read. More testing needed?
            Working...
