  • Distance is inaccurate with the woods

Just wanted to see if anybody else went to the range and actually tested it with the woods and how accurate it was. And what results they came up with. Well this weekend I did and I can confirm that the woods are definitely short on Skytrak.

Here's my setup on how I did it. Was on the 18th tee box and was a slow day so I tested all the woods. I had a friend stand out by the landing zone and would hit the balls and he would stand where the ball landed. Then I would lazer it from tee box to where he was standing and then lazer again on where it finished. I wrote down all the numbers from the driver , 3wood and 5 wood. And recorded what was shown on Skytrak. I can confirm its at least 20 plus yards out. From what I can tell , for example. If Skytrak would say it landed at 240 yards and rolled 20 yards for a total of 260. But The lazer would say 265 on where it landed and would roll out 20 yards to end up being 285 yards. I did this on all the woods and it seems where the end result of where the ball rolled out on Skytrak would be the distance it would land shot by the lazer on the course So in the end result I sure hope that SkyTrak_Seth reads this and can figure out real quick on a solution to this problem or I'm just going to lose interest and hopefully be able to return it for something more reliable when playing simulator.

So Skytrak I hope you get this rectified ASAP or you will lose a customer.

Skytrak has published numbers comparing with Trackman (6 iron and driver tested). It helps answer that question.

If Trackman is the gold standard then it is instructive to load the driver data into OF and compare where the ball would land based on the Trackman versus ST numbers.

Point taken after reviewing this data and TM's published accuracy. All in all, I paid less than 8% of the retail price of the TM-4 and only 25% of the cost of a GC2.
For that cost, I have some really good ball data when all things are considered. It's easy for me to be hyper-critical, but it's also really hard to complain when I look at the big picture and the relatively small amount of cash I have tied up in the ST unit. For my use, budget, and skill level- I've really got no complaints. Bring on the simulation!!

So I'm kind of curious. All the guys and girls, that are having no issues with the distances and are fully impressed with there Skytrak, just wondering on a few things

          1) what's your handicapp
          2) how fast can you swing the club
          3) what is the carry distance showing on Skytrak compared to golf course or other simulators.

The reason why I'm asking is because I haven't seen a video that goes father then 240 carry and over 110mph.

Now the other question is. Can any body show me a video with the above criteria. Over 240 and over 110mph club head speed or over 160mph ball speed and sea level set to 2000 or below.

            Are you still having issues?

If the numbers shown in the video are coming straight off the ST then hes hitting bombs with no issues it would seem

Ignore the fact hes talking up how much better the m1 is, only posting as hes hitting both drivers at the sort of speeds you mentioned

The last numbers he was reading off the ipad I'm guessing from skytrak. To bad we couldn't see that.

I play off a +0.3 handicap right now. Only tournament rounds are used for my handicap. Typical swing speed is 107-109 but get around 112-113 when I try to get a little more out of it. I usually carry it around 255-265 on the course in St. Louis so elevation is around 600' and typical launch for me is 155 ball speed, 12* launch and 2750-3000 spin with about 15-20 yard fade. I have a video of a shot last night that I went at a little harder and got low 160's ball speed but not sure how to upload video from my iphone onto this site.

Had to create a YouTube channel. Elevation 600' and temp 80* with 70% humidity setting. This is what I use as my own default settings.

My co worker carries at 292-300 and total distance is at 315-322. I will take a video next time he does it.

Most of us don't have issues. Glad to see some videos showing that skytrak doesn't bottom out at 240. Willymakit , get your unit looked at if you think your having issues.

                    Thanks for the video Keith.

Can you make another video from start to finish. And show your setting for sea level.

                    Thanks

I did see that video but not fully convinced what his settings were With sea level. I did see a quick glance on the video that it had 300 on it.

                      Wily,

Reference the first three shots in post #48. Here are the screenshots for each of those shots. I don't have video or other proof that I haven't jacked the settings, other than to tell you that I left them at the default 500 ft, 70 deg, 50% humidity (I think that's the default...) You'll just have to take my word for it. If you think your unit is messed up, send it back, man, or talk to Seth.

It's already in route back to where I bought it.

                        Thanks there bud.

Like luv2golf says. I need a blood sample also. Lol

Now can I see video with sea level setting. Lol.

I do believe I have a faulty unit. I'm just trying to confirm what I know doesn't match up to something that does work. Seeing is believing.

We've believed you've had a faulty unit since the initial post and testing.

Why would you wait so long to send it in for repair/new unit?
