SkyTrak+ Faulty Battery Issue: Extravagant Repair Costs for a Known Defect?

I am writing this post to share a highly frustrating experience with my SkyTrak+ and to see if others have faced the same pattern of battery failure and corporate response. I purchased my SkyTrak+ directly from the official SkyTrak store in December 2024. By May 2026, less than a year and a half into ownership, the unit began failing. Despite being continuously plugged into a high-output power block and cord while playing, the battery completely fails to hold a charge.
As soon as the battery level drops below 80%—which happens rapidly after just 60 to 80 shots—the unit completely powers down and stops reading shots entirely. It has rendered a premium piece of launch monitor technology completely unusable.
After contacting SkyTrak support, a technician advised me to send the unit in for a battery replacement. However, I was quoted an astronomical $300 to $570 repair fee, which is on top of a $150 diagnostic fee.
Paying up to $720 total to fix a basic battery failure on a unit that is barely 18 months old is egregious. What makes this worse is that a quick search across simulator forums and user reviews reveals that this exact battery drain and shutdown issue is a known, widespread defect with the SkyTrak+ hardware.
Charging customers premium repair rates to fix a known, systemic component failure feels incredibly unfair and deceptive. Has anyone else successfully had SkyTrak escalate and cover this issue under an out-of-warranty courtesy repair, or am I stuck with a very expensive paperweight unless I pay half the cost of a new unit?

Strange, I have not read many complaints about this. I did a quick AI search and it looks like there are not a lot of issues that AI can find. I could not get a screen shot to attach for some reason. Can you post some links where other sites are discussing this. As Skytrak user myself this would be good info to have.

I am currently unable to connect with gspro anymore. Has something changed recently that is causing this? I know SkyTrak is not supported but very frustrating.

I did force it to do the beta download but have gotten it to work in the past.

According to the Discord channel rela which I use to connect doesn't work yet. There was a firmware update the programmer is working on it. BTW if you don't use rela you should, it's the best you don't even have to bring up the Skytrak app it connects directly .

Hello, I apologize for the delayed response. It is absolutely a known problem; i just did my own google AI search of "Skytrak battery issues forum discussions and reviews" and numerous posts pulled up (I will add screenshots for reference). Moreover, when I spoke to the Skytrak technician, he stated he was very familiar with the symptoms and issues causing them "as it is a very common issue." I purchased the Uneekor Eye Mini and it is head and shoulders better than the $2k+ paperweight I'm stuck with now (will include a pic of that as well). Cheers and better luck with your device.

If its just the battery, and you have already opened the unit, why don't you just order a new battery online off ebay (probably 30 or 40 dollars at most) and change it yourself.

Looks like an easy fix, unplug the old and plug in the new battery, specifications should be printed on the battery.

Am I missing something?

And if you get it done, you will be the first person to replace a skytrak plus battery.

That was the plan. I did purchase a battery that I thought would work for it, per the description on ebay, but unfortunately it doesn't. I also found a local electronics repair shop that would replace the battery for $30 but they too confirmed the battery would not work. Long story short, the replacement battery is not available to purchase anywhere and Skytrak will not sell it either (i will attach a screenshot of rhe convo with the Skytrak agent). I also inquired as to them verifying if the battery from ebay would work, no cigar. So I'm at a dead end. Pay up to $570 to replace or count my losses..

I checked to see if there were any updates on information on the battery used on the newer Skytrak units, still no luck! AVOID SkyTrak at All cost!!

Does your skytrak work with a power bank/brick?

If it doesn't then the battery probably isn't the problem.

Any battery with the same voltage supply should work as far as i know. The capacity of the battery doesn't have to be the exact same.

If you could take a pic of the front and back of the battery(large enough to read the printed details on the battery) and post it I'm sure one of us online will be able to spot a replacement for you.

Thanks for your prompt response. That's a great suggestion! I'll need to get those pics when I get home from work (12-hr shift) and school.

I have tried all of the troubleshooting as suggested by SkyTrak on their website and the tech, and other forums/discussion boards. So the issue with the system not reading swings and resetting begin when the battery level reaches below 80%, which is typically around 70 swings, it then takes about 4-6 hours to fully recharge to 100%. I keep the system plugged in directly to the wall outlet (no extesion cord) with a high-output/wattage charger and heavy-duty cable during play.

The tech I spoke with explained something along the lines of "Voltage Sag Under Load:" it was my understanding that as lithium batteries age or develop a bad cell, their internal resistance increases. When the SkyTrak+ attempts to capture a shot, the sudden surge in power causes the voltage of a degraded battery to plummet instantly. Even if the sensor reads 80% capacity remaining, the actual voltage drops below the critical safety cutoff threshold, forcing the unit to shut down to protect its internal hardware. And as mentioned previously, he also explained it was a very known issue with the newer models.

All batteries (lead acid, lithium etc.), suffer an output voltage drop under load. As their storage capacity degrades with age, charge discharge cycles etc. their internal resistance increases resulting in an ever decreasing output voltage under current load..

Aside from all that if you live near one of the battery supply stores like Battery Plus, take your battery to them and they will test it under load and either provide a replacement or rebuild your current battery with new lithium cells or sell you the cells if you prefer DIU. Usually this costs a fraction of what the OEM's charge.

People do this all the time with Foresight LM batteries. Last time I did it the cost was about $100 OEM, $23 to rebuild about $10 for DUI parts. This is not rocket science..
