    Skytrak is a joke

If you’re looking for just the driving range, then get a skytrak. But since they are now 2900, I would NOT ever spend that on one. By the Bushnell. I have had a skytrak now for 3 years. Miss reads, are so common, that I can’t play a full round, because I get exhausted. Putting is a joke. And good luck talking to anyone there. The last fix on my misreads from tech support at Skytrak were this. “Place a Dryer sheet between your Skytrak, and the case”. What a joke. Going to be selling this very cheap here real soon.

At $2900 you must be talking about the Skytrak+. I have the plus and find it to be very accurate. My wife and I play courses on GSPRO 3-4 times a week and now with putting working it is very realistic. the driving range and all the training aids on the Skytrak app are great. We get maybe 2 miss reads in a round of golf.

Are you using the OpenSkyPlus connector? What method do you use to connect SkyTrak+ to PC when using GSPro?

I have GC Quad. Trying to help friend who bought a ST+. 4 hours and no luck today, but think we are getting smarter.

Do the misreads occur with all clubs or only certain ones? Is the SkyTrak unit at the same level as the hitting surface?

I would love to test the Skytrak plus and hoping to get a unit. No opinion on my part until I test it.

I’ve had great luck with my Skytrak from 2017. Almost never get misreads. So many success stories out there where people play their Skytrak without issue. I guess there are always exceptions to the rule. Would be very frustrating to have a unit not working correctly.

I would add that I use mine exclusively outside, but never with the sun on the camera side of the unit. If there is a lot of sun behind the unit, I put something between the sun and the unit so it doesn’t get heated up from sunshine. I have the FMJ protective case which sits on the ground with the bottom of the skytrak unit aligned wit the top of my mat. This setup works almost flawlessly for me. My swing speeds, distances, and shot shape on the Skytrak are consistent with the results I see at a “Full Swing” simulator that I have regularly used over the winter.

I have the original Skytrak which I bought 2 years ago for around $2000 and I would not recommend it. I get lots of misreads mostly with short irons. Swing speed is the main cause(I’m not swinging my wedge 110mph but that’s what it reads sometimes). I only use iPad, no computer so can only play WGT and e6 connect which both suck so that doesn’t help either. Now I need to invest in a new laptop to play the better games. But it’s not much fun playing the courses when I get multiple misreads every round.

Lighting plays a big part with SkyTrak. It's almost too sensitive. The unit will pick up reflections from almost anything and either give you misreads or not pick up the shot. I had a bright plasma TV sitting behind the unit (which I use as my screen) and it caused all kinds of grief with the SkyTrak. I turned the brightness and contrast all the way down and SkyTrak started functioning properly. Had to change my ceiling lighting as well to minimize reflections. On average, I still get about 5-7 misreads out of a 100 shots, which I can live with, although it seems to happen only on really well struck shots. The hitting mat can also cause misreads, depending on how reflective it is.

lol! That’s so absolutely true. When you hit one that you feel was the most perfect ball and you are anxious to see how it flies, THAT’s the one that ends up not reading! ;-)

My misreads occur with different clubs but mostly irons. And yes my Skytrak is at the same level as my hitting surface.

Could you please post a picture of your current setup? Are you using the protective case? Where is the ball positioned with your short irons?

Well Jordan? You asked a question and I answered it. Now what are you going to say about your product? I’m not going to say it flat out sucks, but when you pay $2000 for something it should work better than this.

In post 8.1, Jordan responded, asking you to post a picture of your setup. He also asked if you are using a protective case and where you place the ball for short irons. Maybe he is waiting for you to respond. He can’t come up with a solution without knowing all the facts. He seems to be in fact collecting stage right now.

I guess Jordan only has questions and no answers for us. Nice way to represent your product.

Assuming you are talking about Skytrak OG: If set-up properly, you should get 2-3% no-reads, as long as you don't hit over 50 degrees VLA. If it is way worse than that, ensure that unit is the same height as hitting surface, connect in direct mode, unplug the USB, and hit 6,7, or 8 iron (mid trajectory). If you get misreads here, there is likely an issue with your particular unit, but to make sure, I'd take it out of the case and hit a few more. Oh, and stick to white premium balls. If it still no-reads, I think it is time to test the laser curtain by swinging as a lefty.

Is garage lighting enough for Skytrack OG?

The Skytrak OG doesn't need any light to detect strikes, it works on an infrared basis.

Worst investment I ever made. $2200 for a piece of shit. Friends of mine have launch monitors that cost them $600-$800 and have no issues. I’m 69 years old and normally hit my driver about 220 with a carry average around 190-195. I just hit 10 drivers all pretty good and my average carry read 155 yards. Gets worse the more I use it.

might check that it's level and aligned right. Mine is spot on and most of the reviewers say it's dead on.

Occasionally with my Golftec lessons I end up in a bay with the new skytrak that was forced on them. It’s a terrible launch monitor. My instructor hates it too. Too many misreads. I never get that at home with my Protee VX.
